another interesting dynamic is that all players were randomly assigned to regions so most people didn't know each other, and they had to agree on leaders without much information! shoutout to your professor, love sociology :)
in multiple diffeent iterations of this experiment ive seen the jungle organise the fastest. I think this happens because, like the plains, jungle has abundant resources (fishing, wood, etc), but also has setbacks that make it impossible to progress withour order: if jungle has order, they not only survive, but thrive, but if they don't, they die very quickly
Yea like a episode with dinasours in prehistoric times maybe a world inspired by the romans or a map that looks like the times of the french Revolution
Every week a civilization would gain a member. Amount of current members = x. Amount of new members gained equal Y. Y= x/4 so if they have 20 members the would gain 5 the next week. This making staying alive all the more important since the civilization with the highest number of players has an advantage. However it also leads to problems when it comes to food since more players = more mouths to feed. More mouths to feed = less food. There for winter will hit then the hardest if they are unprepared or they are rapidly increasing in numbers without the food also rapidly increasing
Over population is now a problem. Make more resources harder to find. Like ore was pretty much equally available to all civilizations. Like this one has tons of diamonds however there is little to no iron to mine the diamonds. A place with tons of iron but with a lack of food. Making trade all the more important. So it makes them choose their allies and enemies wisely. Also maybe a consolation prise for allies of the best nation so it doesn't become every civilization for themselves. But more of a world war two where teams of civilizations work together to kill the other teams. Also it would be interesting to also see civilizations merge with each other to create empires through negotiation instead of war. Also a greater distance from the other civilizations and larger area to build. And more civilizations. Also maybe some command blocks or mods to add certain functions. Also if they created religions maybe certain bonuses from said religion. And religions can spread. Like kiwi did. And the god of that region can accept it and make a Pantheon or use devine punishment.
@@slevinchannel7589 anything more than 100 players would probably be laggy as hell and would require lots of planning and scripting to make every player play like there was actual risk involved. something like that would probably have to be staged by a huge server like hypixel, and why would they do that? there would also probably have to be some sort of reward that's worth it to players so they're motivated, which will cost a lot of money if it's large scale. so with virtually no benefit to the party that hosts such an event, I don't see it happening anytime soon.
At 20:01, you can see the Siberian king quickly saving one of his men from Clown's ambush, and then the rest of the team immediately realizing what happened and jumping to his support. Pretty excellent coordination, on the other hand, you can clearly hear Clown's team in vc still yelling at everyone to get down, if they all attacked at once they probably would've won the battle due to the element of surprise. Just goes to show how well collaboration and teamwork can really affect how everything plays out.
i love how this is almost a metaphor for life. the ones who had it the easiest ended up getting wiped out at the first sign of hardship, meanwhile the ones who had to struggle since the very start became the strongest around
That's the actual reason why civilisation developed first around in Mesopotamia: in other places there were animals to hunt, so no need to come up with agriculture. In other places there was a lot of wood, so no need to invent bricks as an alternative building material.
The war part was a masterpiece, the jungle civilians being ganged up on and struggling through bushes and trees, the plains leading a charge on flat ground and having stability, building war posts, so much beauty in war
The Battle for Ice Rush was clearly a highlight! Seeing the glorious plains army thrashed by the spikes army was golden, underdogs in thought but they had the most books.
I had made a prediction about who’s right after you revealed the biomes, my guess was siberia. What made me think that? The regions with the harshest climate strive to be the best And also plains where unfamiliar with the land
the tale of the vikings is a great one: great warriors trapped in an ice-cold hell underestimated by their enemies due to their lack of available recourses, but proving them wrong with their superior battle tactics and the element of suprise out of the depths of their freezing home, and rising to the top as the great conquerers, both by land and by sea. sounds familiar...
The Siberians in this world are merely imperfect vessels of the true might of the Russians, yet their might is still great compared to the Viet-Qing who died nearly instantly after going outside their wall, the (French?) are the only near equals.
Fun fact: about 9 years ago, a server that had a similar concept called “The Kingdom” started. Every country has their own TH-camr with a full storyline and stuff like that. At some point they even began having RAP BATTLES with each other. It was by far the most populair concept in the Dutch Minecraft community, and I miss it so much. For many people it was their childhood. To this day there are still copies of this server called “Fake Kingdom servers” where you can start your own country, but unfortunately the community has become quite toxic. If any of you want to know more, just ask!
@@silverdays2909 I would love to! There were a bunch of different Kingdoms with different themes. Of course, there were antagonists with their own story. But the big bad for most of the story was the dark kingdom of The Empire, ruled by RAGTHANATOS. They were among the most populair characters of the series and their iconic phrase “IRPAS INTRAPA” is famous in what is left of the community. As for a story… hmm, yes, I suppose I can start with one of the oldest in the Kingdom lore: RAGTHANATOS his story. In the plains of Bovisti, the continent above Midisti, there once lived a peace-loving people. A young boy called Thanatos once gained a diamond sword for his 16th birthday and he loved this sword. But all the happiness faded when they heard the message: the dragons of Ljord had invaded Bovisti and were hungry for land. The eldest man in the village proposed to use the ancient forbidden dark magic. With no other option, they builded a portal of obsidian to the underworld. But when the Ljords arrived, they were furious that the village had escaped their wrath. And so, they unleashed the mightiest dragon of all and blew up the portal. The village and Thanatos could not return to the normal world and were trapped in the dark world of Celcrius. Slowly, their water and food began to run out. Not even tears could exist in this hot, fiery hell. First, their children died. Then the woman. “You have to survive! Thanatos, I beg you!” One for one, they died. For untold decades they suffered the worst fate possible. Thanatos saw his own 4 year old nephew burning in the fire. Why was no one there to help them? Why was no one there to rescue them?! They hated everything and everyone that was not themself. “You have to survive! You need to survive!” The males kept searching for a way out. And after decades there was one. Light, at the end of the tunnel. A new portal. But the people felt betrayed and were bitter. Why had no one helped them sooner? Why gave the Ljords them this fate worse than death? Seething with anger against anything that was not them, they crawled through the portal. One for one. Their way out, but without their wives. Without their children. Why they wanted to live or live a life, they didn’t know anymore. Black from the outside, and black from the inside. The underworld had changed them in all those decades. This is the heartbreaking story of RAGTHANATOS, King of The Empire. - The Kingdom #106 Zwarte Wraak And that is only one of the many, many many story’s that this server has to offer.

