Just slow deliberate movements,,I had partial knee surgery two years ago,, but at 66 yrs old,,, working 7pm to 3am, sleep and day schedule off,,, just like that I can use what you recommend,,from being inactive as I am ,,
When I was 60 I could easily touch the floor and do full splits. Then I had a spinal fusion... 4 years down the line I'm really learning to move and rebuild badly atrophied muscles. I am really grateful for you and your channel. Big thanks for your time and support 🙏
Thank you for showing these exercises. I am 75 years old woman and have knee problem and unable to squat. I hv seen yr squating videos but still unable to squat. Thank you so much.
I’m still flexible enough and sturdy enough to drop down the floor without much risks but it’s nice to know I can get these tactics for when my body needs some help in any way. Thanks again for the way you educate us, I especially love that you also give information on what to look out for or what could happen and that it’s okay if you can’t reach as far as the example. The detailed explanation on what can happen and what you might feel and what to do or not do is priceless
I got to the floor, now what do I do? ... Seriously, your content is some of the best advice and knowledge I have run into on YT. I am 70 and have always gravitated to movement over rest. Still I was an over doer and ended up with a hip replacement last year (14 months ago). I am trying to get back to being more flexible and strong. I workout everyday at different things (rowing, walking, stretching, passive hanging, qigong, weights, and sometimes an elliptical machine. I have used some of your techniques on stretches that have helped. My goal is to get into an deep squat (an 'Asian squat). My friend looked at me and said, 'You have the rest of your life to try.' I almost fell over laughing. He is 75 and said, ' like this?' and proceeded to get down into an Asian squat. Well, he was a gymnast, so... but I am very tight, always have been and it is getting worse since the surgery. I think qigong has really helped but I guess some people are just tight and will never be able to fold in half. But I won't give up. I have the rest of my life.
Oh my god you're so right about rest. I had a bike accident a few years ago, landed on my elbow, and tore the hell out of my right rotator cuff. I couldn't even raise my arm level to the ground at first. Thank all the gods in the book, I had been through a much milder tear previously and knew some exercises, and I gently but very persistently started rehabbing that joint as soon as the swelling went down. Slow exercises, emphasizing full range of motion, no weight, then small weights, and any time it actually hurt I backed off. But I kept moving it and testing the limit. I was dumbbell pressing 50 a side in a couple months and I'm well above that now. It will never be 100% but it's at the point where I rarely notice it. I shudder to think if I'd just laid off everything.
Thanks for this video. I’m 58 and I can do all of this except sit gracefully from that split squat. You do it so fast and easily. Getting to the floor on the knees or Asian squat is good. Sitting gracefully with hands is where I struggle.
You are one of the best because you’re teaching the easiest how to do, I wish You can teach me everything for my healing, I had rotator cuff tear, frozen shoulder, cervical neck stenosis, neck subluxation, of course I’ll pay you
I get down on the ground with my grand children in large driveways using chalk where there’s nothing to hang onto when we are out on hikes to look at neat rock formations or possibly bugs or plants. It isn’t uncommon at all. luckily I have a fair amount of flexibility can do it. I just can’t do it without my hands so I appreciate your videos.
Agreed..getting down on the floor and moving around is great for your body especially if you are feeling weak or recovering from injuries and rolling around on the floor is a big stress reliever..work through the pain to get better and stronger 💪
I learned I need muscle nothing else. I am following your advice. One question, I have sciatica in my left leg and thigh , is there an exercise to help that? Thank you
Thank you for this valuable information .It is very motivating , inspiring and informative.I have the problem of pain behind the knees while sitting down or climbing stairs . Hope this wall exercise will be helpful. Good to have found your video. Thanks a lot.🙏👌
Lovely demonstrations, thank you. Did you consider a split squat with a vertical back? Then lower your hands to reach the floor by your knees to 'walk' forward to a crawl shape. If you wish to lie down, come to the floor gradually, and look after your back better. So lower to one elbow, move over to one hip - leaving legs bent, then move to your shoulder. All that remains to lie on your back, semi-supine, is to roll over as one. Perhaps place a few books under the head to support the neck. I like your style and the way you move.
Thank you so much. It's been so many years since I slept on a bed without a frame, so it's very hard for me to go down on this bed on the floor. I am overweight and not that fit and flexible. After watching your video, which I regret not watching it sooner, I am now more confident on how to go about lowering myself on the bed safely. I just subscribed to get healthier and stronger.🥰
So excited! Looking for quads and got bonus knees basic! Thank you. My PT is emphasizing sitting leg extension, which is too hard for left leg. I've several spasms which left quads and hammies very weak. I can do both simple wall exercises, will let her know. I want to be able to get down and up using a rollator. Love your work!
My only issue is that I can't kneel. Well I *can* but it hurts like ***. Feels like I have no "padding" there. So I try to go from being supported by my feet to being supported by my rear with no knees in between. I'm working through all the knee-strengthening exercises you've shown and hopefully will be able to improve from there, but in the mean time... is there a way to get down (and back up) without looking like the least graceful person in the history of gracelessness?
