Nice video Emma! That Thelonious Monk Quartet lp I go to again and again: it's so good. At the end of the day, it's all about what speaks to us in some way, regardless of the genre. 😎🎶
Nice compilation. Even spotted the rocking of our own FAV record shops (Riverbend for the IL side, and Euclid for the MO side) shirts in the area as well. Some in own collection that people are surprised at: The Seekers and ABBA. But am also not shy to rock out some Ozzy and Metallica just the same. Great job.
"There are only 2 kinds of music: Good and bad; we try and do the good and stay away from the bad" Duke Ellington...So, no, I wasn't surprised....Peace and Love, Terry Tutor
I listen to many genres, and love the fact that you explore all genres. In the mid-seventies I went through a period that I got into a lot of electronic stuff and the best to me was always Tangerine Dream. Still enjoy them today. I've also gotten deep into jazz and love Miles, Coltrane, Ornette, Armstrong, Monk, Blakey, Dolphy, Mingus, Rollins, Gordon, Sanders, and Chambers. I was a punk rocker right from the beginning and the Pistols are still my favorite. I also love oldies, blues, country (Especially Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, and Waylon.), soul, and modern classical. Really almost all genres. Keep exploring a lot of stuff, and feel free to reach out any time. Love your video.
This is one of your best videos. Thanks for sharing and the Kennelmus shout out. For jazz I generally like hard bop the best but I’m just a sucker for anything with mallet instruments. I can’t get enough of vibes, xylophone, marimba, etc. (and flutes). One of my absolute favorite musicians is Cal Tjader, though no one around me would be surprised because I have a bunch of his records and intend on getting every last one of them. Everything he did was just exquisite and atmospheric. I prefer older country as well but there is some select contemporary stuff that has impressed me over time. Check out Freedy Johnston if you don’t know about him. It’s not straight country but there’s just a real brightness to his sound and songwriting that I think can really appeal to anyone who likes power pop. Lots of good influences in his music.
I do love me some Johnny Cash! I only started listening to him when I got back into vinyl. So I was very late to the game. But I’m in love with his American Recordings catalog. Thelonius Monk gives off a tremendous Vibe & brings you right in while listening. Thanks a bunch for hoping on as your channel is amazing Emma. 🙏🏻
Great video. Exploring music outside your wheelhouse is always a good thing. Even if it doesn't hit you right away. There's people out there who are obsessed and pay big big bucks for some Misfits titles. Collection 2 has a lot of their best songs. My dad had a 78rpm of Johnny Cash on Sun (BIg River/Teenage Queen) I'm a huuuuge Thelonious Monk fan. His unique style of piano playing was and still is a game changer. I've always told people trying to get into Monk to start with that Monk's Dream album you have. I would also recommend Brilliant Corners and live the album with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall... You've probably heard more Tangerine Dream music than you think, they did a lot of movie soundtracks. If you see the soundtrack albums to Thief or Sorcerer, grab them. Never heard of that Folkstone Prism and that kind of obscure psych stuff is right up my alley. I must investigate. Keep rockin in the free world!
One of the things I like about your channel is the variety of music you enjoy, so it's no surprise you like those artists/bands. Since you like Jazz a little bit, have you given a listen to Big Band music? It's an offshoot of Jazz with its own style. Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Count Basie are a few of the well-known bands. Have a nice day!
I appreciate you, Jim!! I have listened to Big Band. I actually really do love Benny Goodman. Apparently, my grandfather (who played clarinet) played a show with him in Chicago. So I do have a connection to Benny and his music. Glenn Miller and Count Basie - both great. Have a great week!!!
I was very surprised by all your picks. Recently I started listening to the Misfits and I like them. Very nice find on the Monk album, "Bright Mississippi" is a great track. Thanks for sharing...
Hello Emma. Great video, please do more of these types of videos. I do like various Punk bands like The Cramps, The Descendants, Minor Threat, Bad Brains etc even some Psychobilly bands. With Jazz it's limited, mainly classic Blue Note albums, but also Anita 'O Day, Frank Sinatra etc. With Country music I do enjoy classic Country artists like EmmyLou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Tammy Wynette, but new Country artists like Lainey Wilson & Chris Stapleton. Psychedelic Rock ? Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Jimmy Hendrix etc. With Thrash Metal it's Metallica, Anthrax,, Exodus, Iron Maiden. Blues music ? Muddy Walters, Son House, Lightnin' Hopkins, Sister Rosetta Tharpe,, Bonnie Raitt, Big Mama Thornton. RIP John Mayall. Watching in 🇬🇧👍
Great video, Emma. You had me at Misfits. Famous Monsters is severely underrated. Johnny rules. I like San Quentin a tad more than Folsom Live. Blood, Sweat and Tears!!!! Yes!
Emma, killer Misfits. I got 20 eyes in my head! Get down with that outlaw country. Cash! Maybe you dip your toes in some Willie and Waylon. I’m not familiar with that psych record. I’ll have to stream it. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
I was definetley surprised by your selections I never thought you would be into tangerine dream one of my favorite German bands or thelonius monk but hey variety is the spice of life love ya
Hi Emma - Tangerine 🍊 Dream do the soundtrack to two of my favorite films Sorcerer & Risky Business. Neither film would be nearly as good without the touch of them. Recommend seeing both films & picking up both soundtracks ! Take Care.
Well the engineer said just before he died There were two more drinks that he'd like to try The doctor said "What could they be?" A HOT CUPPA COFFE AND A COLD GLASS OF TEA 🚂💥
So interesting to see your five albums. Your music taste is very eclectic. That Cash album is really awesome.
Thank you so much for watching! :)
Fun video! Dig the Cash and Monk, both are great artists!
Thank you very much!
Jazz is not dead. It just smells funny.

Thanks again for the inspiration for this one, Anthony. I had fun putting this together. Can’t go wrong with some Cash.

Aah-Tangerine Dream!! Been a fan of them since the early 70’s! But as you are probably aware-electronic music is a rabbit hole that truly never ends!
Thanks for watching! Any recommendations on where to go next if I dig this live album?
I was very surprised by all your picks. Recently I started listening to the Misfits and I like them. Very nice find on the Monk album, "Bright Mississippi" is a great track. Thanks for sharing...
Glad you were surprised! Yeah, the Misfits are great. I love this Monk so much. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Chris! I dig San Quentin, too. Just need to pick it up on vinyl. Will do eventually.
nothing surprised me. you love music as do i. my collection is a -z ( ABBA to ZAPPA ) cheers!
Love it! Cheers!
Nice to see that Thelonious record, so good! The only punk I've gotten into are the Ramones and Green Day haha.
It's a great one. I think it's time to dip your foot into some more punk. So much out there. Thanks Sam!
@@EightVinylLow sigh..... you're probably right
@@samstjohn1994 Play around with some proto punk stuff.
Fun video! My personal path into Jazz was through the blues. There’s a lot of crossover between the two for sure…
Thanks Mike! I had fun with this one. Definitely crossover.
