I then proceeded to have the biggest 1950 induced cringe I think i ever have had in my entire life, so far.
Dad knows how to keep his family happy. Dad helps his wife with the chores and has productive conversations. Dad is supportive and gives good advice. Be like Dad.
Don’t forget that mom also does her part too. She takes cares of the kids, listens to her husband, doesn’t make drama and holds her femininity. Hard to find such a woman these days.

Not sure why, but watching this film makes me realize that the teenage years are in their way an absolute emotional torture on any person going through this daunting time in life. Doesn't matter if it's a kid in the 1950's, today, 1978, or whenever. I don't care how confident the kid seems at first glance, it is hell for most young adults. Not only are you trying to fit in or be a leader or simply just get by unscathed, but in addition your body is going through its own incredible werewolf transformation featuring growth spurts, acne, puberty, periods, odors, and more. Ad a few more interesting elements like popularity and dating and trying to succeed, and the teenage life can be a massive challenge. It's a miracle most of us get through this phase in one piece, or this side of a mental sanitarium. I wouldn't want to endure that again. 😄
It is inherently an awkward time in life. Anything that you have isn't by your own merit, hormones/ learning stuff like you said, most everybody has awkward first loves or dates probably, lots of people full of or swayed by false confidence... I'm just glad I cruised by it being the quiet kid. & was just into band/ fishing/ video games/ playing tennis later on. High school also awkward and much of the same, but at least one can drive/ work a job/ is more clear who has actual potential in life toward or by the end of that
As a teenage in 90s Serbia, i went through literal hell with all that puberty bs, social pressure and "gonna must do like the others do", where you had to compete against "upper class cool turbofolk dizel kids" because their daddy is politician or criminal, while rest of us could only pray to god to make it through the next week. Luckly i passed that bs by moving into Germany, got married 3 years ago in my 40 and have no worries of the world.
This film was not a PSA. A Public Service Announcement was exactly that, an announcement, lasting the length of a commercial, about 2 minutes or less. This video was a film.
My dad was born in 1941. I'm 30. I remember him telling me first hand about being a young teen in the fifties (though he was only eight when this PSA was made). He said that while real life didn't necessarily parallel what you see in films like this, some of it is absolutely true. If a young woman was seen as promiscuous or "easy" she wasn't celebrated but shunned. Men did used to dress like this for a date. Vitalis in the hair, fleck or print spread lapel sport coat, tie, shined shoes and the whole bit. The differences he pointed out, though, usually were class based. Dad grew up in the poor italian neighborhood (we're american italian) in Chicago. My grandfather served prison time for car theft when my dad was four. Dad was told that the prison he visited my grandfather in was actually a highly guarded governement research facility and the guards were there to protect the men that worked there. In that neighborhood violence wasn't uncommon. Kids ran in street gangs and did petty crime. The only people with money in that neighborhood were connected or worked for the outfit. Trunk burglars (sold hot merchandise out of car trunks), second-story men, go-fers, numbers runners. If you were a stand up guy you worked for the city as a driver or a cop, fireman, bus driver, laborer etc. My dad wanted to be a fashion designer and design women's gowns. He was told to keep those dreams to himself in case people might think he was a homosexual. I love the values extolled in these videos, but it wasn't a reality for everyone. When he was very young he remembers seeing a "Veterans of the Civil War" parade. Not many guys left, but a few 100 year olds were there wearing their old medals. He actually met an old black man who was 99 years old who began his life as a slave in the deep south. This was in the late 40's. Man. Now I think about my life. Born in 1988. What a different world.

Honestly, I think dating as a teenager was a much bigger deal back then than it is now in the sense that most people got married immediately after high school. The way they talked in the video was just the style of acting in film back then. Real people didn't actually talk like that, maybe somewhat, but in film they definitely exaggerated. People also used more manners back then and acted more polite.

If race is in any way linked to those, it has to do more with culture than racism. Asians are kicking everyone else's ass in college. Is our culture asian supremacist? No, it isn't. There's no such thing as a patriarchy where a tiny minority decided "let's not let people use the planet however they want". That's not how the world works. Laws come to existence to solve problems between people when they decided to live together in an organized manner. If there's a law saying you can't just pee on the ground, that law is there to protect the person who also uses this ground. We are not hunter gatherers anymore, we are too much people to have "access to the planet's resources" as you say.

People had the same rights as today, apart from some minor rights on segregation (now banned) and refusing service to customers ect. It's just another thing loaded onto the shoulders of males. On a date, they do all the work, take all the emotional risk, and spend all the money. The only real demand males have of females in the US is that they shave their arm pits and legs.
My grandfather was a bit of a ladies man so he liked my grandma because she wasn't easy. She demanded to be treated like a lady. I think they went on one date but that was it cause he was always traveling back and forth from the Mexican border due to work. He went out with other women and decided he wanted to settle down with my grandmother. She basically told him no and that he had to earn her hand in marriage. Eventually he did and they had six children. They've been married for almost 55 years now.

