  • This piece is also rather fittingly named 'The Sighing Wind'. I decided to play this at a slower tempo because it brings out more of the melancholic feeling rather than the more agitated feeling like some other interpretations out there.

And that's how it's played. Not fast like many others on here. Love the dynamics too!

You play so beautifully that you've convinced me to learn this. Love the slower tempo, I also tend to play some of these song without words on the slower side.

I am currently playing this piece now and using similar tempo, it makes the piece more romantic and expressive. Well played!

Excelente, muy melancólica la pieza. La digitación es perfecta, sólo hay que cerrar los ojos y escuchar. Felicitaciones.

very warm performance, right tempi and expressions. Congratulations! But why using another fingering than recommended? Its more complicated for the left hand and hands doesn't work together this way.

Late reply here, but thanks! I agree with you on the fingerings. This was recorded years ago but I still remember to this day that I regretted using my own customised fingerings which forced my left hand to frequently jump around which made accuracy more difficult. Back then I learnt this piece without any guidance from a teacher, and I wanted to have the melody line played solely by the right hand so that the singing line can be more well controlled and shaped (if that makes any sense). Half way into learning the piece I found that my own fingerings was actually a lot more difficult, but I can't be bothered to go back to re-learn the original fingering so I just stuck with it and practised that left hand like a maniac.

@@MXChan I am not aware of a 'recommended' fingering on the ur text; also, fingering depends on the players hand size, shape, and dexterity

    I'm just learning it... 😁❤❤❤
And I don't really get what's supposed to be wrong in your tempo... I find it perfect for this kind of piece, allows to catch nuances that go totally lost if played otherwise.

Many of Mendelssohn''s SWW have very fast tempo markings. Nevertheless, this composition sounds very beautiful as performed here. Is it possible an artist's creation can exceed the singular artist's intention? Perhaps Mendelssohn, himself, could not realize his own creations outside of his own brisk tempo of life. We are fortunate to enjoy the freedom to interpret the music strictly as written or as how the original artist's creation affects us. Would Mendelssohn fault us for hearing and feeling subtleties he, himself, might have been too busy even to notice? I do not know the answer. ❤🎹🎶

the ones who play this, do they use this more complex fingering for the left hand or do they stick to what is written by Mendelsshon?

I think most people would stick to the original fingering. I regret doing this complex fingering for my left hand!

@@MXChan you may have used a more complicated fingering, but wow...you nailed it. Both the feel and the melody are just sensational. Well done.

Honestly drags at this tempo. If you change your fingering you might be inclined to play it faster, which in my opinion is more effective. Just one random slob's opinion :-)

I don't really like the way you play this piece. It's just way too slow in some places. I'm not saying this is not supposed to be slow but the slow is just way too exaggerated. I like playing it a bit faster.
