Hey quick question any ideas on adding like the. Drawer system ikea has that has the see through top? 👀👀👀 I love your build by the way I’m planning on doing this
I have been banging my head against the wall trying to figure how to find an affordable closet organization solution. This is BRILLIANT! Thank you for sharing! Off to order materials!
My husband and I did the same thing a few months ago. Putting the bookcases together was easy, however we choose to raise them to allow floor space to store extra shoes and miscellaneous items. We also added bars for hanging clothes in between the book cases using rods from lowes and extra shelves using Rubbermaid shelves from home depot. Our closet is much more functional and we saved hundreds. One tip if you are worried about it tipping you can add shelf brackets to the corners. That's what we did. It only adds a few dollars.
I just started my diy closet using billy bookcases from ikea and other bookcases from target. The bookcases are very stable and strong. I used the same bookcases in my home office have dragged them from one room to another and I've had them for over 7 years.
Super impressed!! I’m considering doing this for our new walk in closet because dropping a thousand dollars is not what I want to do. I actually love how it isn’t built into the wall so it’s not damaging the wall at all!
I bought two of these target bookcases and used it to store my handbags, shoes and over the knee boots since my closet is so small. Love having everything on display.
Love it! Fiance and I live in a NYC apartment, and we're not planning on staying in our place long enough to justify getting a pax. If we stay for a year or two and only drop $150, way more worth it for me.
Girl I dont know were you got this idea ftom, but thank god you did! I have a small extra room, the pax system was way to big. This is small and compact, but efficient enough to hold all of your clothes!!! I have now subscribed to your channel! Thank you!
WOW!!! You did an awesome job, everything looks so great. I know you said you made a couple of mistakes, but honestly it's not noticeable unless you point it out. Kudos to you!!!
literally just found you due to this video and instantly subscribed. i can only see a peak into you closet and personality from this, but i'm hooked. from one handy chicka to the next, they make electric screw drivers...they are essentially small like a regular screwdriver, but you don't have to twist your hand...only press a button. and way less powerful than a drill. i love mine!! it was only like $10-15 USD. Hopefully it will help when you take these down to move once your lease in the apartment is up. ps. im using your ideas to create my own custom walk-in closet from an extra bedroom, and will be tagging you!! im so excited! thank you again! xoxo
Hello there. Great job!!! Now, the reason you strip some screws is because you drilled in too fast. You have an impact drill which does just that, it impacts the screw. If you use a regular drill with an adjustable Chuck it will slow the drilling process. Drill a pilot hole and then run the screws slower. Also, you can use cups for rods to hang your clothes. Also You might want to find a way to anchor them to your wall, better safe than sorry. Anywho, you did a great job!
Yes! I wanted to see the complete and staged result, overall good job tho. Totally feel your pain with the IKEA products, I've assembled many a unit and its not easy.
I’m heading out to get my stuff now. I’m in apartment and have a studio type set up. I want to build my closet around my bed area. 😊 can’t wait to finally start this project
I plan on using a professional cabinet maker to makeover my master closet. In the long run, it'll be worth it using quality material that can stand the test of time.
Im scared but this has given me the courage to build my own closet ! I was thinking of spending 800$ for one but I’m so broke and want something more affordable! Wish me luck I will attempt doing this soon!
Hello, that was great. Whenever I’m putting anything together like that I also use wood glue or some type of strong bunding. There are also prackets you can get from Lowe’s or Home depot that you can put on the back to help hold them together. Think I’m going to use this in my guest room closet.
GENIUS! Wish I'd seen this, before I installed my ELFA system. Their Design program wanted to waste an entire wall, over being short a few inches (6' x 5' x 6'). I overlapped the shelves on top, rather than waste $$$ & space, (a friend gave me most of the system. Spent $180, incl cart). On one side, have floor to ceiling rails, to install two 12" metal shelves above each other, just above the floor. That will keep purses and shoes in line!
You are great you made me feel like I could do my closet as well thank you so much I think I am going to try and add a chest of drawers in somewhere what is the order number for this units
You did a great job! And all by yourself! I love that you show how challenging these assemblies can be, and the tips you give to help make it easier! New subscriber...
It’s not tall enough 🤔. Can you put another one on top? A part of why the IKEA ones are so expensive is because it uses vertical space in your room so that you could jam more stuff into them. Also it has the opportunity to move things around overtime as your wardrobe changes. I still like it though. I was trying see if I could do it your way but I just need mine to use all of my vertical height so I can put more stuff in.
You did so good! I’m sharing this with my mom she wants to make her whole spare bedroom a walk-in closet so this would look great! Also the word you were looking for at the end was to drill a “pilot hole”
You did such a good job!! I wanted to do the Pax in my bedroom and put sliding doors to close the tv up inside of it but now I’m thinking this is the way to go! Thank you sis!!
This is the video I needed. My kids room has NO CLOSET!!! And those clothing racks suck! Definitely going to target for these. Thank you for sharing. Great idea
I put one of these book shelves in my linen closet years ago and it’s holding up wellI. Just be careful of how much weight you put on them.... thx for sharing
This is a great idea!! I was looking for a PAX alternative b/c PAX items are out of stock anywhere. We may borrow your idea. However, do you think this could also add any drawers? This is the thing I am hesitant right now.
Watching this and hearing how much trouble you went through is pretty funny. I remember doing stuff like this for my sister and she would tell me why is it taking so long LMAO
Love this! My walk in closet is super long and I’d need these on both sides his n hers $150 would be nice but I guess it’d still be cheaper than the ikea system.
Can any one help On any ideas on adding like the. Drawer system ikea has that has the see through top? 👀👀👀 I love your build by the way I’m planning on doing this
I was thinking the same you certainly brought fourth the vision I had in mind thanks for sharing and linking items used very clever and creative always thinking of ways to do things and can you share the height width of shelves used thanks love the video
I have been going out of my mind and body trying to find storage ideas for my tiny NYC apt bedroom. So grateful for this, thank you!!!!!! Question; how many sets of the bookshelf did you purchase?
Wow great idea. Only thing I woulda done different is take the baseboard out so it can be more flush against the wall. But honestly I love the bookshelf idea. Wood is crazy expensive. You just saved me a lotta money! Thank you!
If you use an electric drill to assemble these bookcases, then make sure you put the tension low (I usually set it around 5) so it won't strip your screw heads.
I absolutely love this idea! I wanted the same ikea pax closet but did not want to spend the money 💰! I even looked up other brands and still was too much.... but this I can do! Thank you for this alternative 👍🏾
I have this bookshelf and got one for my gma. This is such a great idea. I’ve been wanting a pax closet , but I like to save my money. I’m definitely gonna try this out!
Omg !! Thank you so so much! After seeing you do this - just absolutely amazing! And I live alone… so I know I can do it too!!! Yay!! I wanna start right now but the store is closed !
Smart! I started to plan out a pax wardrobe system but that price. I ended up getting the audral wardrobe system, it was really affordable and I was able to put it together by myself.

