Bassani Road Rage 2 Standard vs Quiet Baffle comparison

  • The Bassani Road Rage 2 system comes in two styles: long and short pipe in either Chrome or Ceramic Black. I purchased a short chrome system for my wife's 2016 Indian Scout and added the trask air intake and Dobeck Fuel controller. My wife found the pipe to be slightly too loud and said it had a sharp sound. I wrapped the baffle with a thicker fibreglass wrap and lowered the db to 89-90 but she still complained about the sharpness of the sound. I called Bassani and they advised that for the short pipe I could order a 'Quiet' baffle ( part # B2012W) I conducted a comparison and my wife also did a test ride and Bassani was right it made a big improvement for my wife's taste and ears.

    Excellent comparison and review! Thank you for actually using a sound meter, and showing the baffles. I would like to know what the Db level at speed was, or at cruising RPMs?

      Hi Peter thanks for the input. I didn't think of doing a db test on the bike due to wind noise and distance/location from the pipes but at cruising speed the bike is quite sedate but crack the throttle and it's an angry sound but not as loud as a loud HD.

    Hi Brian, thanks for the excellent and very informative video. I am about to order the same baffle. I wanted to ask whether the fact that it is shorter than the regular baffle caused any issue on installation and is it properly fitted in the pipe once installed? Thanks

      No the shorter baffle fits the same as the standard one,no mods necessary.

    I know this is a old post but did you notice any performance difference going to the quiet baffle?

      No difference in the seat of the pants power evaluation. I did think about fine tuning it with a lollipop/ washer setup.

    I know this is an old post but i do have the same problem witb the raspyness . I can not seem to find that part number. Is it a b2011 or a b2012w?

    • @brianmchale2926
      @brianmchale2926  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wheni talked to the factory the person called it a quiet baffle but said it wouldn't be lower in volume but would give a lower tone. This is exactly what it did in addition to getting rid of the raspy sound. I also noticed that it had two personalities. If you were in the city going easy on the throttle it was quite reputable but anything beyond light throttle, you just woke up a monster, very nice deep thump. Yes that is the correct number that you listed.

      B2011?  I can't seem to find part # B2012W anywhere.

    Definitely don’t like the idle volume. If you’re not happy with all aspects of the quiet baffle, then it’s a waste of money.

      Hi V Star Thanks for the comment. We live in a very strict Province (=State in USA) that is very hard on bikes with noise emissions and NON OEM pipes so to fly under their radar the quiet baffle was installed which lowered the db and tone to just legal levels. To lower it further I would install www.dkcustomproducts.com/thunder-torque-inserts-258-model-family-dk-tti-258.htm and experiment till I got the balance between Sound and Performance (usually the two are at the same point in adjustment). My phone takes great pics but is lousy at recording sound and unfortunately that is what I used to capture the sound on this video. So to conclude I felt the investment in the extra baffle was a good purchase since it allowed me to experiment with one while the original sat on the shelf incase my experiments on the other rendered it trashed.

    So, the stock fabric baffle was without any material, only stainless baffle, right?

    • @brianmchale2926
      @brianmchale2926  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the stock baffle is longer and lightly packed. The accessory baffle is shorter.

    Did your wife agree that the staccato sound was dulled/eliminated with this baffle? Also, I can't find this part anywhere. Bassani says they don't make a quiet baffle for the Road Rage 2 2-into-1 exhaust for the Indian Scout.

      The sound was deeper and not as sharp sounding. The baffle was recommended by one of the factory service reps. Its an 8011 There is also a co that makes a version of the adjustable lolly pop that fits in the baffle about 2.5 to 3 inches from the exit

    Thats the performance baffle not the quiet baffle

    • @brianmchale2926
      @brianmchale2926  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I talked to the factory support desk I was told that it gives a deeper sound but that it reduced the db slightly. If it is the performance baffle then I am in the dark about that. But I did like it more.

    Oh i just ordered mine to put on my fat bob 2018. Bit it’s even louder!? Why they call it quiet baffle? I have the black road rage 2/1... i get headache after 150kms on my bike hope this baffle will solve the problem...

      Get some aluminum exhaust tape and tape over one fifth of the holes on the baffle tube. You will have to remove the fibre glass and reinstall it after. Try that and if you need to, block off more.
