Unfortunately the show failed to captured that moment spectacularly. It doesn't have the same impact from the game. My girlfriend who never play the game and watched the show first doesn't even feel anything towards that scene but when i show her the game cut scenses she can't stop crying because how it real the scene feels

The falling out between Joel and Tommy happened because after Sarah's death, Joel was suicidal and only kept from killing himself by focusing on taking care of Tommy. The best way to do that at the time, in Joel's admittedly hate-fueled mind, was to become a "Hunter" like the people that ambushed Joel and Ellie in their car. He "took care" of Tommy by doing terrible things to people, and it's from these experiences that he learned to be such an effective killer. We see a hint of this when Joel recognized that the guy doing the "help me" routine on the road wasn't actually hurt. Tommy, for his part, hated what they were doing. While he felt for Joel and missed Sarah, Tommy was also a wayward spirit that had his head in the clouds, always wanting to be a significant force for good in the world. At some point the two smuggled themselves into Boston where they met Marlene who was busy building up the Fireflies. The things she said were exactly what Tommy wanted to hear, and when he saw the contrast of people that wanted to help people rather than hurt them it was the breaking point. Tommy wanted to join the Fireflies and fight as something of a "liberator", and Joel wanted to protect Tommy. They had a fight, and Tommy left with Marlene. At some point though, Tommy became disillusioned with what the Fireflies were doing and he "quit" them too. Joel and his wife had Sarah when he was 20, and the game starts on his 32nd birthday. We don't know what exactly happened between Joel and his wife, but it's implied that she was just too young to unprepared to be a mother, and she walked out on them shortly after Sarah was born. We don't know too much about the Miller family before Sarah, but Joel's only notable help was Tommy. Otherwise, he was a single father. The Fireflies have been trying a lot of things to cure the infection. That's why their scientists were experimenting on monkeys, intentionally "infecting" them with the Cordyceps. The monkeys don't react the exact same way humans do, becoming carriers instead of the infected monsters. All the same they can infect people. That researcher was angry because he felt like he was the only one taking what they were doing seriously, and that the others were so nonchalant about experimenting on the animals. Unfortunately, one of the monkeys decided to bite.
Everyone talks about the scene in the townhouse between ellie and Joel, but I think it overshadows one of my other favorite scenes. The scene where Joel decides to finally take Ellie to the fireflies. There's SO MUCH said inbetween the lines of that scene. It's almost like what isn't said is more important than what is. Blows my mind everytime I watch it again. Joel doesnt say he's taking Ellie, he doesnt apologize, he doesnt say he changed his mind. You just. Know.
"Why'd you have to be like that, Joel...?" My take: When Joel snaps that Ellie isn't his daughter, he's acknowledging (perhaps subconsciously) that she's become exactly that. Up until that point, he's been pushing her away, so that he wouldn't become attached to her. This time it's different. This time he's pushing her away because he's starting to realise that he HAS become attached to her. Very different motivation. It marks a big turning point, not just in their relationship, but in Joel's coming to terms with Sarah's death.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen ANYONE miss the FlameThrower in the Garage but somehow you did so I never saw where it would spawn next so that was cool. Edit: Yeah it is kinda ridiculous how many guns Joel has at this point… Revolver, Handgun, Shorty, El Diablo, Bow, Rifle, Shotgun, Flamethrower.
Not gonna lie, i have played this game more than is healthy. And i watched a bunch of First Playthroughs over the last decade. But somehow, watching you experience this makes me feel like the first time again. Thank you from the bottom of my broken heart ;)
Great episode! The last line about joel saying he’s been on “both sides” of the hunter ambush, and the line with tommy of “we’re not back in Boston, if you lay your hands on me it won’t end well for you” Hint at Joel’s past misdeeds. He doesn’t want to lose another daughter so he’s afraid of attaching to Ellie. But he also wants something to fight for that makes all the horrible things he has done worth it.
Some tips (love your channel by the way!): Get the axes and machetes. They are one hit kill melee weapons. You can upgrade them with a shiv modification for even more one hit kills. And use your LISTEN button if you want to stealth! If 10 to 20 percent of your stealth time isn't in LISTEN mode, you're setting yourself up to be seen by a target you missed or lost track of. But, regardless, you are a great shot and your reactions make it almost feel like I'm playing the game for the first time again, which is great. Thanks for the content!

And as much as I am excited to watch you play part 2, which was even more emotional for me personally, I would also like to remind, that there is a DLC for part 1, which further explains the story of Ellie from around this part of the game (winter) and also the time shortly before Ellie met Joel. The listen mode is really helpful especially when trying to stealth, I can see progress in your stealth skills though, keep it up. Awesome playthrough your reactions are great much love
In my opinion that mechanic shouldn’t have been created, it takes away from the survival experience and realism of this universe. These characters are not superhuman or have tech to be able to see through walls so that’s why I like playing on higher difficulty, you really have to learn the pattern and listen carefully. Even if you don’t want a challenging experience because you are not very good playing on normal difficulty but with listen mode turn off is good.
In the last of us part 2 everyone seeks to forget who joel is. Comments like this from Tommy show exactly how he was. "I have nothing but nightmares about those days". Same as earlier when Joel and Ellie run into the buss trap and Ellie asked how Joel knew about the hunters traps. Joel says to her "I've beenbon both sides". Later she asked: "So did you kill lots of innocent people?" Joel just answers with a sigh. You can also see how people reacted when Joel & Tess came into scenes. Most respected them, knew not to mess with them.
I dont want to bash anyone, but sky keeps consistency even more than other content creators whose main job is this. Big props to sky, and thx for the content
i believe the names on the firefly pendants are names of some of the game developers + some time before releasing the game they did a competition for fans (to make a fanart or edit or something) and the winners got their names on the pendants :)
idk if anyone in the comments has mentioned this yet, but the dog you meet at 21:05 is actually named after Troy Bakers (Joel's VA) real dog that passed away a few years before the game released 😥

