Great content. I am enjoying catching up on older videos since finding this channel. I cringed every time he reached between that rear armored plate and the hull. Especially when he stuck his face in there. I certainly wouldn't have without at the very least blocking and a chain or cable tied off someplace solid. When that hinge broke away and the plate fell on the ground, I was hollering at the screen, "That is a perfect example why!" Never forget you are the softest / squishiest tool in the shop.
Imagine the look on the face of some soviet engineer back in like the 50's if you told them that one day some British farmer would be working on one of their tanks with American tools made in China.
Imagine being a Soviet conscript in pre-war USSR as a T34/85 crewman. Right off the farm, maybe this crewman has some experience with a tractor if the farm/collective he was raised on was lucky enough to have one, and was trained to service it. Now imagine your tank and crew has been assigned to a regiment in Siberia and it's January. Yes the engine has a poor man's EGR but the more practical use is as a fast motor warm-up setting for those icy cold start-ups and quickly put some heat in that iron igloo.........you'd be very thankful. these tanks were designed to be operated by troops with little training and maintained using readily available materials.
Just what i imagined, asbestos gland packing I remember seeing bobbins of that in the stores when I started as an apprentice diesel fitter in the last 70s
BLOODY HELL GUYS WHATS GOING ON HERE !! Are you guys buying up EVERY bloody tracked Vehicle the country ?? Lol GREAT to see you have your own little show .. keep up the great work!!
I think your exhaust cable shoots a shot of air into the filter to clear dust or something to do with the battle lever and increasing manifold pressure maybe idk
I've seen a couple comments about it bit it really is crazy to think about the soviet mechanics and engineers that put these things together and fixed them out in the field back in the day. It's crazy now a British farmer and is fixing it in his back yard
I have heard that the soviet command put immense pressure on the T-34 production factories to produce as many tanks as fast as possible (or else). Quite often corners had to be cut to reach production quotas so war era T34s are renown for have all sorts of serious production defects. Given that the soviets mainly only exported T34's built during the war i wouldnt be shocked if you came across a few surprises.
The Soviets didn't export tanks in WWII... everything was in critically short supply and stayed home to fight the Germans. Canada, the UK and the USA shipped millions of tons of food, tanks, vehicles, radios and other equipment to the USSR to help them fight and keep the Germans distracted by trying to operate on two fronts.
@@majmikecalnan Indeed.... and when world war 2 ended the demand for T-34s dried up but due to the soviet economy production could not stop. T34s producted after the war were of notably higher quality than those made during the war. The USSR decided to keep its best stock of new T34s for the red army in Russia. The less reliable wartime produced T34's were sent to the other soviet republics as well as exported to other communist countries like china and north Korea.
This guy is exactly how i would turn out if i was minted. From him being northern and his love of cider to his worryingly high obsession with war machines
Loving these videos, but by the balls and bones of all the dead gods, the music playing over the timelapse of you taking the bolts out of the exhaust covers and such makes my killswitch flip. 🤣
If that rope is what I think it is it has wax infused into it to help it’s what the old ford model As or Ts used for the water pump packing to keep it from leaking if the rope is what I think it is
Loving the videos and ngl your editing skills are much better than matts ! Hope you two are still talking! He’s been quite on socials recently! Keep up the good work!
Thank you but, all the edits on here are done by my buddy Lee. Of course I’m still talking to mat he’s part of the furniture around here! well you got to remember mat hates people so every now and again he like a social break to prevent killing anybody 🤣
Heyyy I wanted to see those broken welds!! Yes, I am a welder myself :DD Any idea what the flanges on the exhaust pipes are? I dont think I've ever seen those before.
How much asbestos is in these things? Like that cord around the pipe I thought might be made of asbestos. Better be careful to not breath any dust from it in.
Does the exhaust outlet have a venturi in it, so that when the gases leave the exhaust pipes it creates a vacuum and draws loose dirt and dust out of the air filter ??
Do you know the provenance is the tank? Done of those 'bodges' could be field mods done by some Russian engineer using whatever he had to hand to keep one more tank in the field.
Gees!, if you blokes do your usual quality resto on this beastie! The Russians will be demanding it back so they can use it in Ukraine!. 🤣🤣 On ya!. Maddog, Melbourne Aus. 🍺🍺
Want to see you do a bit of welding on ur show i would start by putting an eyelet on rear engine hatch that way when putting back on you safely have a easy lift point.snookie pa.💥👍🤪😜🖐💥
Chances are whoever stole your tools follows your channel. I was taught long ago that it's usually someone you know that steels from you. Get a camera that links to your phone. I'm currently using trail camera
Like sub and comment. I had to this is cool. How about finding the history of certain equipment you work on that would be pretty cool . This way the viewers can research off your research . Where all nerds and nerds like to learn we need input
You want me to believe you make a living doing this and don't know how to use an adjustable wrench?? The jaw is only pushed on never pulled like you used it
What's with the really tacky Mr Hewes doodle in the bottom right of the screen and in the intro. Are you appealing to 5 year olds ? the old format was better, simples...

Lol
I don't wanna be that guy

Wouldn't it be the 40's?