I’m in exactly the same situation, plus I also have terribly weak thighs due to hypothyroidism. However, there is a lady here on You Tube who has an excellent video of getting up and down without any aids. Sadly, I don’t think I saved her video, but I’ll check to see if I have, and if so, I’ll most certainly get back to you. If I can’t find it I’ll come and say so, so we can look for the video ourselves. Fingers crossed!!
Hello and Thanks for a great video. I’ll watch the getting up video next. I do have the need to get down on the ground without any support. I am an avocational photographer and frequently i need to “get low” to get a shot from a low angle. I’ll try your suggestions and really look forward to the video on getting up!
How about using spiral movements towards or up from the floor? Also if you can bend your knees, how about a lifting action with the hand(s) under a chair or under a table, lip of furniture? This connects all the muscles of the arms into the back and supports the legs better by encouraging the knees to move forwards. Whereas the push down does not do any of these functions.
How did you get better? Did you just start stretching on your own or did you finally find a good doctor that gave you sane advice? Thank you for your videos 🙂
Short answer: doctors have been nothing but unhelpful => frustration => taking full responsibility for my own body. This video details my experience: th-cam.com/video/eECqE3wkBvU/w-d-xo.html This article also talks about it: www.uprighthealth.com/blog/chronic-joint-pain-atm-theory
My friend and I are going to a concert in the lawn. She has had one knee replaced and needs the other one done. How can she get down to the ground without getting on her knees? Thanks!
Boy I wish you could give me advice for my specific situation . I am getting to where I don’t trust my doctors . I had hip arthroscopic surgery in 2019 ended up with full hip replacement same hip in 2020 … still have pain in my glue medius and minimus from tears and piriformis pain . Now in 2022 I have had to have meniscusectomy for a medial tear that was causing swelling, locking and instability ( this is the knee opposite of my hip replacement Now I had a hip injection in the greater trochanter area hoping to relieve pain from bursitis and glute tears. It may have helped some . Maybe more than I realize bc now I can’t even lay on my side on the hip at all, constant throbbing pain . If I see the doctor again they’ll suggest another injection. I think getting steroid and cortisone injections can weaken the tissue and cartilage if so why would I want to do this . I feel like my body is so out of whack. I am 54 and used to be a gym rat now I haven’t worked out in 3 years and have gained weight . I need genuine help🤯
Years ago I had a frozen left shoulder surgery and no longer have not able to lift it straight up. I can go as far as I can without pain. What can I do as far excersie I can do. Now I find myself sitting so very much and my right side lower back is very painful. What will stop the strain I had a stroke thank God physical all my body is excellent except for balance can you help . all are these problems I believe can be helped do you agree? I am 81 years old
What if my knee crackles when I bend it doing squats on a wall. It doesn’t walking but bending it it does. Doesn’t sound normal. How about getting up off the floor?
I do the 4th one ( much easier now after losing a lot of weight)....wish I could just drop down and get back up again with no hands though. I just can't .... oh to be younger.....I don't even know at what age the dropping down thing became impossible. I've always been able to touch my toes, even before my weight loss when I had a huge belly in the way, which seems odd. Maybe i just have long arms 🤔
If you have arthritis in the hands and can't put weight on your hands , you can put your forearms on a stool. It's possible if you fall in the street and there is nothing to lean on.
Hi Jeff, it’s definitely worth trying to move and maintain muscle for as long as you can! I’m actually working on a frozen shoulder program for the shoulder fix. It should be ready in the next month or so. In the meantime, do whatever exercises you can that you feel you can tolerate without causing sharp pains! Gradual progress is the best kind of progress. Definitely a good idea to see if you can find a good exercise professional locally to help you find and adjust/adapt exercises for you and your wife!
This guy seems like a good guy but this video is going to get somebody hurt, way too many things can go wrong. Heck a person would be better off simply to sit on the couch and then work themselves down from there
@@Uprighthealth I showed an 83 year old how to get down and up safely using the chair method. He had never been shown how to do this and it made him so happy. He managed to get up really easily and quickly. All the more remarkable as he was wheelchair bound a year ago. Thank you.

Not to get caught In RIIPS,and How to get down to the floor safely. This is great!.✌️😎

Very entertaining. What I would do is sit on that couch and then fall on the floor.
Good strategy too!
I COULD NEVER put my knees on a hard service. i lower my hips with arms.

This guy seems like a good guy but this video is going to get somebody hurt, way too many things can go wrong. Heck a person would be better off simply to sit on the couch and then work themselves down from there
You never answered how to get down to the floor if you have knees that hurt badly. Every method you show you put all your weight on your knee/knees.
Always some limber young person in these videos. Get some 60 70 80 year olds with knee, ankle, feet problems doing the video.
