Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host paul and this video we're breaking down one of the big reveals in Secret Invasion. If youve caught the finale then you'll know that we finally see Rhodey getting freed from Skrull captivity and him being one was supposed to be one of the shows big twists.
All the way back in episode 3 we discovered that he'd been swapped out and this came with a phone call to Varra summoning them to meet. Upon arriving at a church she was ordered to kill her husband and this is when it hammered it home that Rhodey was working for the other team. Revealed to be called Raava this is a skrull from the comics who ended up becoming a pirate that was imprisoned with Black Bolt and Absorbing Man.
Raava worked alongside these whereas here she's clearly a villain that's desperate to be seen in her own skin. Now one of the big questions you probably have right now is when exactly did she snatch him and how long has Rhodey actually been a skrull for?
Throughout this video we're gonna be breaking it all down and nailing exactly when it was that they were switched out. There are some people saying that it's civil War but we'll explain why that isn't actually the case.

looks like your right with Rodey not being taken before endgame if hes bleeding red but would like to put a what if moment out there as to why Gravic could have take Rodey before he got mad with Fury by the time civil war happened it had been a long time since Fury promised the skrulls a home and its understandable why Gravic would start having doubts about Fury and started thinking of a plan B and wanted a spy and Rodey is the perfect choice he is a Avenger and one that has no powers or cant fly without the suit he's the easiest to copy not only that he is a Military and political official the skull Rodey was like 3 spys in one but like i said i agree with what you said it was after endgame

No way was he a skull from civil war bc there is no way you can tell me Tony starks Jarvis or Friday ai system wouldn't be able to detect that Rhodes wasnt Rhodes. While operating the Ironman suit bc if he was why wouldn't thr skulls jus steal all the iron man suits and extremis to heal themselves bang unbeatable right there imo

At this point, I think they left it vague on purpose so that we could tell them the most logical point for Rhodey to get swapped.
And to keep us fans talking about it for the next 3-12 months til the next connected movie.

Honestly, he was only a skrull for a few days. If they reveal it was anything longer than a few days, then it would defeat all logic. When he’s rescued, his hair, beard, nails etc are all short. The only way he (or anyone else) could’ve been a skrull for longer than a few days is if the skrulls who were looking after their bodies were trimming their hair and clipping their nails…which makes no sense. Also, I’m pretty sure he and everyone else would die soon anyway from radiation poisoning since their bodies were all being stored under an old reactor.

I paused watching them for awhile after WandaVision, but then I realized it wasn't the channel's fault, it was Marvel's. So many good stories, so many good ideas... such lame execution.

I think he was taken after Endgame as well. Skrulls had no reason to be angry until it was clear Fury wasn't going to keep up his end of the deal.

I think Rhodey was taken - NOT after Civil War - but after Endgame. With the amount of damage to his legs, it makes sense that he would have to get quarterly checkups. And, since he did major battle during Endgame, he would have been checked out immediately thereafter, thus being in the hospital gown. Gravik was part of the team collecting specimens after the Battle of Earth, so it would also be a convenient time for him to kidnap Rhodey and replace him with Raava.

He was not taken after endgame he was taken during civil war at the end, I look back at civil war and secret invasion and did some breakdown what I found when was rhodey falling and hit the ground in civil war and rhodey was put in this tube and was wearing a hospital gown, and in secret invasion he wearing the same one and he try to move but his legs were still injured and even rhodey didn't show any emotions when his best friend Tony stark died and at his funeral

to add on as well, why would he be taken during civil war. Gravik's plan didn't start until after Endgame so there would be no point in taking him during Civil War.

Gravik died because his heart was completely vaporized. A stab, he healed. A shot to his face, he healed. The brain and the heart are the weak points but they have to be destroyed. Ironman did the same move in Ironman 3 with his chest repulser completely destroying the guys chest in the plane.

This show was bad with not sticking to the themes and not even wrapping up what fury was supposed to do for the Skrulls. It just ends with it feeling like episode one and the last fight scene….omg if you think that’s exceptional then grow up and stop watching this garbage you call entertainment

@@QuickThekidd I mean these were well beyond normal Super Skrulls if they had anything like the powers of the names listed. There's like a half dozen ways Gravik would have survived that attack and we saw a couple of them in action like Extremis healing and Ghost phasing. Nevermind things like Groot being able to grow back from just a head within minutes.
IMO, I think they made Rhodes in a hospital gown to show that is how they were able to grab him, when he was vulnerable and probably unable to fight. If they tried to grab him at any other time he would obviously be able to fight them off, hence why they were not able to grab any other powerful heroes or avengers and only grab Ross and maybe a sleeping Rhodey in a hospital. It also makes sense because he is partially crippled and unable to walk without his robotic legs, making him an easy target if he’s in a hospital or without them
Plus if you pay attention there he tries to move his legs to walk so likely he thinks he can, maybe he thought the braces were on still. I think the Skrulls took his leg braces just in case. He was an avenger so even if he woke up he couldn't move.
Might have been when he went in for that final surgery, either something Wakandan or alien medicine, that he was sure would completely heal him and now he wakes up years later.
Why else would they put him in a hospital gown if not to represent that that is when he was taken

