Sick Video! I used to rip down mountains like this when I lived in Japan. After a couple of nasty guard rail flip-overs and slide outs from moss-covered shaded hairpin turns over the years I just chill out now!
The issue is that one car hit will retire you from ever cycling at higher level, it's good to push yourself but not get crippled. That's the main reason I bought a turbo trainer. Cycling aggressively in the city is russian roulette
Dirt Mulholland! That area is made for gravel bikes. Rode my cross bike out there for years. Bayless to Nike towers then clockwise around eagle rock. Great video. Counter clockwise...... meh.
one of my fav routes in LA for dirt. you guys have about 15mph on me but made me feel a lot better hearing you call it sketchy. fwiw I've never made that damn right @ 21:50 without unclipping either
I find it fascinating how roadies on gravel tuck the bike into corners the way they are still on the road. If you look at how mountain bikers do it, we stand up stay vertical and only tilt the bike. I believe it makes it harder to wash out the wheels because then you are putting much less sideways force onto the wheels. Furthermore, you can flip the bike from one side to the other more easily.
On modern MTB, I feel you actually have to tuck the bike a bit or at least weight the front end. 29er wheels are a handful and require more body english.
@@icantgivecredit871 you're making me think I need more bicycles. My 29 is full suspension and prefers the steep technical bits to the flatter stuff. Maybe I should get a carbon 29" HT with 100mm forks just to conduct some experiments..
@@SteveLoughran I've tried to have fewer bikes, but the opposite happened. There's definitely no do-it-all as far as I'm concerned. I was eyeing the Specialized Epic HT (which is carbon and has a 100mm fork), but the price is eye watering. If that's not your cup of tea, I'd actually check out the previous model of Specialized Chisel HT. It's alloy, but it's super optimized. They released a new colorway and put the old bike on sale for 999 USD. The components are lame but for a grand it's an awesome deal. But if you're set on carbon and want something reasonably priced, maybe check out the Cannondale Scalpel HT Carbon 4. I was eyeing this one because it checks a lot of boxes and even comes with a SID fork. I think it's well under $2k on sale.
We have such good gravel in the western part of LA County. You're 100% right. Gravel should not be glorified road riding. It should have some tech. Not as much as XC mtb but enough to keep you on your toes. Some of those descents are sketch AF especially at the speed you guys were descending them. I would only say that you should've ridden MG trail in the beginning. It's awesome single track and perfect for a gravel rig once you get past the first rock garden :)
Continental Terra 45 mm in Canyon Grail that's officially meant for maximum 42 mm?🤔 I think I'm gonna try Continental Terra Speed 45 mm on my Canyon Grail.
Love your videos, especially the one with Pidcock. However, running stop signs and cutting off vehicles is one way all cyclist get a bad reputation. Having been hit head-on by a van, and at the fault of the driver, I can assure you it’s not worth the risks you are taking. Be safe.
Genuine question from a gravel virgin… what pedals do you use Brian, just normal flats with no clip-in? Also what camera are you using , go-pro on a chesty ? Awesome footage and supreme skills there.
@@williwacker2774 i’ve just googled a picture of those. I’m curious what’s the differences between clipping into them and clipping into road pedals? Thanks
@@manwithnoname6580 You can clip in from both sides. Now there's also a road pedal system you can clip into from both sides (Speedplay) but in general off-road systems are more robust and continue to work well after some dirt ingress. In addition it is much easier to walk with shoes prepared for offroad clipless pedals. The cleats you mount to the shoes are simply smaller. Road shoes and road pedal sytems on the other hand are lighter and some offer more customisability in terms of cleat positioning etc.
@@williwacker2774 Ah right, the ‘easier to walk in ‘ bit makes sense, I always wondered how the cyclo-cross riders run up hills or up steps on the course whilst wearing cleats . Thanks for the info
These are my local trails. Was riding my gravel bike until I got XC. The XC is sooo much more fun. Especially after the last 2 years that created lots of obstacles. That being said they just fixed most of the trail, at least in Sullivan and dirt Mulholland.
next time I want you to see on proper hardtails - long and slack - modern geometry - so you doesn't have to brake all the time - but shredding a full send
Why are you suffering? Enjoy your time in the saddle, turn by turn, the landscape, you get higher and higher and then you just let it roll, just let it roll, completely relax! 😎
Andrew Jackson feels so confident on his bike. Awesome to watch him on single tracks.
This looks SKETCHY and I LOVE it.
This view is awesome. Kinda looks like a 3rd person view of a cycling game.
DAMN. I hope I'll someday get to ride my gravel bike with half as much confidence and skill as these guys.
I get sweaty palms watching these videos
56 year old me looking at that power output! Holy crap fellas! AWESOMENESS!!!!! Time for my old ass to hit the gym and hills.
66 doing the same lol 😂
A great gravel ride. I could warm up a bit in the Californian sun.
This makes me want to live in LA so bad. Just for these type of trails.
More videos like this, please! I'd love to try riding places you do. Hopefully someday I'll made my way over there and do it. Cheers Brian!
HELL YEAH SAFA! What a ride! - I wish I did something like this before I swapped my gravel for the roadie
Woah that's amazing!!! Cheers to you guys, I enjoyed this a lot