Asbestos packing in the exhaust. Used extensively in older steam systems.
And it was asbestos related mesothelioma that killed Steve McQueen. Masks on please.
Just what i imagined, asbestos gland packing I remember seeing bobbins of that in the stores when I started as an apprentice diesel fitter in the last 70s
Can’t beat the hot spanner!
My master would've legit beaten me to death if he saw me sticking my head in between that back plate...
Still nice work chaps
I'm a big fan.
Thanks for all you and your mates do.
You really do have a knack for this!
I'm glad people are still working on these things. Gives me hope I can own one someday lol. I wish

Fixing them up, while battle rages all around

Nice intro, great video as ever - thankyou

100% watch time here as always.
Loving these videos, but by the balls and bones of all the dead gods, the music playing over the timelapse of you taking the bolts out of the exhaust covers and such makes my killswitch flip. 🤣
That weird seal is probably asbestos string.
Il try remember not to snort it
Thinking the same.
good content mate , love to see the ol girl up and running.
Seen others lighting a welding/cutting torch. They hold the tip against a surface at about 45 degrees as they bring the oxy in. seems to work.
I had an old golf that had pipe comin from around exhaust taki g hot air into intake it was warm air induction to improve fuel economy
Howdy from the Northwoods of Minnesota, Love and Respect All.
I've always been drawn to tanks
Hi there, I really like your videos . I think your next project should be an AS90 it would be a great video .
Keep up the good work many thanks Craig.
If that rope is what I think it is it has wax infused into it to help it’s what the old ford model As or Ts used for the water pump packing to keep it from leaking if the rope is what I think it is
That rope on the exhaust could be asbestos cord.
7:14 looks like "Heritage Packing" to me :P
is the exhaust part not to heat up the tank crew in cold weather like a VW beetle heat exchanger?
OUTSTANDING FUN !
Loving this Channel.
Exaust into the air cleaner is for cold starts.

@@MrHewes I agree with him on the hating people just wish I owned a tank or two to deal with them 😂 Glad he’s still around!
Wish I had one of them imagine pulling up at asda for the shopping
Great perseverance as always

To connect extensions for passing through water
@@MrHewes That makes sense. Oh and I got an video idea, do some farming with tanks. Like pulling a trailer full of bales or something like that.
@@Catrik ha I could do that
@@MrHewes are going to get some chrome tailpipes from Halfords or Demon Tweaks for the T34? ------ lol
Repair kit hammer and sickle da.
Got the same problems with the Lada!
5:28 What is the song?
What year of manufaturing this 34 ? and what factory ? STZ ? sorry for my english !
Nothing is too tight.... when its liquid.
How much asbestos is in these things? Like that cord around the pipe I thought might be made of asbestos. Better be careful to not breath any dust from it in.
Is this diverted exhaust back in the air cleaner meant to produce smoke screen or help in Russian cold weather?
Interesting 🧐
Does the exhaust outlet have a venturi in it, so that when the gases leave the exhaust pipes it creates a vacuum and draws loose dirt and dust out of the air filter ??
my guess is heat air entering the engine, engine smoke is typically made by spraying fuel into the exhaust
Diligent application of Vitamin H... works every time.
Do you know the provenance is the tank? Done of those 'bodges' could be field mods done by some Russian engineer using whatever he had to hand to keep one more tank in the field.
I drove those cvrt when I served

Looks Like an early day exhaust brake
That's what came to me too. Remember hiring a box van in the 80' s that had one.
What price do the cvrt start from?thanks
It can't be tight if it is liquid. Right?
new to these videos but what's with that music racket. Please leave it out.
How much ( dies CVRT ) ?
Do you own the vehicles that are in the yard waiting work? And do you own the recovered vehicles that have been sitting for years and neglected?
You mates have how many vehicles???
don't like to be a dobber but you are using the shifter spanner the wrong way around , 😊😊
I agree, lose the electronic "music". Also don't make it pretty, the patina makes it interesting. Longer episodes please and thanks.

It’s a tank not a boat !😮
Hey it can’t be tight if it’s liquid
Repair kit via late 1943.
smoke generator?
👍
eesh.. leaning in behind that rear plate only suspended by a shabby old bit of strap .. you have a lot more faith than i do
I think you inspired many Ukrainian farmers in the first months of the war… every farmer should have a Russian tank
Like sub and comment. I had to this is cool. How about finding the history of certain equipment you work on that would be pretty cool . This way the viewers can research off your research . Where all nerds and nerds like to learn we need input
I don't think good records exist for the T34s
😎👍
What I do not like is the fact they all have to rot outside......Aus Armour are lucky
Where the hell did this guy get his money? To be able to play with this stuff must mean he is rich beyond dreams.
Couldn’t you just do a compression test while the engine is still in the tank to determine if you have an internal problem?
Try not to bleed all over that extremely rare asbestos rope.
Love the music❤
Lose the music.
Bandage. Asbestos bandage…
What you call the core is called the armature
Or a commutator actually
Commutator is the brush gear at the copper end
Love the montage music!
Your use of the trusty adjusty offends me but it's great watching.
You want me to believe you make a living doing this and don't know how to use an adjustable wrench??
The jaw is only pushed on never pulled like you used it
Not a fan of the music or slow start.
I like your banter, information, and mindless drivel!
Great images and excruciatingly awful muzak, a suitable combo, best viewed with the sound off for the first 2 and last 5 minutes!
They have a T34 yet you bind some wires together to fit an exhaust on? Jesus Christ
What's with the really tacky Mr Hewes doodle in the bottom right of the screen and in the intro. Are you appealing to 5 year olds ? the old format was better, simples...
why are you making a new video?
The camera man need to learn how to zoom out
dump the crap music on the next vids for gods sake