Giving on how there were 6 episodes of Invasion which is more than 3 hours all together I highly doubt that, even also with the amount of actors/actresses, development & animation/cgi that's needed. Plus it's more better to focus around on Fury to have his own stand alone series much like Loki.

Rhodey was taken some time after Sam returned Captain America's shield. After the ceremony, they were talking in the Captain America exhibit area. Most likely, this was still the real Rhodey. The evidence is that he's still wearing his leg braces. You couldn't see the lights of the leg brace that well because he wore them underneath his military uniform. It was lightly lit through the side of his pants.
Actually, I don't think he was wearing the braces in that scene. I noticed that right away and thought it was odd that they forgot to put Rhodey in the braces. I think he got replaced sometime after Endgame but before Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

I think Rhodey went to get his legs fixed (some sort of surgery). That's probably when he got swapped. That would explain the hospital gown and also why noone bats an eye when he was walking normally.
In all fairness, we don't know why he was wearing a hospital gown. Men in his age need a lot of medical check up
Black Panther takes places straight after Civil War, and in that movie Everett Ross takes a bullet to the spine, and they have the technology to fix him.... and Wakanda only really started opening up after that, so for him to get fixed later down the line does make sense.
Extremis would be able to heal him.

In Endgame when Rhodey talks to Nebula she says “I wasn’t always like this.” And he says Me neither… but we work this what we got. It’s probably post civil war but I like to think once Spider-man “killed” Mysterio and they came for Stark tech they swapped Rhodey. It’s probably the only reason he was allowed to keep War Machine.
It happened after the Endgame. Gravik’s plan started after the Blip. Also Rhodes magically healed from TFAWS.
We can see his brace lights showing through his pants in TFAWS.

I was also thinking they grabbed him immediately after Endgame because there was so much in disarray. It would be easy to find a distraction with so much going on with rebuilding and clean up and people likely wearing hazmat suits.
I pointed out the leg braces as well. But good point on Gravick working for Fury during endgame
You gotta appreciate the Skrulls keeping their prisioners so well groomed. For someone who was "captured a long time ago", Rhodey is looking slick 😅.

I love how Giah played up the radiation sickness Fury would experience at the compound, just to have everyone else at the end be unfazed by it. The rescue team didn’t wear hazmat suits or anything
The all could have been the good skrulls who did not agree with graviks plan, taking the form of humans as not to freak out the victims.
@@the_robcat I assumed that's what they were, otherwise the only locals you're gonna be dealing with are Russians given where the camp was. And the geopolitics of the show at that time where WW3 was about to happen that would be a potentially serious event best avoided.

I mean sure but the giger counter needle was still pinned to the right when G'iah pulled it out. That was not to fool Gravik; that was done to tip us the viewers, off. But a giger counter doesnt lie so there's no point to make it to. No way Gravik saw that he was inside not outside. So it was just a rushed scene where they were too lazy to get hazmat suits. No one in their right mind would enter an abandoned nuclear power plant without protection and it was understood previously by all that it was a no go zone because of that.
I’m willing to bet that immediately after Endgame. Like maybe Rhodes was trying to get some surgery to fix his legs and that’s when they caught him

6:07 You can see the glow from the leg braces through his trousers in the clip from Falcon & WS. He's still wearing them, just under his clothes.
6:05 It looks like he *could* still be wearing the braces *under* his clothes during Falcon & the Winter Soldier. There seems to be a light under his trousers in the same places as the braces.

This is the video I was waiting for someone to make. Rhodey is the only story I cared about the whole Secret Invasion, Thalos died for nothing, Maria Hill got killed because of Nick Fury’s disregard. The British lady was shooting skrulls left and right except when she really had to and the Super Skrulls were so good at their recent acquired powers that the show is asking too much for me to believe that they could learn to use them right away (specially Mantis “sleep”. Anyhow, I was one of those people that was thinking civil war because of the gown and also on the scene that Rhodey suggest getting Thanos as a baby and kill him in my opinion that wasn’t Rhodey like. But maybe he went on an appointment to check about his braces right after Tony’s funeral. Hopefully they’ll use some of the budget of the movie to explain that and the consequences of that when it comes to him.

