I love, love, love big books; where to begin with my favorites. I have always looked for big books and get really excited when I find a book that has a great premise AND is at least 600 pages. Some of my favorites are Gone With The Wind, Forever Amber, Peachtree Road, 11/22/63, Lonesome Dove, all of the Outlander books, and so many more. I have a list on my phone of the tomes at the ready. I’m also excited when I see videos on BookTube about big books (and March of the Mammoths). I hope you get to these great books you mentioned this year, Laurie! ❤️📚❤️
I love 'big' (literary in the true sense)books, no matter that such takes a long time to finish! 'The Count of Monte Cristo'-Alexander Dumas,I read over a 1 year period, & 'Ulysses' -James Joyce, 2/3 years. Both amazing Works of Literature. 😊 I'm presently reading, 'Dombey & Son'- Charles Dickens, (925pp),whilst also reading, for bookgroup, 'Big Sky'- Kate Atkinson (a Jackson Brodie story)
You go girl! Finishing even one of those will feel like an amazing accomplishment. If you're interested, the audio of 11/22/63 is really good. I did print/audio at the same time for the first 100 pages or so to get the characters straight in my mind and then mostly did just audio after that, which worked really well for me. I hope to get to All the Colors of the Dark soon-I need to give myself a deadline so that I'll make it happen.
Books as weapons! I love it! Also, the puppies are adorable. I love big books. I get such a feeling of accomplishment after reading. I'm currently reading Wellness by Nathan Hill, which is about 600 pages I think. It's so good!
Le Mis is a book i am intimidated by. I don’t know if it’s the size or subject or something else? But definitely intimidated. I’ve been thinking over my goals for next year also. I am also scaling back the number of books read and some of the goals I’ve had the last couple of years. The last quarter of this year I’ve been struggling and I think it was just a matter of books I “had” to read over what I would have liked to read. This mood reader is just about done with tbr’s lol. I’m cheering for you with this goal. Even some if not all would be a great accomplishment at the end of next year. The Mark Lawrence books interest me a lot.
I may set some reading goals for 2025. The first big book I'd like read is Lonesome Dove. I watched the mini series a long time ago. Always enjoy your videos.
I’m not going to have a reading goal. I put a lot of pressure on myself to read alot of books. So I never read a big book. I have many to read and so big books are what I’m reading. I’ll read less books because I usually 100 plus. So no reading challenge for me this year. Just big books.
I never use to be afraid of big books, I used to love them, but that is before I knew of booktube or goodreads. No monthly time limit. If I do get into a big book, I need it to hold my interest and be fast paced.
I did a Les Miz challenge 2 years ago. Although the idea was to read a chapter per day, some chapters were 1 or 2 pages long so I went ahead and read 1 or 2 more. It all worked out and I finished with a few days to spare. Best of luck.
I agree with the personal pressure. This month I decided to read big books. I finished The Bee Sting. 643 pages. Currently reading Familiaris by David Wroblewski. 975 pages.
I’m done with setting goals. I’ll read a big book if it interests me. They are just sometimes too unwieldy to read in bed or the car or the doctor’s office.
Currently I am reading "4 3 2 1", which, at 1070 pages, I declare a big book. Since it is very heavy, it is not compatible for commute-reading. Unless I would get it as an e-book. But I don't reallylike to read e-books. So I have a smaller book for commutes. Big books have not often been on my reading stack, but I aim to change that in 2025. Thqt is, as in: when I do lend a book from the library, I will choose the bigger of two choices, ìf both are equally interesting. I also have a stack of 9 unread books, that I want to read. That is, why I bought them, after all.😊 So, four goals for my reading in 2025: read more big books, read, what I have recently bought, read from the library and re-read old favourites from my own shelves. Also, I hope to buy only one book next year and that is the latest Phryne Fisher book by Kerry Greenwood. All the rest will hopefully be lent or re-reads.
For me 'Reading Challenges',kills the joy of reading! It's stressful, can generate a sense of failure if you don't follow through, & places quantity over quality reading. Reading 15 books in a month, then you're not really 'reading', in the true sense of what it is to 'read'. Imho.
I don’t really feel intimidated by a big book when I was a young adult. I always bought big books cause I thought I was getting more for my money. How crazy is that?

You can do it Laurie! I have one in mind on my shelf that's a big book. I will have to add it to my 2025 ideas list. Now you've got me thinking!!

i gravitate towards big books. i love getting immersed in a good big book. i am reading the god of the woods right now. 📚
Great list! Loved them all! You’re making me want to reread most of them in 2025. LOL

Loved 11/22/63! I flew through it.

Ahhhh. Familiaris is on my nightstand wondering why I’ve ignored him for the last two months!
If I can lift it over my head that would be an intruder deterrent.
I loved your introduction!
Good luck😊

Enjoy reading them all 🤗
