    Sir , I have a little doubt how does exactly microstructure controls the hardness?? Sir it is clear that quenching brings better hardness than annealing due to faster cooling rate,but why faster cooling increases hardness??

    Is Martensite a phase or a micro-constituent ?

    • @introductiontomaterialsscience
      @introductiontomaterialsscience  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Both. It is a phase. And since it has distinct appearance in a microstructure it is also a microconstutuent. Contrast this with pearlie. It is not a phase as it consists of mixture of two phases: ferrite and cementite. But it has a distinct appearance in the microstructure, so it is a microconstutuent.

    Hardness - Martensite > Troosite > Sorbite > Spheriodite

    The metals grows plastic with temperature. Can we say austenitic steel is much plastic than alpha ferrite?

    • @introductiontomaterialsscience
      @introductiontomaterialsscience  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What you can say that austenite is deformed plastically more easily than ferrite. Austenite is more plastic than ferrite does not sound good.

    what cooling media we use, air or water for tempering?

    • @shivangsingh5834
      @shivangsingh5834 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We could get good grain structure in air cooling so I think we use air as a cooling mediam in tempering

    Sir in tempering after holding it in temp below eutectoid temp when we cool it again,whts the rate of this cooling?is it same as quenching?

    • @introductiontomaterialsscience
      @introductiontomaterialsscience  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, there is no need to quench after tempering. Slow cooling will do.

  • @juliogarcia6224

    It is incorrect the explanation because when you use tempering in a microestructure of martensite the heat tempeture shall be for below of A1 in this case, for below of 725°C to generate a microestructure acircular martensite
