Gravitite ore can be found about 5 blocks or more below the surface of any moderately large chunk of floating island in The Aether. For best results, mine as close to the bottom as you feel you can, without dying, as that usually ends with you losing your stuff.
Just a suggestion, bring a cauldron, place it inside the fire demon's lair, fill it up with water, then fight the boss so that you can just jump in every time you burn.

I would've tried the regular "prevent dying from fire in the nether" techniques, like putting water in cauldrons or using fire res potions. or just surrounding this fire guy with obsidian or something and then hitting him from a small hole in that cage
