I remember back in the 90's I was transitioning from relaxer to natural. My hairdresser would only press my new growth. With time and patience all the relaxer grew off. No need to cut off hair. Right now I go back and forth from pressing and then natural styles. Gives hair a break from the heat. The key is a good hairdresser that knows how to take care of hair.
We don't need chemicals, we know better now. Our own hair is so beautiful. I'm so glad I let go of the "straight hair standard" and discovered myself. It was hard, I was criticized by some of my own people. I could even tell that though the brotha's may have thought it was cute, they were just used to it being straight. 3 years later it's so long and the curls are elongated themselves because of the length, and the heavines of the weight. Those awkward phases are over and I am now bsl. I along with others never imagined it could look like it does? It is truly our crown and glory.
This!! I never had a relaxer until I was 16 and put it in my own head. My hair was almost waist length and eventually broke off to my shoulders. When I stopped relaxers and would wear my curls out so many older woman would tell me “ I need to do my hair” 🙃 I had my son when I was 22 and stopped relaxers for a few years and then started back again when I was like 28 smh. I’ve stopped again and haven’t had one in about 2 years. And I’m officially never going back. I haven’t seen my curl pattern in so long and my hair is almost back waist length, it was the best decision I’ve made!
My hair was like that before I cut the relaxer out. Like my grandma did my relaxers and didn’t realize that you put it all over the hair once but every new growth she would reprocess all of my hair again but when I turned 17 I did the Rihanna cut to get rid of the relaxer and my hair grew out long and healthy.
My mom started relaxing my whole head every so many weeks because after a few weeks the whole head never looked relaxed. Eventually I just went back to natural
I guess because I’ve been blessed with a head full of coarse hair, relaxers haven’t did much damage to my hair. However I haven’t relaxed in 10 months due to the fact that I’ve been going back and forth about going natural. I think I’ve honestly decided against it but I definitely won’t relax as much as I did when I was younger. Maybe about twice a year. Her hair is absolutely beautiful, I LOVE IT!!! Some people hair just don’t do well with relaxers so you have to do what’s best for you. Dealing with my hair without my sew-ins or braids have made me miserable lmao. Keep up the great work hun.
A good in-between is a silk press by a stylist that knows what they're doing. I've been having this done for years. No relaxer needed. Touch up with a good flat iron at home. Then when you're tired of straight hair, add water and voila back to natural! Going every 2 weeks to a good stylist that can do silk press or natural styles is great for hair upkeep.
It's true. Some people's hair flourishes with a relaxer and some hair simply cannot tolerate the chemical. I'm one of those people whose hair flourished whether I relaxed it or stayed chemical free. Been going back and forth since I was 12 years old and now I'm 50, never had issues with growing thick, long, healthy hair either way. It really just depends on how you take care of your hair as well as genetics. Some people hate that genetics play a part in how much hair we have but it does.
Her hair broke off from not getting relaxers that's why the relaxer portion is as thin as it is. If you wait to long in-between touch ups your hair will start to brake off because of the different textures. A relaxer does give the appearance of thinner hair but baby thats breakage
Girl you read my mind lol. I'm like, does the beautician not know what transitioning hair is and how it gets that way? That's breakage from the natural hair being so tight and kinky, it makes the relaxed hair break at the line of demarcation. If her entire hair was relaxed and she had not been "going natural" her hair relaxed would've looked a lot healthier. It's the transitioning process that breaks the hair off
What I do for my hair at night is use a lose scrunchy and put a pony tail in the middle of my head and wrap with a silk scarf. Also sleep in the cool. Or you can wrap your hair, like back-in-the-day, add a few bobbi pins to hold and wrap with silk scarf. To touch up I use a Chi flat iron. You can straighten your roots and hair with this and add curls to your hair or not. When I exercise I do a high ponytail so it won't touch my neck. Any touch ups to the roots I use the Chi iron. Be sure to know the resilience of your hair so you won't burn it with the flat iron. I use the high temp because my hair is very thick and course. Start low temp and work your way up to see what temp straightens your hair. I use a Chi with digital numbers. I go to stylist every 2 weeks because my hair gets too oily and curls won't hold.
When my hair is straight I wrap it up and put a scarf on. I do that when I’m about to shower to out if it’s raining. I all try not to straighten in the spring/summer to avoid humidity and frizz
Do stylists know how to do natural hair or is relaxed/ tex hair easier? I ask because my stylist has been wanting me to chemically straightened my hair claiming it would make my natural hair more manageable for a few years now.
I mean if you do you won’t be natural anymore but if you want to stay natural you should go to a natural hair specialist or stylist in your area if that stylist is unwilling to deal with your natural hair like you want
Find another stylist that knows what they are doing. Yes, there are stylists that know how to do natural hair. I've known 3. One of which I go to currently every 2 weeks. Knows how to take care of hair also. I sometimes get natural hair ideas by googling, or my own ideas or her own ideas. It gets creative and we're open to trying different styles. It takes time sometimes to find the right stylist.
So what is the guidelines transitioning from an s-curl I am six months no chemicals someone please give me answers at what point can I have my hair blown out and curled with a flat iron
Find a good stylist that can assist you. With me transitioning from a relaxer to a press years ago, the stylist would condition my hair, comb it out into sections then plait and stick me under the hair dryer. Keeps the stylist from having to pull so much with the hand dryer. Then finish it by using the hand dryer. Then a press and style. It also depends on the sensitivity of your hair. Also natural styles, such as natural updos, would be great if you want to grow most of your s-curl off before doing a silk press. The key is a good stylist, at least go every 2 weeks, conditioning and keeping hair moisturized.
say it- relaxed hair is unhealthy! am facing the same situation as your client and just wonder why it has taken me this long to awaken to the fact that i should never have used relaxers..
@@canigetit2008 i felt it unhealthy putting chemicals that most often burn ur scalp when u put it in ur hair (surely even u would admit there is something wrong here. its ur hair tho, do what u want with it). dat and i also felt it unhealthy that in my 30s i didnt know the real texture of my hair
You right lol idk why people even try to make it seem like permed hair can ever be healthy. I’m sorry ain’t nothing healthy ab destroying your curl pattern w chemicals. Even if it is long
ha, my Mother/Sister and i have thick course hair that's been relaxed for years and it is still healthy though my Mom transitioned to natural when she retired. we all have healthy heads of hair, as long as you take care of it, treat and moisturize regularly your relaxed hair will be fine. Too much weaving is way worse for your hair

