Hi Bill I just want everyone to know that I was born and raised in Springfield MA in 1943! in the 50s when i was a teenager, it was a beautiful city of homes, businesses and activities and very safe! There is also a lot of history in Springfield! I lived on the south end on Gardner Street! we had corner stores, fruit stands andno bustling highways, just regular streets and roads! It was awesome back in those days! today Springfield is building up, but it is not anything like it used to be! it has turned into a violent city with too many trying to beat the system! we still have our hard working people trying to live normal lives! I moved back here in 2006 after being a military wife! I will always love Springfield and am proud to say I am from here!

These videos are great. I remember so much-like Classical HS, Van Horn Park and the hill, playing hockey, Forbes& Wallace, Steigers, keeping a trunk full of sand and a shovel in the Impala for snowstorms, etc.

I grew up in that neighborhood on Avon Place, right next to the cemetery. The school in your video, as I remember, started out as INA Insurance. A lot of nice old houses were torn down in the 1960s so it could be built. The hospice across from South Church replaced the Colony Club which burned down in 1966 (I watched it go). It had been a mansion built by Daniel Wesson of Smith and Wesson, sold after his death. Six different presidents belonged to the Colony Club. If I remember: Kennedy, Taft, Hoover, both Roosevelts and one other. Thanks for the memories. I enjoyed your tour of Springfield Cemetery also... in Chicago now and writing about it.

Hi from Las Vegas, where I do stand-up comedy in casino shows! I lived in The Maples Apt. Complex in 1978! Use to love walking downtown from there and hit the bars. Springfield was jumping back then! In 1978 I was performing at Riverside Park in a Trotter Bros. show. The Maples also housed actors appearing at a nearby dinner-theatre (Coachlight?) I have been back to visit Springfield probably twenty times since I lived there, Charming city, too bad the economy there has been in decline.

Bill, you are a great inspiration and are appreciated for capturing footage of how Spfld should really be. Some people don't realize how remarkable it is living here because they do nothing to make it a nice place to live, except the idea of trashing the streets, gun shootings other than domestic violence and slumming drugs into the neighborhoods. I lived here in Spfld almost all my life, born and raised except a few places outside of Spfld and once in another state, and think it would be truly nice if residents of Spfld could make this city a more safer and nice place to live if they could be apart in taking back Spfld's streets away from the drugs, violence, prostitution and other means that made Spfld look like a bad reputation to live. We need this city to be safe for our children and their children, despite Spfld police needs to do a much greater job on their end. I was living in Chicopee, but i just moved back to Spfld and i am actually now living on Maple St in one of the buildings you videod :)

Hey W Dusty, you seem to be a cool guy! Believe it or not, i wanted to tour Springfield, the downtown area in may of 2007! I practically lived downtown springfield in the 1960's (with my mother) and the 1970's (when i went to college at AIC) I plan on doing this tour this may 2011. Have you been in Springfield Cemetery?
Sounds funny but its a magic place. All of Springfield was magic, and i have watched it go up and down over the years. Thank you for your videos.

PS! I forgot about how awesome downtown was with the many shops, 5 and 10 cent stores and our many movie theaters throughout the city

I live in Easthampton which is the neighboring city of Northampton and I wish Downtown Springfield would be vibrant and artsy just like Northampton, Easthampton, and Greenfield.

I've worked security around there. You should go film there at night sometime ... it'd be a little more interesting

This is city has more beautiful spots and people that some people talk about when we talk about Springfield we have to compare it to other cities its size not comparing it with towns that have about 15,000 people Springfield is a city over 153,000 people not counting the college students