Regarding Mrs Miller/Sarah's mother: If you take your time searching the house in the intro, there's no trace of her. Would make sense that there'd be a photo if she passed away but seems more likely she left Joel. I doubt we'll ever get more information in the future. Also, there isn't any more plot about why Tommy and Joel fell out. As Tommy said, he didn't like robbing and murdering innocent people. He went off to join the fireflies, Joel didn't want the world to change so they went their separate ways. At some point Tommy decided that he could create his own civilised settlement, met Maria and together they rebuilt Jackson.

1:14:00 i killed the clickers lol and then i was too scared to kill the bloater😭🤣 so distracted the bloater and ran as fast as i could and got to the door, panicking, oressing the buttons fast 😭😂, and then i escaped 😅
Joel saying that was partially because of Sarah being brought up .. but also was him fighting himself one last time. He was throwing one last hail mary attempt and preventing this relationship from growing because he doesnt want to admit whats happening. He cares for her and he is scared of losing her now. Man walled himself off for years so loss of people wouldnt bother him. And the only people he did care about, Tess and Tommy he kept a distance with as to not let himself feel
Sky, did you ever play life is strange? The original game is one of my favorite games of all time. Of you never played it maybe you could consider it down the line
If you haven’t yet I’d recommend playing the Left Behind DLC right when it switches to winter! It puts the story together so better and it’ll be worth it in the end instead of doing it after.
“I wanna visit Colorado, does it actually look like this?” Yes, yes it does. If you ever visit I’ll take you to a beautiful spot in the mountains 💯 The University in this game is based off Colorado State University (my University’s rivals) and it does resemble it a lot, it’s pretty cool. There’s also another area a little later in the game that I think you’re past already and it also resembles one of the resorts we have here too. I love when games include my beautiful home state 🙏
How does everyone who I’ve been watching doing these play through’s miss that Joel’s trying to dump Ellie off on Tommy until Tommy says “I’ll take her to the Fireflies” and Joel says “it’s better this way”? What the hell did y’all think that they were arguing about? Tommy clearly says “I ain’t taking that girl off your hands” during the argument.🤦♂️🤣

It was already established at that point what Joel was trying to do but I’ve noticed a few reactors didn’t seem to realize it until the same point that you seem to, when you said “Wait, Joel’s isn’t going?”. Only thing I’ll say is that don’t upgrade the listen mode if you rarely use it 😂 I highly recommend it when you don’t know how many there are or where they are
Your journey wih Ellie started last spring and as u now know you just ended the episode in winter, so yeah several months have already past since the beggining of the game.
51:29 Joel was scared, its understandable, you don't want her to get hurt, you don't want to get hurt and its easier just to let go and move on. Of course he changes his mind because they have a real bond and I think it shows a lot about his character, that he can be a father again.
Joel wanted to get rid of ellie because he fears he gets attached to her like his daughter And seeing a second "daughter" die would've crushed him emotionally
Here are a few tips about Bloaters... their feet are unarmored and they are extremely weak against fire bottles combined with shotgun blasts to the feet. Another tip... those nail bombs... they are mines. They don't blow up until an enemy is on top of them. Also they don't react to friendlies.. so.. if they don't explode Joel can pick them up, after. Another note... nail bombs are the most powerful weapon that Ellie has in Part 2. Mainly because they screwed her over and gave all the good crap to Abby. sounds like an asshole? Sounds like Akihiko from Persona 3. And tons of other games.... like group leader of Ace Combat 5, for example (and every 3rd enemy in this game...) And I thnk maybe.... Spike from cowboy beebop. and the main character of big O. 1:39:16 lol at those rag doll physics. BTW: the DLC... picks up right here. So... if you want to do the DLC, now's the best time. Though...being that this was 6 days ago... I know u didn't do the DLC. lol.

If you haven’t yet I’d recommend playing the Left Behind DLC right when it switches to winter! It puts the story together so better and it’ll be worth it in the end instead of doing it after.
I think joel definitely spoke out of anger, we can all say things we really dont mean when emotions are high

The University in this game is based off Colorado State University (my University’s rivals) and it does resemble it a lot, it’s pretty cool. There’s also another area a little later in the game that I think you’re past already and it also resembles one of the resorts we have here too. I love when games include my beautiful home state 🙏

How does everyone who I’ve been watching doing these play through’s miss that Joel’s trying to dump Ellie off on Tommy until Tommy says “I’ll take her to the Fireflies” and Joel says “it’s better this way”? What the hell did y’all think that they were arguing about? Tommy clearly says “I ain’t taking that girl off your hands” during the argument.🤦♂️🤣

It was already established at that point what Joel was trying to do but I’ve noticed a few reactors didn’t seem to realize it until the same point that you seem to, when you said “Wait, Joel’s isn’t going?”. Here are a few tips about Bloaters... their feet are unarmored and they are extremely weak against fire bottles combined with shotgun blasts to the feet.
Another tip... those nail bombs... they are mines. They don't blow up until an enemy is on top of them. Also they don't react to friendlies.. so.. if they don't explode Joel can pick them up, after. Another note... nail bombs are the most powerful weapon that Ellie has in Part 2. Mainly because they screwed her over and gave all the good crap to Abby.
