  • The Yarn;
    The Yarn used in this video is 100% Acrylic Yarn.
    You can usually find it by looking for chunky yarn.
    The brand I used in this video is Alisson and Mae.
    I buy mine at my local fabric hub/shop.
    EDIT:
    Thanks to a kind viewer named Janet Shaffer I now know you can easily find this type of yarn with the name Yarn Roving. I hope this helps you all.
    Here are some links you might find interesting.

    Loose yarn like that is called ROVING. Thick and chunky blankets are knitted from rovimg yarn on huge needles......HOWEVER, roving yarn is very weak for garments and throws: great for doll hair!

    Also the leftovers from comb out works really well for flocking. Like if you are making a wig with shaved fade. Just cut it up tiny and glue it on . Works great for anthro dolls too for fur.

    The only thing I'd say is that if you're going to pull the yarn apart, make sure you don't have your hands too close together. Depending on the type of fiber, having your hands together makes it harder to pull the yarn apart. I do love the idea of using giant yarn for wigs, I never thought of that!

      @@Loony_coony as far as i could tell the thicker, and i might be using the wrong term here, the yarn is the more fibres it has or at least the looser they are wound. I believe super bulky was the style of yarn i needed. "Thick" was naively in reference to that. Yarns that are more wound tend to have shorter fibres and dont do as well as bukier yarns. Would this method let you make longer wefts as well? I noticed with tiny yarn it seems like no matter how long your original strands were, they always seem to end up the same size at the end.

    • @Loony_coony
      @Loony_coony  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the time I found that I did get longer wefts. But it does also depend on the length of the fiber used to make the yarn. But it won't give you like a 5 cm difference. Most fibers are around and about the same length. But because you are not cuting them in half, then folding them in half again to brush it out and cut it again, yes you will see a difference. :)

  • @robynnbryar1977
    @robynnbryar1977 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is that the longest you can make the hair in the first step? Is it possible to make long hair for 15 " dolls this way? Or do the yarn strands automatically basically pull apart in the first step at this length ?

    • @Loony_coony
      @Loony_coony  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That soley depends on how long the fiber is that is used to make the yarn. The technique is not stretching the yarn or breaking it it is just pulling it out of the roving and make all the ends meet up.

    • @Loony_coony

      Ow that sucks. Maybe you can find someone who can use the yarn. But my yarn is acrylic. But you can definitely use alpacca if it is suri alpacca.

      I did some googling, as I honestly could not remember.
      But one of the brands is I believe "Made by me" which is sold at the action here. The other one I could not track down. But honestly, I usually prefer the action ones anyways as it is cheaper.

    Would you use the same steps if you wanted to make a long haired wig? Could you make a video on how to make a long haired wig and how to glue it all together? I’m trying to make my own yarn wig for my jinx (arcane tv show on Netflix) cosplay (and as we all know jinx has long braids) and I bought the thin yarn because it was on sale but I gave up on it because I only get little pieces😢

    • @Loony_coony
      @Loony_coony  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sorry. I am not a gamer so I have no clue who Jinx is. By BF said it was from a game. But you can only make a wig so long using yarn. The wig can only be as long as the fiber which the yarn is made with. So really long wigs like bum long hair is impossible with yarn I am afraid. You would really have to look into synthetic fiber
