    Detroit Truetrac amzn.to/3Lr8FaD
    The Truetrac is a helical gear limited slip differential, not a “locker”. The Truetrac operates by transferring power from the spinning wheel to the wheel with the most traction. If one tire breaks traction, the amount of rotation (or spin) is controlled by transferring the lost traction to the higher traction wheel. The Detroit Truetrac operates on the principle of "torque biasing”: the typical Truetrac aftermarket differential will consistently deliver approximately three-fold the torque of the slipping wheel to the gripping wheel.

    I have one in the rear of my '99 Toyota 4Runner. I haven't used it for rock-crawling where a person might have a wheel off the ground, but it definitely works on snow, ice, loose gravel, sand, etc.
    I think of it like an "anti" differential. It's a differential, but it's sending torque to the path of MOST resistance. The Truetrac is designed to send power to your slower wheel, whereas an open-diff sends torque to the faster wheel (ie. the path of LEAST resistance).

    The Truetrac is the diff 90 percent of off-roaders need 90 percent of the time. Locking diffs are great but they're very binary -- all or nothing. The Truetrac's torque transfer is more analogue which is also more forgiving on axle parts. Quiet, easy to drive on pavement and uses plain old 80W90, it's a really good compromise.

    I’m a firm believer in a limited slip for the rear. People don’t realize that they really only have one wheel drive without some kind of a limited slip differential. I was really surprised to see the jeep had an open differential in the back. I realize people install lockers and such, but even stock I would want some kind of limited slip

    I really like the old 14 Bolt axles! I installed a "Detroit Locker" in my last work van and frankly?? In snow and ice it was not very good! ..On trials and off road (I sever remote areas) it was great, even mud fine!! ... but winter use It's like locking up to often too much.
    I'm DEFINITELY trying the Detroit / Eaton Truetrac in this van!! My new van has a 12,000 lb GVW ... same style 14 bolt rear end with duals, It's a bit harder to install than a DL .. but I'm sure I can handle it, one thing with the 14 bolt NO SHIMS!! : )

    I love Detroit Truetracs. I ran them front and rear on my '99 TJ and front and rear on '13 Sahara. I have had zero issues with them and I highly recommend them especially for your daily driver/ weekend warrior. The only thing I would ever change would be using an OX locker in the front. I just bought a 2012 Toyota Tacoma for my DD/work truck and I will be installing a Truetrac in it.

    Actually looking at replacing the old Clutch Style with this in my Blazer, I can actually use Low Range in the transfer case Without the front wheels being engaged as the front locks up by a Cable ran into a locking T-Handle on the Dash. Front Diff has a locker in it as well. Reason I didnt switch yet was because of people complaining that the TrueTracs are about worthless Offroad or in Deep snow.

    They seem like a very robust design. I opted for a disc based LS for my CJ5 (rear) because it seems like the tru-trac would be more suitable for vehicles with an automatic trans. I didn't want to have to ride my brakes while wheeling to get the extra traction. A disc based system doesn't require that. I do like the tru trac concept though.

  • @MotoGPatrick
    @MotoGPatrick 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    On newer vehicles that have the brake traction control... That brakes a spinning wheel to tranfer tq to the other. These are even better. The traction control kicks in less often. than with an open differntial and if a wheel lifts and spins the rig will automotically apply the brake to the spinning wheel.

    Unlike an open diff in a wrangler, it will make the front driveshaft turn when in 2wd. So if you have any issues you will know it from the vibration. I personally prefer my transfer case to not be turning 100% of the time. But otherwise I do like the tru-trac.

    • @colechalmers5023
      @colechalmers5023 ปีที่แล้ว

      Man you have that very wrong! Only unlocked hubs would prevent the drive shaft from spinning . Nothing to do with the carrier

    • @dougbrook6223
      @dougbrook6223 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Cole Chalmers yj wranglers have a split axle. So when in 2wd the spider gears turn rotating the axle that isn't locked opposite rotation. So open diff=no driveshaft spin. (Or ring and pinion) install a true-trac and I assure you that it does spin all of it because you no longer have the spider gears.

    • @hotrodray6802

      2) Clutch posi have springs compressing the discs. Always a drag between wheels. Both off the ground, turn one wheel and the other turns the same way👍
      Truetrac with both wheels up, if you turn one wheel the other turns opposite like an open diff. Locking bias only happens when you apply power against tire resistance.
      Hence the apply light brake advice.