We live in very different times due to technology (social media, dating apps etc.) and a big government (voted in primarily by women). Women consider an increasing proportion of men as beneath them and unattractive). Due to government they don't need men directly to survive (although only men are net tax payers and keep the infrastructure running). Not sure why, but watching this film makes me realize that the teenage years are in their way an absolute emotional torture on any person going through this daunting time in life. Doesn't matter if it's a kid in the 1950's, today, 1978, or whenever. I don't care how confident the kid seems at first glance, it is hell for most young adults. Not only are you trying to fit in or be a leader or simply just get by unscathed, but in addition your body is going through its own incredible werewolf transformation featuring growth spurts, acne, puberty, periods, odors, and more. Ad a few more interesting elements like popularity and dating and trying to succeed, and the teenage life can be a massive challenge. It's a miracle most of us get through this phase in one piece, or this side of a mental sanitarium. I wouldn't want to endure that again. 😄
It is inherently an awkward time in life. Anything that you have isn't by your own merit, hormones/ learning stuff like you said, most everybody has awkward first loves or dates probably, lots of people full of or swayed by false confidence... I'm just glad I cruised by it being the quiet kid. & was just into band/ fishing/ video games/ playing tennis later on. High school also awkward and much of the same, but at least one can drive/ work a job/ is more clear who has actual potential in life toward or by the end of that
As a teenage in 90s Serbia, i went through literal hell with all that puberty bs, social pressure and "gonna must do like the others do", where you had to compete against "upper class cool turbofolk dizel kids" because their daddy is politician or criminal, while rest of us could only pray to god to make it through the next week.
Luckly i passed that bs by moving into Germany, got married 3 years ago in my 40 and have no worries of the world.

My dad was born in 1941. I'm 30. I remember him telling me first hand about being a young teen in the fifties (though he was only eight when this PSA was made). He said that while real life didn't necessarily parallel what you see in films like this, some of it is absolutely true. If a young woman was seen as promiscuous or "easy" she wasn't celebrated but shunned. Men did used to dress like this for a date. Vitalis in the hair, fleck or print spread lapel sport coat, tie, shined shoes and the whole bit. The differences he pointed out, though, usually were class based. Dad grew up in the poor italian neighborhood (we're american italian) in Chicago. My grandfather served prison time for car theft when my dad was four. Dad was told that the prison he visited my grandfather in was actually a highly guarded governement research facility and the guards were there to protect the men that worked there. In that neighborhood violence wasn't uncommon. Kids ran in street gangs and did petty crime. The only people with money in that neighborhood were connected or worked for the outfit. Trunk burglars (sold hot merchandise out of car trunks), second-story men, go-fers, numbers runners. If you were a stand up guy you worked for the city as a driver or a cop, fireman, bus driver, laborer etc. My dad wanted to be a fashion designer and design women's gowns. He was told to keep those dreams to himself in case people might think he was a homosexual. I love the values extolled in these videos, but it wasn't a reality for everyone. When he was very young he remembers seeing a "Veterans of the Civil War" parade. Not many guys left, but a few 100 year olds were there wearing their old medals. He actually met an old black man who was 99 years old who began his life as a slave in the deep south. This was in the late 40's. Man. Now I think about my life. Born in 1988. What a different world.

My grandfather was a bit of a ladies man so he liked my grandma because she wasn't easy. She demanded to be treated like a lady. I think they went on one date but that was it cause he was always traveling back and forth from the Mexican border due to work. He went out with other women and decided he wanted to settle down with my grandmother. She basically told him no and that he had to earn her hand in marriage. Eventually he did and they had six children. They've been married for almost 55 years now.

Just be like me and wear suits to everything, including places where you loom weird wearing a suit. I'm always best dressed wherever i go, and it shows in my body language. No fool with a branded hoodie looks better than me in a suit. The only people who look better are those who have better fitting suits or better looking body to fuit those suits.

This needs to be recirculated around the world since nobody seems to know the proper way to date anymore.
We live in very different times due to technology (social media, dating apps etc.) and a big government (voted in primarily by women). Women consider an increasing proportion of men as beneath them and unattractive). Due to government they don't need men directly to survive (although only men are net tax payers and keep the infrastructure running).
Also the pill allowed women to be more promiscuous which have destroyed their capacity to pair bond in a life long marriage (which have changed due to no fault divorce, alimony etc.)

I never thought being on time for new date. In the 80s, 15 minutes late you still had to wait. Ring doorbell, knock door. Introduce yourself as a guy who doesn't work, prefers his friends to hang out with.The type of guy who does his own thing. Never finished drop out.
