My plan was to move abroad after retirement too. Sadly the 90 day rule means we can no longer sell up here and move. And owning a property abroad as well as here is unaffordable

You are so lucky to be able to do what your doing with your Dad mate, I lost my dad nearly 3 years ago at the age of 66. There's not a day goes by I don't think about him, I would give anything to have just one more day with him.

Many years ago I bought a Triumph T509 Speed Triple because my girlfriend said she no longer wanted to ride pillion.
Of course, as soon as I bought the bike she decided she DID want to ride pillion again, but found the standard seat to be like a mediaeval torture device.
There's nothing you can't fix with a few chunks of foam, some vinyl, glue, and a heavy duty industrial stapler!
Be good to see the old man back on the channel; apart from anything else, he makes me feel young!
Huge thanks and best wishes to you both

Hi Darcy, the Fat Boy is beautiful! borrowed my mates some time ago which had stage 2 screamin eagle and V&H radius pipes, that thing would set car alarms off when you rode past. Sounded awsome though. As for the Guzzi V7 my son had one and it was a lovely, lovely, bike. It would be less than half the price of a new Fat Boy and infinately more chuckable ( not a word, I know). Sorry the YOUNG man's plans fell through but great to see him back . Hope to see you out on the lanes sometime. Best wishes, Paul.

I have had 2 fat boys a 2010 and 2018. To me they ruined it by putting the massive tyres on as it does not handle as well as the old one. The looks are great but it doesn’t handle and doesn’t stop very well. The other problem is when you spend the best part of 25k you expect the finished article. But with HD that is where it starts you can easily spend another 10k on customisation and you get caught up in the whole image.

Great vid. I had the same dilemma and regret selling my fatbob. Keep your harley and purchase another bike for different needs. Sadly one bike can't satisfy all your needs and it's taken me 30 years and a lot of bike purchases to realise this. In my view I need a scrambler for wet/ winter riding, a street bike for dry everyday use and cruiser for those long trips. Indulgent and expensive yes but it's the only way it works for me. Good luck.

Its up to you if you really want to sell your Harley. But if I were you I would keep it and do a few upgrades to it. You will be surprised what you can turn it into. If you really want to buy another bike and have the money to buy a second bike keep the Harley. The LRS are just too common and way over hyped and over priced IMO. If you want to spend that much I would rather go for the Fatboy than the LRS. It's more cheaper to do upgrades on your own bike and wouldn't cost as much as buying basically the same bike.

That Continental GT vs V7 comparison would be great to see! Those were the bikes I was really torn between for my first one. I ended up buying something completely different because I found a good deal, but I'm still interested to see how those two stack up to each other.
The idea of upgrading the Softail also sounds fun, there's a million new bike day videos out there anyways, and selling it would mean taking that depreciation hit.

Would like to see you review the Guzzi Mandello V100 ?
FWIW I have a late 2023 Guzzi V7 Stone Special Edition ... be aware that the engine MUST be run in...
Mine gets better every day, now at 5k kms. No problems... maintenence is relatively easy. It's a good thing as I live in Northern British Columbia and the nearest dealer is over 1000km away!
The V7 shares the garage with my 2020 Triumph T120 "Bud Ekins" (43k km) and zero problems.
I can do 400-450 km rides on the V7, but the T120 is definitely better for distance. Both are full nakeds, no screens, etc.
As a plus, they have the same tyre sizes!
The V7 has more than enough to play with the Harleys 😊
The T120 can outrun many, especially in the curves 😊
PS 6FT, 67yrs... had many types of bikes. These two are meeting all my needs... very happy!

Get that Low Rider ST. It checks all the boxes and there's no faffing about with "needed" fixes. Or, if you really want to keep your bike, a 2 into 1, cam, and very slightly longer shock go a long way into improving power and handling. But as someone else said, you won't get any return from mods. As much as you like the Guzzi, your reaction the Harley in the distance says you're not going to enjoy the change. Not as much as you would like.

Only thing wrong on this bike is that abbreviated front fender..too short, allows the dirt to cover the oil cooler which then draws the eye to the oil cooler. Harley did a pretty good job of making the cooler unobtrusive by putting it between the frame rails and keeping it fairly slim. But any kind of a radiator on a bike is ugly. I'd put a longer front fender on the bike.

So, the Softail is: expensive, and not as grunty as you want. I personally think you probably want it to be more like a LRS or LRST, so I would advise you to go try a 2006 or later Yamaha Warrior 1700, which has nearly identical geometry to the HD, more suspension travel, radial, R1-derived brakes, and a lighter frame. Arguably one of the best muscle/performance cruisers, which is why I think HD cribbed a bunch of geometry and specs from it. If the HD doesn't feel dramatically better, then you may have your next bike and have a great vehicle to compare to newer cruisers while making awesome content.
You could also do what many tall people who want an inexpensive Evo-powered bike that handles well, and get a Buell. They are quite cheap in the UK. I also think you would love the overall packaging of the 2008 Roadster which gave you a big-tank Sportster with good handling, and proper brakes.
I also think you would be well-suited to a Victory Octane which was the more-aggressive version of the Indian Scout. Put the factory tall-seat on one and have a blast.
Or maybe go try a new V9 Guzzi and see if that tickles your fancy for way less than the cost of an HD. Maybe the BMW R12 with a seat that has been to a local seat-shop for some taller foam is where you want to hang your hat.
Maybe try out a 2006 or 2007 VRSCR Street Rod. HD likes to pretend that these big liquid-cooled Revolution V-twins don't exist but they handle spectacularly, and make a great foundation for a build while being affordable.

Maybe you should think about getting an older Harley (or other brand), perhaps even vintage (as in carburetor). It's an entirely different riding experience than what you are probably used to . . . and I think a much more gratifying one. But if speed and power is all you really care about, then perhaps not. Sorry to hear about the old man's plans all falling through. He seemed really excited about it. It's unfortunate.

Sounds like a disappointing situation for the Ol man but I'm happy I'll be seeing more of his vids. I suspect you may have an unhealthy relationship with the exhaust sound of the Harley Davidson lol Great vid, thank you have a great day. Cheers Karl

I haven't ridden a Harley yet but want to now. there is a ride event I'm going to miss on the 10th too unfortunately, but I do absolutely LOVE the V7 Special I just got. The black Special looks awesome I know either bike will be fun! Guzzi I think I less of a long distance cruiser though but I'm sure you know better than me!

Very simple. Sell it. The seed has been sown in your head to sell. Buying mods to it will be a waste of money, that you won't get back in a trade-in/sale

I mostly agree with this. If you have to spend a bunch on the bike for you to love then it's probably not the bike for you. And as you pointed out it's lost money you will never see again. If you can't stay passionate about your bike then it's time to look for something that provides it. As a brand Guzzi does that for me. Always has.

Best wishes to your ‘ol’ man.
Just a thought, how about reviewing subscribers bikes? They don’t necessarily have to be involved and it would perhaps open up a whole new content area for you.

Change the pipes, add a cam and upgrade the suspension. You'll have the bike you like that rides and feels different

As much as I adore the Harley range ok some of the range, not a fan of the ever increasing prices and I made a decision this year to move on from the Iron 883 2017 after some serious looking and testing I have decided to go with the Triumph x400 Scrambler. The fit and finish is as good as the Harley stuff and I wanted something more diverse and multi functional. So this will definitely be in December of this year. I borrowed a few bikes from friends rented a few and tested a few and this was the solution at the end.