@@corruptedultimawerewolf5664 Mmm not quite. The Norse were already a sturdy bunch and had adapted to surviving the harsh cold long before they started being written down in history books as vikings. And well, they succeeded (It's a bit more defined than that, just a quick example)
I like how Siberia is just completely chill the entire time, fishing at their little hole, spreading healthy nationalism and propaganda, no anarchy, fighting, or conflict; but the moment they get threatened they just destroy the other nations and win the game.
If I had to guess, gathering together and watching your collective fishing lines bob up and down was the bare minimum simulation needed to keep everyone kalm. There was no need for politics or surviving hard since there was nothing else to do with your time. Huddling around a tiny fishing hole basically gave them a shared communal identity and brought them together.

@@kgapaneseschoolgirlb Except “America” in non-US geopolitics refers to the combined landmass of north and South America, so using American strictly to refer to people from the US is offensive to almost every other American nation.
@@carterfindore1705 “America” literally EVERYWHERE outside of North and South America refers to the ONLY country with the word in its name, and the only nation to have it as their national identity. Like I said, when people literally everywhere else, talk about the landmass, they say the “Americas”. When the Taliban or other terrorist organisations say “death to America” there isn’t some bearded dude in a cave saying “yeah f*ck Brazilians!” because to everyone outside Latin America, “American” means people from the U.S.A. The people who’s own passport has “American” on it as their nationality. So once again, I will return back to my original statement, that there is no need for semantics like this…
one reason why I love this video so much is because of factions, something about separating people in groups to work together is so interesting, I can just imagine the feeling of being apart of something, but when power takes over it's just pure chaos, it's entertaining to watch but when you're included it's a tragedy.
The whole winter thing was amazing. If you ever do this again, that should be kept, along with some other challenges, maybe like a plague where they have to isolate from each other. The first person the plague is introduced to shouldn't die from it. Players should maybe have 3 lives for "bigger" armies Trading could be encouraged through enchanting. One nation could have access to leather, another paper and another lapis. You could even let civilisations set out to find a nether portal "outpost" where each nether portal 50x50 area allows access to different potion stuff, like a blaze spawner or netherwart. Trade with other nations or conquer all the portals
This was an extremely interesting psychological concept to try and grasp, at first chaos amongst all nations, with no real objective. And then, seemingly out of nowhere, each nation starts to unite amongst themselves and begin planning raids and assaults. This may not see as much meaning to most others as it does to me but I find it extremely interesting to observe.
Although I feel like the outside manipulation of the organizer by giving them explicit goals to achieve tainted the potential of accurate psychological analysis.
@@ArgaJacint I agree, however having seen a couple other similar things (but a long time ago, granted), I think they wouldn't have really developed very well without some goals