I feel like this is what happened.
After Endgame and becoming the President’s personal side guard he had to get surgery so he wouldn’t need his leg supports. A leg implant. During this surgery under anesthesia, Skrulls raided in and took Rhodey.
Because wouldn’t it be weird for people like Sam Wilson or other Avengers to not seem why Rhodey doesn’t need his leg supports? When he already has had recent surgery so he wouldn’t need them.
You are right but he was wearing the leg braces underneath his pants when he spoke to Sam at the museum.
But he could still have an operation done after that which everyone then assumed he got healed.
Wakanda for instance has advanced medication and T'Challa did create outreach programs in the West, so its not without the realm that he wouldnt have built some hospitals; also Korea has advanced science (Mrs Cho who helped built Vision); any of those two coulda helped Rhodey later. Also, Rhodey coulda gone to Kamartaj as well and get healed through magic (or better yet, just say he did)
He wouldnt have been copied until after Endgame. After the initial attack on Avengers compound Rhodey has to eject from his suit when pinned down, and is forced to crawl away with his arms because of his spinal injury. This is done in frame with nobody else present, point being he wouldnt have had to fake it if he was a skrull.
Both Rocket and Hulk are in the area with him. Bruce yells “Rhodey, Rocket get out of here!” And he has crawl over to help Rocket.

It's true. You can see the light from his braces through the pants when he is talking to the Falcon. He was switched after the events of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Yeah, I think it would be very cool if the Skrulls tried to use Rhodey suit but the suit wouldn't recognize them as the owner, even though they could change DNA. It just shows that Tony's suit is advanced enough to detect such changes.
Yeah agreed. And even if Tony wouldn't have figured it out, we still have Vision who 100% would have noticed.
4:05 Skrulls *can* bleed red somehow while in human disguises (look at Ross in ep1, or Sonya's interrogation scene in ep 2). Their blood only turns purple once they're dead/ have something severed from their body.
Sonya though was able to later make wounds that could show a Skrull like when she shot her boss

@@lightdarksoul2097 Yeah, that's my point, there isn't some special Skrull bullet, Sonya just did damage that couldn't be ignored, and dropping a building on him would have made him change back if he was a Skrull. He even blacked out for a bit.

I wonder when coming to the surface from the basement, why didn't the people released by Gai'a have any reaction or at least cough in that level of exposure of radiation ? They were kept hostage under the radiation plant, so they must have still be at the area, right?

They were either farther away from the reactor than we realized when Gi'ah snuck through that hall before, or they were injected with something to protect them while they were in stasis, since it wouldn't make any sense to keep them for information and then let them die of radiation.

Another small detail is that in iron man 3 tony says the suits are biometrically locked to the user I would assume that might’ve carried over to future suits so if a skrull were to take Rhodes’s body before endgame he wouldn’t be able to use the suit
I *really* hope Rhodey hasn't been a Skrull for longer than Falcon & Winter Soldier.
It would suck if they robbed him of all his character development and important/ emotional moments up to Endgame 3:09. Not to mention, it seems like Gravik only came up w/ his plan to replace ppl after Endgame, when he thought Fury abandoned them.
It would also be hard to believe that Raava was acting like Rhodey for all that time, especially when she seemed acted so out of character/ blatant in this episode.

The braces are NOT MISSING in Falcon and the Winter Soldier!!!! They're still there, just inside his pants, possibly since he's in uniform.
Look closely and you'll see the blue lights very faintly shining through the fabric at the right spots.

It would be after endgame. Most likely at a hospital visit that would explain not needing the braces anymore for the skrull that took his place. (lure him in with the promise of walking unaided again)
Yeah…I think the leg brace is the clue of when he became a Skrull. He had to be captured soon after Endgame because there was no reason for him to be captured before then.
Also War Machine is only compatible to Rhodey. Tony Stark is a genius not to noticed this one.
@@Ccm2019 There is also the anomaly of Vision and Spider-Man to take into account. Both of them would have 100% sensed something was off with Rhodey if he was a Skrull before Endgame (Especially Vision, since he monitored Rhodey after his injury because he felt guilty).

Between Endgame and the Falcon/Winter Soldier series, Rhodes went into the hospital for some treatment to probably fix his legs. Surely they have the tech to fix him now which is why Ravaa hasn’t bothered with wearing leg braces and nobody hasn’t even commented that he/her has legs that work again. BOOM!
Rhodes was wearing the leg braces underneath his pants when talking to Sam but I wouldnt be surprised if the Secret Invasion director/writer Ali Salim overlooked that and Kevin Feige was too busy preoccupied with other things to notice as well and correct him
I still believe Rhodey was nabbed after Endgame though.

