I agree with you! People are bitching about the writing and Season 6 being "off", but I'm actually enjoying this more than Season 5. I miss the "England" piecem but Alfred will be back. In the meantime, things are tighter and more focused this season, with less extraneous characters running around. Also agree on the kingship... Bjorn is an explorer and a warrior; he's not really meant to be king. Harald is more of a politician, willing to do whatever it takes to obtain power.
I’m just glad Lagertha got her final epic battle. Thanks to Katheryn Winnick for her work over the years! When we think about it, each son of Ragnar played a part in Lagertha’s death. Bjorn for letting those bandits go and leaving Kattegat. Ubbe for not looking after Hvitserk and not sending warriors to help Lagertha. Hvitserk for doing it but if he didn’t vision Ivar, he never would’ve done it. Really good writing from Hirst there. The Rus’ storyline is so good. Oleg is just fucking with Ivar and it’s a chess match with him and Ivar. Reminds me of Ragnar and Ecbert but a crazier version lol. Also, that head wasn’t Dir’s. He got away safely. Those heads were the guards who let him get away. This season has been a lot better than Season 5 in terms of writing and consistency. I think it’ll end up being one of the best seasons of the show.
The writers of the show put emphasis on the fact that all the Vikings were "Sons of Ragnar". This was said so many times throughout the entire series. The reason the writers put emphasis on that is because they wanted to have the option of killing Lagartha off using either one of Ragnar's literal sons or by another Viking. It was also meant to let the viewers know her doom was to come but the viewers wouldn't be able to easily predict who would kill Lagartha...because the viewers were supposed to be cautious/skeptical of not just the literal sons but all the Sons of Ragnar (all the Vikings). However, many viewers did not catch that and the writers, I think, finally decided to use a literal son of Ragnar because many of the viewers still wouldn't understand the "Sons of Ragnar" concept. I hope this shed some light 🙂

Bjorn is a great warrior but as for leadership he is lacking greatly. Harold being the king goes along with history and makes sense considering not only his ambition but the qualities he has that show that he will be a great leader for his people.

Its a very good episode, but the best episode is episode 7. It has been magic. I needed to see Lagertha dead and that funeral... make me to feel bad for her

Yes, her character did go through a period where she really didn't have that much purpose in the narrative and felt kinda forced (her relationship with Heahmund for example), but she never lost what made me love her in the first place, and her final fight exemplifies that.
Yeah, I liked Lagertha, but her character should heve left the show a while ago. It did not feel like she really had a place in the saga anymore. Plus Katheryn Winnick is simply way too good looking to be playing what should be an old lady by now. It was kinda immersion-breaking for me.

Hirst said in the commentary that Ivar’s going through a bit of post-traumatic syndrome, feeling remorse for killing Freydis although I think that’s unnecessary for we already know how much he loved her and how much agony her lies and betrayal have caused him. He was weeping through the entire killing scene, so it should’ve been obvious to everyone, but casting the same actress to show the viewers what Ivar sees was definitely an interesting move. She isn’t supposed to really look exactly like Freydis to others, she probably jusr resembles her, but to Ivar she is identical.
I'm assuming you may have already figured it out by this point but the reason that they're attacking Lagertha and her people is it was her idea to have Bjorn banish the leader of the bandits just answering a question from your video before this one
Also, I'd love to recommend an anime which i think would be a profoundly powerful show to react to. It's called Vinland Saga. For Vikings/ Last Kingdom fans, it would definitely be an interesting watch. While i know that not everyone is an anime fan necessarily, i do believe that if you're a lover of this genre and of amazing storytelling, it will be a great addition to the shows you react to. Hey, Carly. I guess you can blame me for any historical spoilers about King Harald. Frankly, I was happily surprised Vikings went with history and gave the crown to Harald. I did not expect that. Now we are in an even more interesting place. Historically, many of the great Icelandic Sagas are about families that were enemies of King Harald and fled to Iceland. Are Björn, Ubbe, and Torvi about to go to Iceland? And who is this Eric who saved Björn and Flat Nose? Eric Bloodaxe was a son of Harald. Eric the Red is still a long way off and an Icelander who discovered Greenland. But then again, Rollo was time-shifted to make him a brother of Ragnar, so either is possible, I suppose. There really is no guessing anymore. I predict a HUGE time-jump between episodes 610 and 611. I just hope they don’t make us wait a year like last time.
Felt sorry for hvitserk but it was fate. They all had a part to play in it bjorn cos he branded the guys and the reason was cos they followed ivar plus ivars actions haunted hvitserk too which led to hvitserk actually carrying out the act and ubbe maybe because he didn’t stay or let torvi go or maybe because he never sent warriors i dont know but yeah 😫 the sons played their part.
Imagine freydis somehow is still alive. She "escaped" to russia before Ivar, met Oleg and told him her story. Then Ivar comes to russia. Oleg said "i have heard of you.... Ivar.... The Boneless"... Imagine that what he heard, is from Freydis. Then suddently he introduce hes new Whife to Ivar. It could all be a conspiracy between the 2 against Ivar. I knew it was gonna be Hitzserk from episode 2..theres been so many signs. Especially this episode. The seer speech to Hitzserk to his purpose being altered in fulfillment. Soon as she said she needs to go to Kattegat I knew she was gonna die now. Her crawling like Ivar, Hitzserk saying it here soon as she arrives. Unfortunately it was his purpose, I feel so sorry for him but I'm sure his ghosts will stop now...just praying Bjorn doesnt burn him alive and forgives. Each son pretty much played a part in her death. Bjorn let those men go and branded them, Ubbe didnt send help to the village, only Brumhilld went. Ivar was what Hitzserk saw and white hair was his man & Hitzserk did the actual killing.
I hate this screenwriter, This episode ending is the worst episode ending in the whole series after the episode ending of Ragnar's cruel death. An unnecessary death that deviates from the historical facts, Because Lagertha was never killed, And certainly not by Ragnar's son, So her unnecessary death by the delusional drugged Hvitserk, Which is accompanied by an annoying lament song, With the rain and the empty city at night is just the fruit of the screenwriter's fevered mind, Just like in the last season of Game Of Thrones, Whose the series writers ruined the whole series with its terrible ending, And lowered its rating. And Bjorn Ironside was the legendary king of Sweden, not Norway. And he was also in fact the son of Aslaug, not of Lagertha.