in multiple diffeent iterations of this experiment ive seen the jungle organise the fastest. This needs to be a series, with different seasons where you incorporate new mechanics.
I would watch every episode
Yea like a episode with dinasours in prehistoric times maybe a world inspired by the romans or a map that looks like the times of the french Revolution
Yes, but there would have to be more people
Every week a civilization would gain a member. Amount of current members = x. Amount of new members gained equal Y.
Y= x/4
so if they have 20 members the would gain 5 the next week.

Tell us the stories of old and battles of legend
Thanatos, I beg you!”
One for one, they died. For untold decades they suffered the worst fate possible. Thanatos saw his own 4 year old nephew burning in the fire. Why was no one there to help them? Why was no one there to rescue them?! They hated everything and everyone that was not themself.
“You have to survive! You need to survive!”
The males kept searching for a way out.

The whole winter thing was amazing. If you ever do this again, that should be kept, along with some other challenges, maybe like a plague where they have to isolate from each other. The first person the plague is introduced to shouldn't die from it.
Players should maybe have 3 lives for "bigger" armies
Trading could be encouraged through enchanting. One nation could have access to leather, another paper and another lapis.
You could even let civilisations set out to find a nether portal "outpost" where each nether portal 50x50 area allows access to different potion stuff, like a blaze spawner or netherwart. Trade with other nations or conquer all the portals
i like the idea
Damn nice idea
They could also have specific animals in their countries that others dont have
I had a simillar one.
or even up the scale of players but like i said in my other comments it would probably be laggy to heck and impossible
On god dude
I too find it fascinating
Although I feel like the outside manipulation of the organizer by giving them explicit goals to achieve tainted the potential of accurate psychological analysis.
@@ArgaJacint I agree, however having seen a couple other similar things (but a long time ago, granted), I think they wouldn't have really developed very well without some goals
@@ruusteriv yeah there needs to be either goals, restrictions, or stakes. something like this in a video game isn't going to develop in the most interesting sociological way without either goals or restrictions, since stakes are impossible (unless you count being banned from a discord or w/e lol)
This is the video that started all of the Minecraft civilization videos

Who needs netflix this is amazing, so many names to know, so many things to understand, i love this so much
You should do this experiment again but with even more people. I’m sure a lot of people watching this would want to participate.
That's a good idea! What if he slowly added more people to simulate them having kids?

medieval MMORPG server with full player influence (politics/leadership, economy, warfare, etc) would be fuckin sick
Lag be like
The ocean society is a eerily similar story to The Lord of the Flies
-Everything starts off all nice (Island being a paradise)
-Soon unease spreads (Religion comments in the chat)
-Then someone disappears (The guy in the lava)
-An offering to the gods is made (The shrine with the chest)
-Soon a civil war breaks loose between civilization and anarchy (After the leader died)
-Barely anyone remains until someone from the outside comes and restores order (The plains guy that got sent there)
Omg yeah that police officer or whoever it was God damn the end was weirdly fucked

Dude, this is genius. I never thought I'd see philosophy, sociology and behaviorism applied to Minecraft.
So well said. Had to like, subscribe and hit the bell for this guy
philosophy?
There used to be a server like this but it got shut down
Does anyone know the mod used for those Npc civs at 11:14 ?