Footage quality is insane! Keep it up and nice ride
Thanks!
Thank you!
Nice Canyon! Loving my Grail CF hover bar model. Now’s the weather to bring these out here in Europe.
The rain run off ruts⚡️ …a scenic detour if you take your eye off the prize
Finally!!! Gravel fun 🎉
Nice place to ride gravel! Were some dangerous speeds 😮😎
10:11= perfect spot to stop and spend some time enjoying the view
Нравится эти горы, шикарный спуск
Sicherheitsabstand! ❤😂
Nice Video in general but why would you drive so reckless inside the city? Thats just plain dangerous

"that one, they just fill it in and bury you right there" 😅
Mount Chiliad looking crazy these days

MG aka Car Crash is awesome but have already filmed it so figured we'd stick to the speedway for this one.
Nice one!
Wooow the weather change was impressive
Great to watch :)
am from ethiopia and i love your videos and hopefully i will do that one day
nice ride
Missed these. Thank you
Lesss go. Awesome video 👌🏻
only maniacs ride that with road pedals. maniacs!
Gravel is fun! Nice ride
Beeping is unauthorized " snacks" in the jersey.
Hey Brian, amazong footage. Did you record this video using the insta360 x4 or the insta360 ace pro? The images are fantastic good.
Awesome video. Gopro?
wow that GTA5 mod is so realistic.
which helmet model from giro is andrew rocking, looks nice?
LFG!!!
damn, nice work.
sick vid
i still dont understand gravel bikes..isn't that an mtbs job?
Insane views could sell my kidney to ride there
Holy Cow, Andrew Jackson is incredible! Does he have a YT channel?
That would have been way faster and comfortable on a xc bike. Lovely ride though. Cheers!
Actually slower. I ride xc bikes up here all the time.
@@SAFABrian Im not sure, it just looks to loose and uneven for the gravel, but hey, look is deceiving.
How can I do that edition putting the data according to the video lived?
What can i say... for that terrain and that speeds i prefer a mtb... those bikes looks beautiful but i dont know... Great videos!
RAD riding!!
360 cam would be super
How do you get the speeds and metrics overlay on your videos? Is that baked in from the bike computer or something?
Telemetry app
The overlays are created using an app called "gopro telemetry extractor" it won't let me post a link
How many PSI do they use in their tires on roads like these?"
Several times I thought it was a game
Some techy maneuvers going down

Glad I don’t have to clean those bikes.
what kind of camera do u guys use?

what wheels are on the scott?
Syncros Capital 1.0s
love graveling on those roads..altough I ride much safer :)
Looks good, but what's the air quality?
Pretty great
I am sweating.
Would be cool to see BPM on these steep rides

How far outside of LA is this? I’m assuming you have to jump in your car to get there.
No car needed, these are my local trails. Strava linked in description.
I’m still not sold on gravel bikes but this looked a lot of fun
Seeing Andre's heel almost touch the asphalt in a bunch of turns was giving me anxiety 😅
so scary 😱
There is something wrong with the speed. The values for mph are the actual values for kph
Put the pipe down, Anton
how can i show the speed and power and cadence like that?
This guy is brave with his white on white road fashion on gravel, especially when he whips by all those bushes which I'm sure will turn his kit green.
Came out looking good tho, only casualty was the sunglasses.
saddle looks a little high with all this hip-movement...
No doubt. Reaching like crazy at the bottom of the stroke.
cool, which camera is this?
😱
Their average is my top speed on my hard tail downhill lol
White shoes on the dirt lol
same route I take on GTA 5.
Cool vid, amazing roads. I always wonder who put the roads in there? Is it BLM land Brian?
RIP hips in 10 years damn. 🤔
Fuck it Cali is my dream
Views!
Better ones on top! 😀
This ride was so sketchy, I made an artpiece on my chair after I got up.
