  • Sitting in traffic, an E550 Coupe crawls onto the highway and parks just a few cars ahead and a few lanes over. It certainly is original looking, but you can't help but feel a little sorry for the folks at Mercedes. How can you compete with a car as beautiful as the Audi S5?

      Update: THE WORST car I have ever owned. 20000kms of sheer, unbridled misery.
      As of January 9, 2019, I have had the car for 165 days. 43 (and counting) of those days, the car has been off the road for repairs. That is 26% of the time I have had it.
      Check engine lights, misfires, random misfires, wheel bearings, fucked up repairs by audi, new battery, blown ECU, motor mounts, coolant bottle, new spark plugs, new coils (still misfires), proximity key sensors in both doors stopped working, audi doesn't update the nav on the older ones so that is useless as well. At the moment, with a blown ECU, I am staring down the barrel of a $2000 second attempt at a REPAIR. If that doesn't work, I am looking at $3000 plus tax for a replacement ECU.
      It gets the best fuel, the best oil, oem or better parts, rust proofed, fully detailed regularly, and, maintained by a shop that specializes in audis.
      So far, I have spent more on repairs, than I have paid off of the loan to buy this PIECE OF SHIT.
      I wouldn't take another audi (brand new, or used) if it was free.
      At this point, I can't wait to pay it off, so I can get rid of the fucking thing, as quickly as possible.
      Be warned!

      @@Kaiser911GT2RS 157000kms (97000 miles).
      As if today, I picked the car up 181 days ago. 59 have been spent in the shop. 32% of the time I have had the car. It coudln't be driven.
      Currently it is out of commission for a blown stock ecu. They attempted to fix it twice, and, it won't work. A new one is $2900. With the work they already did, plus the new one, and, programming it, I will be out roughly $5000. I haven't seen my car in 37 days now. They estimate it will be ready next week.
      The scary thing is; they don't know what caused it. It could blow another ecu ten minutes after I pick it up.
      It always has misfires, and check engine lights. I, and, the shop have gone through it with a fine tooth comb. There is no reason for it. Wheel bearings go frequently on these cars. My proximity door locks stopped working, randomly. Blind spot switches itself off at will. Codes, codes, errors, errors...it never ends.
      Can you afford to have a car that maybe works 68% of the time? Can you afford $3000 ecus, which the 4.2 S5's eat for breakfast? Can you tolerate a car that constantly has CELs on, random misfires, and, electrical gremlins? How about wind whistling from the windows, which don't seal? Navigation, they won't update? Keys that randomly de-program themselves?
      Audi themselves say they just guess at fixing them. They also love to say "we recognize there is a problem. We don't know how to fix it, and, we aren't going to try."
      These cars are beautiful, but, they are CRAP.

    @stackinbenjis What? V8 is 354hp and 325 torque. V6 is 333hp and same 325 torque and turbo lag. Not to mention no glorious V8 noise.

    • @pikachupowers
      @pikachupowers 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the v8 is amazing but tbh im not sure what i would take, both engines are good but i know the v8 is better. but Audi chassis simply cannot take the extra weight over the front axle, it is already unbalanced and prone to understeer with the v6 to begin with.
      also you truly do have no idea what you are talking about. the v6 makes max torque sooner then the v8. supercharged engines dont have "turbo lag" they dont have any lag at all. you sound like a moron

    • @GeekTherapyRadio
      @GeekTherapyRadio 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      analanalyst
      Childish name calling on TH-cam, that's a new one. Stay classy.
      But you're right, I don't know why I mentioned turbo lag in reference to a supercharger. I posted the comment at work so it must've been around 4am!
      But the figures are accurate. Supercharged V6 torque maxes at ~325 ft/lbs identical to the V8, but has about 20 less HP.
      It's up to the buyer whether they want to lose the guttural "soul" of the glorious 4.2 in favor of a V6 and better MPG.
      To each their own.
      Also, one of the A5/S5's chassis design features is the front axle pushed further forward of the motor, vs a standard Audi's more engine-forward design.
      Not to mention the available electronic sport differential.
      Both of which team up to dramatically reduce understeer. Which, I've never experienced in my S5...partially because I chicken out before "Raudi" ever loses her grip. I'm beginning to believe it's impossible to make her lose grip....:)
      And by the way, unless you own and daily a S5, your opinion is subject to suspicion....but maybe you do....

    I hate those kind of comments too. Volkswagen builds great cars, and it annoys me when some BMW fanboy try to use that as a witty insult towards Audi. Lexus is built by Toyota. But that doesn't mean Lexus isn't a respectable luxury car brand. And with all the iconic cars Volkswagen is responsible for, that'll be more of a complement than a insult.

I have 41k miles on it now and the lease is up so I need to decide if I will keep it or go with something different. The worst things about this car are its weight, it's a guzzler, and the steering is schizo (super easy or super stiff, with no feel either way). Thud Oof If you are like me and tend to want a new car every 3 or 4 years and don't do more than 10k to 12k miles per year, then leasing is your best bet. With a lease, you essentially pay the depreciated value of the car. The monthly payments tend to run anywhere from $200 to $500 less than a traditional 5-year finance. It really depends on what the dealer and/or brand is offering. You can typically negotiate how much money down you need to place, but that would obviously also affect the monthly payment. At the end of the lease, you can just give the car back, pay the disposition fee (approx $200-$350) and pay any excess mileage (can run anywhere from $.20/mile to $.30/mile over the allotment. With a lease, you don't really want to do any aftermarket modifications because if you intend to just move on to a new car at the end of the lease, then that's just money lost. And you also don't want to risk the warranty. At the end of the lease, as I stated, you can just give the car back. If you decided that you want to keep the car, then you would just have to pay the residual value (which would be stated in your contract) by either a cash payment or through a used car loan. If you do keep it and pay the residual value off, then you avoid the disposition fee and any excess mile fees. Hope this helps!
      KEEP IN MIND - Audi typically doesn't offer strong lease deal off the bat.
      Good luck!!!

  • @CarbineGuy
    @CarbineGuy 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @DvidzS5 That's the one thing I'll really miss, plus you can always put money into it, and a V8 could potentially have a lot more power than a V6

  • @Arlind22
    @Arlind22 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @gar4ett3141 ok you are partially right. In USA you still got the V8 while here in Europe the new S5 got the V6 engine. (We also used to have the V8) And probably sometime in the future the S5 in USA will also have a V6.

  • @Arlind22

    I'm so used to them I hardly know they're there now. Maybe if it was a clear reflector it would be better. What messes up a look of a car is those dark gray plastics that Audi used to put on the outside of some of their cars in like 2002ish. They had them as side skirts too ugh

      I'm actually really worried about reliability issues since they are pricey to fix.
      I'm thinking of getting an S5 or RS5 that's 2-4 years old but I'm coming from Japanese cars like a Honda Civic, Acura TL and now a 2013 Subaru WRX STI.
      Absolutely no problems ever with those and they have been really driven although not abused. My dad got a newer 535i xdrive last year and only issues. American cars break down too but they would be cheap to fix at least. Euro cars breaking scares me. lol

But your information about the vehicles, and the filming of the car in motion is very good and entertaining, thank you for your presentation!

      Jeez. Never again
      Last Passat I put so much money into it, spent probably 5 weeks at the dealer, and yet couldn’t be fixed. Electrical problems that would shut down the engine or mess the ECU
      Audi are the same. And also, slower than a Passat ( because of weight)
