It stings my heart to know that the real Anastasia, who was so innocent, goofy and full of life, was murdered. She was Alexei's favorite sister because she would occasionally write jokes and parodies to make him laugh, which helped ease his suffering. She also enjoyed teasing her sisters and the palace staff. And she absolutely hated having servants dress her up, but she hated royal gatherings even more because they bored her.
To convey an emotion in such an effective way with just 82 words? Truly mastery. The music and visuals are just perfect too. This is one of my all time favorite songs. Thanks for making a video about it!
I love the breakdown of the key, time signature, and chord progressions of the music as well as the analysis of the lyrics. The part that ties it all together is Liz Callaway's performance. Her voice is so soft in the beginning and then, with the introduction of the choir, becomes powerful as she takes in the scene and dances with the ghosts of her past. This, along with the instrumentation, takes us on a journey to the past (pun intended) where Anya was literally a princess in a fairy tale. I think the haunting aspect of the lyrics and instrumentation *fits* because of how everything Anya had was taken away from her through violence and treachery. And now? She's left with faded memories and no idea of who she is and it completes her trance. As abruptly as it began, it fades just as quickly. Anyway, thank you for this video, love everything about this channel.
I listen to Once upon a December so often! Its lyrics are so beautiful with the haunting melody! It is so true that this song is well remembered compared to Journey to the Past!
I really love lullaby songs like this and "All is Found." There's just something so emotional and exciting about them.