I’m so glad you mentioned the lack of support around his legs in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So many videos I’ve watched never mention that.
I did a quick search of images of Rhodey in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, in one of them, there seems to be lights under his pants where the walking rig he had seem to shine through.
He literally is wearing them under his pants in Falcon and Winter Soldier. You just saved me from watching this trash video.

He was grabbed during Falcon and Winter Soldier. I thought it was weird during Fal and WS that Rhodey no longer had his braces, and at the time I thought it was a plot leak, but now I realize that he was actually a Skrull then. So he has been a Skrull since that show which makes sense because he couldve had a checkup and x-rays on his legs after the events of Endgame to see if he sustained anymore damage to his legs and is where he was abducted and the imposter took over. To me its pretty clear.

Fury said that Gravik lead the team for the harvest after the battle of earth. So Gravik and the Skrulls were still working for Fury at that point. Therefore there's no reason for a skrull to take Rhodey's place prior to endgame

Gravik shows himself to be not entirely motivated by the well being of his people. He could have been planning away ahead of the blip. And Rhodey being compromised is a heck of an opportunity.
That's the twist. The invasion has been happening for longer than we thought. Just because he was still working for Fury doesn't mean he wasn't plotting against him. THINK!

Pretty great show. I wish the reveal was saved until the last episode to raise the emotions. Could’ve had Fury (somehow) fight against Rhodey in the War Machine suit. Rhodey could’ve came out the shadows like Darth Vader lol. That would’ve been cool and would’ve had a similar reveal as in the comics

I continue to believe they took Rhodey from the hospital at the end of Civil War. If you go back through the series, you see that when shapeshifter Skrulls are still alive, their blood is red. It's only when they die that their blood is purple. You don't have to look any further than the episode one intro with Ross. He is clearing bleeding red blood while suffering from injuries during the chase with Talos.

I don't know. Gravik's planning was started around the Blip so why would they replace a guy that was on Nick's side. Ross seems to not be all that confused so he at least wasn't taken that long ago. You'd think he'd be one of the first since he was close to Wakanda and Skrulls would see them as a huge threat

Again, why would they snatch him when they were still working for Fury? Still believed in him until he left after Endgame? Gravik is the one who had him swapped and he looked up to Fury until he felt betrayed/ Also makes no sense to snatch James back then and not say Stark, who is way smarter.

From Iron Man 3 they did say Extremis people can die by heat incineration or if they’re badly wounded to continue to injure them. So I’m betting that proton blast from G’iah just incinerated Skravick. 1:27

He was. You can see the blue lights of the leg braces faintly shining through the fabric of his pants in the scene. In fact that scene is included in this video, and you can see it if you look carefully at his thigh

Holy shit you blew my mind, I didn't realize that about the blood, also I thought about vision who definitely would've noticed that Rhody was different.
I thought the hospital gown was supposed to indicate CW. But I like the theory that it couldn't be until after Endgame because of his blood. Though they do go back and recolor things like the Statue of Liberty in Ms Marvel when fans point out its wrong.
Rhodey does seem to have some kind of light up "braces" UNDER his pants in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But they had always been over his clothing before that. I think that is sus because Tony was building the braces for him and they got better AFTER Tony died?

5:49 i dont understand the upset over after civil war taking of rhodey. What character development are yall talking about? There was no notable change in rhodey. We dont know whats been going on with him since the death of tony. Last time before this we saw rhodey was in fatws. If anything, having it this way would give them some room to show real growth and more time to see rhodey deal with the death of tony in armor wars. Instead of the seconds to minute long goodbye on the battlefield we got and the seconds to minute long consoling from happy we got at the funeral. Personally, i want more time with rhodey dealing with the death of tony and seeing where he goes from that, than what we have with the opposite assumption.
here’s the thing. in avengers endgame, when rhodes was trying to save rocket from drowning. he was BLEEDING RED, not purple. so hopefully there’s some other explanation for that

The lights from the braces are shown thru the pants on the clips from tfatws I think he just got an upgrade where the braces are worn under the clothes instead of on top

Varra found Prescilla at a hospital, probably the best place for a skrull to find identities. Which means that warehouse full of human bodies likely pales in comparison to those that died and were taken over, unbeknownst to anyone
Yeah, Vision is the problem here. Rhodey cannot simply have been taken before Endgame, since that creates a lot of plotholes.
One point of contention is that Rhodey actually is still wearing his leg braces in Falcon-Winter Solder. Go back and check the scene again. If you look closely you can clearly see the blue glowing lights are visible under his baggy uniform pants.
