I've been rewinding the video for 50th time now just to see the smile on Blade's face when Wolfi hits those notes. This is music. This is what all musicians strive for. LIFE.
Poetic stuff. The drummer goes beyond merely playing the drums. Not often I listen through a whole TH-cam clip but this one really grabbed me and pulled me in.
the spirit of an open-ended conversation, translated into music. jazz can work like that. great drums here. I picked up a cd of this duo at a Muthspiel gig from a year or two later with a conventional trio (Mehdlau's bass/drummer rather than Blade). Muthspiel had stopped using loops by then. jazz musicians generally avoid using loop pedals and the like. but if used well, like here, tis nice (david becker is another guitarist that does that), especially if it works to create a folky/melodic vibe, as here, which is a large part of the reason why Metheny's melodies, with reverb, were so popular in the first 10 years of his career
Watching this duo live was one of the most memorable shows I have ever seen. Such an incredible amount of joy expressed on stage through the deep musical connection between these two masters!
This stuff is great! I've just become aware of Wolfgang, & love his cleaner sound. Also I'm wondering if the Ludwig drums are Brian's? I've never seen him playLudwig, & they have one of the most amazing sounds of any drums I've heard him play.
does someone know which guitar he plays first? the one with the head turned around? which model is it? would be glad if someone knows it and could tell!
well, i am sure he used to boss rc20 at a live show, because i've seen it with my own eyes. maybe he also uses a digitech, but i know for sure he uses the boss rc20.
Brian Blade is the most happy drummer that i know, its so amazing to how much fun he got behind drums.
Brian Blade plays a lot of stuff in this video... but... It all makes sense! Every note he plays has a purpose and is so tasty. Viva la Blade!

It was like a movie
Also ich könnte nur wiederholen, was der letzt geschrieben hat... Wahnsinn Herr Muthspiel! Excellent Mr. Blade!!!
WOW. Brian is the perfect example of a musical drummer, making every single note count to enhance the music. Thanks for posting. Beautiful!
Lovely - I was looking for the Friendly Travellers gospel group, but got converted! Heavenly smile at end, too!
고등학생때 이 앨범이 나왔는데 그땐 유튜브도 음반도 귀했던 때라 이 충격적인 앨범을 몇달 동안 반복해서 들었던 기억이 난다. 하교하며 보이던 노을이 생각나네

I w ogóle Brian Ty jesteś najbardziej kulturalnym perkusistą! :)
Wow. Found this on a thread about looping pedals. Glad I did. The feel of the drummer is amazing!
I feel like i've been hit by a giant wave of sound...this is great!
Incredible. They are one with their instruments and the music. Brian Blade’s drumming is so fluid and dynamic. Blows my mind
Ils ont de la chance de jouer l'un avec l'autre , et l'autre avec l'un .Quelle équipe ! ! !
I absolutely love these recordings. Must have the DVD. Brian Blade approaches the drumset with such conviction. Breathtaking.
Blade isn't human! Absolutely wonderful drumming

ひやー、すばらしいです。
Me recuerda la época dorada de Pat y Lyle. Es muy limpio al tocar la guitarra. Excelente.
mr blade, could i please have just 1/250 of your ability and feel??
This song was a landscape. Nicely done! Remniscent of Pat Metheny, but original.
Guys, Wolfgang is using LEXICON JAMMAN.
I have one for sale, cause i dont use it anymore...

@culpritto yes, metheney had some influence on him cause he was his teacher in Boston.

That nerdy black guy has a really nice drum tone. Dry and thick with least amount of that irritating snarish(?) sound. Love it.
Nerdy black guy?
hm should have been a reply on the looping discussion..

It's from a German company called Frame Works. Here's a link: www.frameworks-guitars.com/about-frame-works-guitars.html
Any one knows which looping pedal is W. using?
@epasurr yeah dude. this sounds a lot like "john boy."
anyone know the snare brian is using?????
well, i am sure he used to boss rc20 at a live show, because i've seen it with my own eyes. maybe he also uses a digitech, but i know for sure he uses the boss rc20.
@grijazz
Brian Blade is the best drummer in the world!!
Like Keith Jarrett & Jack De Johnette. The loop replaces the bass player. Anyway, Brian has the same musical feel as Jack has, IMHO.
probably his own custom canopus zelkova snare...i guess
ouuf!
ah, urs too? :>
Hi
1 digitech jamman, 1 lexicon jamman, boss rc-20 sometimes (but not at that tune)
15/8 ??
Just 4/4