personally, I didn't like the way the hairdresser was handling her hair and she looked like she didn't either.

Why must you tell the internet your life story?
When i had relaxed hair, it was healthy though. Try to not put relaxer on already relaxed parts of the hair, when doing touch ups

Her hair grew very fast.
Gorgeous!!!!!!!
I remember when I went natural, my hair wasn't as long but I waited an entire year before I cut the rest of the relaxer out

Touché. I was like what is this lady talking about. Beautiful hair though
Stop hating. Her relaxed hair was not broken off at all. It was thick from root to tip after the stylist straightened it.
Rose Jackson there is definitely something wrong with your eye's, but here is some glasses and a book 👓 📖!
Badmind! The lady hair is very healthy from root to tip
Beautiful!
Would have loved to see the entire video, how you styled it, and all.
Gorgeous
I’m about to transition like this.
Beautiful it was short you tube video. but you did a very good job on her hair full volume now.
Im glad my mom does hair
I would love to see her hair now
You did a great job
You did that simply gorgeous
I’m thinking about going natural but I’m scared 😟
Looks fantastic
Great job!
Beautiful hair
I know this video is old but I’m in that exact same process at this moment. What type of conditioner do you use? And what serums
😍😍😍 beautifulll
Beautiful 😍!
3 week silk press?! I can't get 3 days out of mine 🤣😭
Man… her natural hair is 20 times better than the relaxed hair… like night and day!
After all the hair was flat ironed, there literally was no difference between the textures! All her hair was beautiful.
How long has she been transitioning & also her hair is beautiful👍❤❤it🙏🙏🙏
What is required to do at home to keep up for 3 weeks? Does she wrap it at night? What about when exercising? This is beautiful

Man she might as well stop holding on to those dead ends. She has so much new growth. Just cut it. It will grow back even faster.
Omg it looks so good. Who disliked this?
Most beauticians would have cut her hair
What's the name of the hair dryer your using?

Why is her natural hair so dry looking? Is that from the relaxer growing out?
