  • So you want to grow your own mangos? Great! The first step is to decide which mango variety you want. And sometimes it's not as simple as which variety you like best!
    In this video, Chris talks about what you should consider when choosing what mango variety to grow in your yard. This includes what flavors and textures of mangos you like, how much space you have and environmental conditions in your area.
    Stay tuned for Step 2- Selecting a Mango Tree.

    Does a Julie also have shorter roots? I want to plant a tree close to septic drain field, it’s approximately 20 feet away, but don’t want a tree with large roots. I’d love your opinion on this, thank you .

      I've heard that Chaunsa will tolerate colder temperatures than most mango varieties.

      Put Keitt on the south side of your house, block the north cold winds. You'll probably be OK.

    Chris, Wonderful informative video. We are in SW Florida & we have 3 Mango Trees, A Carrie, Artlufo & not sure of the other one, I ate it. And decided I wanted that tree, it is Bright Hot Pink the Skin possibly a Van Dyke.. Can you tell me Chris, can you tell what Mango Variety the tree would be based on the leaves??? I found 2 small Mango Trees growing on the side of the road where they would have been cut down, about 6 inches tall. I have them planted but would love to know what kind they are. I love to eat my fruit & grow it & give the plants away when they are about 1-2 ft. tall. Thank you for your help... Maria....

      There are so many varieties of mangos in Florida that it's next to impossible to know what variety a seedling is. In many instances it's a cross.
      You can always grow them until they fruit. If you don't like the fruit, you could cut them back and graft a known variety onto them.

    Hey Chris, great video! In your last video, I saw a poster on your wall on fruit ripening calendar. Could I find that on your website and if you have a calendar for the season for each mango variety you grow that would help with choosing a variety for me in southern CA.

    • @TrulyTropical
      @TrulyTropical  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The calendar on the wall is a general guideline. Each season seems to be a little different. Unfortunately the seasons for varieties of mangos are even harder to predict. Our recent winters have been unusual, and have affected different varieties differently. In some cases late varieties fruit early, and vice versa. If we have some spare time before next mango season, we will try to create one

      Truly Tropical thank you! I understand in my climate the calendar could be completely different but I was just looking for general seasons for each fruit and each variety of mango.

      Sounds like you might have a greenhouse? That would help your success.
