No frills review and I agree that this is a very worthwhile scanner especially given the price of about £55 in the UK. I have one of these and I can't fault it. There seems to have been a movement away from flatbed scanners in recent years. There seem to be more document feeder and two-in-on scanner printers available these days. Fine if that's what you need, but if you occasionally need to scan a book page (while it's still in the book) then this scanner is ideal.
Probably give this one a try as I had bad experience with handheld scanner. At $55 I can't go wrong with it. Gonna use it for scan my film photo albums and lots of old pamphlets and documents.
Hello, Thank you very much for clarifying some things about the scanner, I have a question if you would be so kind and have knowledge about it... I use this tool to scan drawings and I would like to know if the scanner cannot distinguish or does not have the ability to scan neon colors well. Every time I scan with the photo utility, the neon phosphorescent colors don't show up well in the final image and I don't know if it's because the scanner hardware doesn't have those properties or I have somehow misconfigured that color part.
I am interested in purchasing this scanner primarily for scanning many older photos from pre computer days. I am not clear as to why this scanner is better than using the scan feature on my all in one printer. Please explain what is the difference and what are the advantages of using a scanner. I want to eventually place the scanned photos into a digital photo frame.
Just a followup question... After installing the driver described in this video, I noticed there was an "extra" software installed altogether: Canon Inkjet Printer/Scanner/Fax Extended Survey Program...is this essential to keep or is it okay to uninstall it??

Usually the scan resolution is not a feature of the software or the operating system. It is a feature of the hardware. I have 2 W10 + 2 W11 +2 New MacBook pro. My Lide 300 arrived, and I went ahead with the installation. Yes, I was aware about the lock switch in the bottom from my Lide 210. Everything went well until I got the message CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH SCANNER FOR THESE REASONS: Scanner is turned off. USB cable is disconnected. Please check and try again. Scanner driver will be closed. Code: 2.156.33 I tried on all my computers (6) and received the same answer. I concluded I received a faulty scanner. I returned it and received another. Went through and received the same result. I can see the driver has been installed and the software. When I run the installation, it will make a stop on number 4 of 7 in the top screen and then I get the message. Any ideas? I am using the original cable. I have owned several scanners and never had any problems to get them installed. Would appreciate any help. Regards Sven
It could be a faulty usb cable too. I didin´t got any malfunction message, but the scanner didin´t worked. I changed the usb port and it worked just fine.
This is good if you’re an artist who just needs the flatbed… but they really have to make a bigger one like this eventually 💀 Cuz having only the flatbed means it’s less costly

I sympathise with you Sven. I had endless similar problems with the Lide 120 - same and similar error essages, and tried all the suggested fixes, and more. Some folks even dismantle the scanner and poke about with soldering irons and dusting brushes, claiming it solves the errors, but I don't think anybody should have to do that on a new piece of kit. There is clearly a softrware problem which Canon seem unable, or unwilling, to rectify. I eventually got the 120 to work on a laptop with Windows 7 Professional, and it is a good scanner when it does work. Canon need to address the software glitches, which spoil an otherwise good scanner. And pay for a hair transplant to replace all the hair I've pulled out trying to make their product work!

I have a LIDE 20 which I bought from eBay ages ago. It is just like this: simple and efficient. It also looks the same. One doesn't need any more.

For most day to day scanning the Lide 300 is sufficient
