    The most beautiful remains for me the MIrage III. So pure and so sleek. A piece of elegant art. I learned to draw airplanes by sketching the Mirage when a child.

    Just a quick note here Mike. My sister was visiting and your part 2 of 'world's most beautiful aircraft' was on the big screen. Up came the TWA Constellation. She saw it and said oh that's the plane I flew to Florida on! She commented about the wing tip tanks. Bumpiest ride on an airplane she ever had. They came around and asked if anyone would like dinner?
    She said no.... 😂

    You do spoil us, Mike. Great job, and I was pleasantly surprised by your pick of the B-1. One of the best sounding, too. If you sit in the grandstands at Las Vegas Motor Speedway the B-1’s sound is off the charts coming out of Nellis.

    I'm a little late to the party, but thanks Mike, for using the picture of the ONA Super 63 DC-8 at 7:20. My mom was a stewardess/hostess for ONA in the early 70's, and I had the opportunity to fly with her on several occasions as a kid. The pic you used brought back some memories.

      I'm not fan of the Soviet Union or Russia, but the exclusion of those aircraft here are noticeable. I think the TU-154 is one of the best looking aircraft, a tri-jet it's proportionally better looking than the 727 or British Trident. The 154 has a cleaner look, maybe a better Golden Ratio?

    The SAAB 35 Draken beats the Bone any and every day of the week....🥰😍😎
    That being said, the B-1 IS a beautiful piece of machinery....
    Brutish but beautiful, that is the Skyraider to me, wouldn't mind a couple in a hangar....
    Here's a question for you, I can't remember if you've touched this before or not....which decade would you consider to be most interesting one, regarding aviation?
    Excellent video, as always!

    • @celebratingaviationwithmik9782
      @celebratingaviationwithmik9782  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the SAAB J35 was included in Part 1, and thanks for the great question. For me personally, that decade would have to be the 1950s (Bell X-1 to X-15, first jet airliners and helicopters, et al.), but the 1940s began with World War II and ended at supersonic flight. Might have to be a future episode and will credit you for the request. Many thanks!

    Extremely difficult to pick a single "best looking" aircraft, Mike, but you do a great job at pointing out most of the top "selections" to consider!
    I have to say at the F-108 Rapier stands as my top for military; and since my dad worked for TWA from the 50's into the 70's, nothing beats the 1049 SuperG. Too elegant to pass up as #1!

    I flew from St. Louis to Orlando on the L-1011 in 1981. Absolutely the most beautiful, comfortable, and elegant airplane I was ever on. Got a free upgrade to first class, so that might have had some influence.....It was also a wine-tasting flight. But, still!

    • @celebratingaviationwithmik9782
      @celebratingaviationwithmik9782  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just been to an aviation museum that had a couple fighter planes and found the most aesthetic of them to be the 104 Starfighter. But man, that thing is TINY compared to the Panavia Tornado standing next to it. The civilian planes I find the most pleasing for the eye are the aerobatics monoplanes with their sleek, simple lines.

    Thanks Mike for this wonderful series on aviation. Really appreciate the use of aviation art when possible instead of photos. Big in illustrator myself I love watching your videos just purely for inspiration inspiration. Just one small, insignificant, minor glitch in your last presentation. The Albatros D.III was manufactured by Albatros Flugzeugwerke not Pfalz. Thank you, once again, for your considerable work on each topic you have presented.

    Agree about the Super G. Love the curve of the back. This plane looks great on the ground from below 3/4 view. My parents flew in it several times and I’ve always wondered about the experience of seeing the plane for the first time in the flesh in advance of a long flight when intercontinental travel was still a relatively new idea.

    • @stevenborham1584
      @stevenborham1584 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your parents probably had the same thought about the idea of flying aboard DC-3's for the same route/time/distance, only your comparison is probably against the modern magic carpet 767's. Your parents most likely were grateful there were four engines instead of 2 wimpy ones, and that they were going to fly over (most) inclement weather and in only one aircraft.

    For simple elegance in military aircraft I think you’d be hard-pressed to beat the Dassault Mirage III. In the GA/business sector the Piaggio Avanti has a wired beauty. For airliners, though, once you’ve mentioned the Super G and Starliner there’s no real competition although the DC7C was nicely proportioned and looked right. Look forward to editions 3 through infinity. Many thanks.

    Great artwork and photographs of some stunning planes. I personally love how the Mirage IIIC looks. To me it is one of the most elegant looking delta wing aircraft of all time. Especially when it is in its bare metal form. The Mirage IV was mentioned in part 1, but to me personally the Mirage III is better. The MiG-21Fs specifically are also quite small and sleek before they gain the hump look quite fast and elegant.
    Forgot to mention my favourite sea plane the M.C.72. The extremely long nose with its V24 engine looks like it means business.

    Thanks for another great video on beautiful planes. High on my list of "beautiful because it is built to work" would be the Stuka, the F4U Corsair, B-25, and the Sikorsky S-58 helicopter. And contenders for the top 10 most beautiful military aircraft "just because" would include the Me-262, the Bf-109E, and the Mig 3. I think most people would prefer the Bf-109F thru K, but I like the shapes of the older cowling and wings. Also, I would not have the TA-152 on a good list because its wings and fuselage made it look ungainly.

    Rather than the BONE, I like to think of the B-1B as nicknamed BOB, as is B ONE B.

    Missed beautiful aircraft: Boeing 727. I love its S-Duct inlet for the Number-2 engine, and the entire empennage is just awesome!

    My entire 28 years active and reserves were with the C-141. Maintenance, flight engineer and finished up back in maintenance. 2,000 hours flight time!

      Thanks for the comment, and I have many hours riding in C-141s with the Air Force Art Program back in the day. Wonderful airplane!

    There could indeed be many more episodes and maybe the net could be cast wider to take in some of the Eastern Bloc designs which were at least as sleek as some of the US or British types. Think of the Tu-104, Tu-134 and the Tu-154 with those swept wings and podded landing gear - purposeful but pretty racy-looking. The Tu-95 Bear and the related Tu-114 airliner are also classics that deserve a mention, I think.

    Love the recent series on "the most beautiful". My compliments to "the Committee". Thought I might see a nod to the Curtiss Commando.

    The commitee did a great job, but my heart will always be with the Deperdussin monocoque 1913 ❤

    I was lucky enough back in the early to mid 1990s to catch three rides on the "Save-A-Connie" Super "G" (actually a Super "H") Constellation complete with the long, radar nose and wing tip, fuel tanks.

    Hey Mike, check out the Heston Napier Racer. One of the best looking airplanes ever.