@tiarra L Do you have pictures
@@asthefanturns I have pictures I have to figure out how to upload them.
@Tiarra L did you film your diy project?
Did u use the same shelves (11.5 depth?)
I just started my diy closet using billy bookcases from ikea and other bookcases from target. The bookcases are very stable and strong. I used the same bookcases in my home office have dragged them from one room to another and I've had them for over 7 years.
I thought about using billy bookcases too! Which depth did u use? Are u happy with ur decision?
Super impressed!! I’m considering doing this for our new walk in closet because dropping a thousand dollars is not what I want to do. I actually love how it isn’t built into the wall so it’s not damaging the wall at all!
Yes! I was able to move the full unit to my new apartment also!
I love how you said “to hold all my fashions” that’s so cute
I bought two of these target bookcases and used it to store my handbags, shoes and over the knee boots since my closet is so small. Love having everything on display.
Yes!! ✨
This is clever. I always think that they’re just book shelves but I didn’t think to buy rods. Please show us how you put in the drawers.
Thank you!!
Omg gosh you’re amazing.. I literally died when I seen the drill..Just wow..keep up the good work..I’m not crying!!

My daughters and I are attempting this by ourselves. I hope it turns out great so I can share the results with you. Thank you for filming this video.
This was such a good idea and it came out so good! We love a DIY queen ✨
Thanks love!! 😘😘🙏🏾
This looks so good girl! Pax is always sold out at IKEA so this is another great option!
YES! I have one for one side of my closet but cant finish my walk-in so ill be adding this to my room! I'm so happy I found this
Love it, we actually need a small wardrobe for a newborn and the IKEA Pax is so expensive this dupe is awesome thanks for sharing 😊
Do you have to secure the book cases to the wall? How are they secured to the wall? Or do they stand on their own
You can do both!
@@Amorantasia1 so if I don’t secure them to the wall, they won’t fall down once I load them with clothes?

Thank you!

You really did a great job ! You could use a dresser and then put the bookcase on top of it. But this saves a lot of money.
so underrated, im glad im here before this blew up
Thank you. Thank you. Thank youuuuuuuuu!!! I have the pax in my ikea cart ($1000). I will definitely do this instead.
You are genuis! On my way to Target before these sell out
Yes the white ones were hard to find!
Maybe you could get billy bookcase from ikea?

Dropping a comment unlike usual because you did so well!!!! Love this
You could put trim pieces on the front, and next to wall to hide the seems. It will look like a built-in unit. 🥰
Smart I’m gonna try this project and add the trim
I have these bookshelves in my office. I found it’s easier to assemble them on the ground then stand them up against the wall.
Agreed!

It's so much fun watching someone who is not mechanically inclined, struggle to build something. 😆 Also, kind of painful. 😩
Omg, you are so smaaaart! Thank you so much for this idea! 😭💗
💪🏾 thank you!
Another option besides drilling holes is using a tension rod and putting liquid nails on each end that should hold some decient weight.
If you use an electric drill to assemble these bookcases, then make sure you put the tension low (I usually set it around 5) so it won't strip your screw heads.
I had to like just because you saved 99% with the DIY
Ayeee a beautiful crafty project to do for myself and cost efficient, yess inspiring 🙌🏾💖
You are saving my life right now! ❤️
Great idea I used this to organize all my shirts and stuff
And they’re heavy in rhe box 📦 they come in just fyi

I want to do this! I think I may put some pretty contact paper/wall paper on the back panel.
That sounds beautiful!
Thank you for this i will try it as soon as I move I'm excited for the finish project be already exhausted to put it together 😫
😂💪🏾
I don’t think a Billy bookcase is deep enough for a standard hangar without moving the rod toward the front.
I really wanna do something like this to my closet. I don’t think the space is as big but I can just measure beforehand. Thank you for the idea!
Yes please measure your space first! That saved me a lot of grief lol!

The shelves don’t seem like they had enough depth for the width of clothes. Any videos showing this with clothes and stuff on them?
