Concert Budddie 79er is legit because Digital became the norm in the late 80's. I'll give him the fresh ears.Tim is probably the most based when it comes to records. Thanks Steve you have been subbed..
I love The Beatles remixes - I have purchased every single one and I will continue to do so. To me, they’re just a bit of fun; a fresh, new and interesting way to digest some of the most legendary recordings of all time. I even prefer some of them over their original stereo mixes, like Revolver. BUT, as others have said in the stream, the problem is the original mono mixes absolutely should still be in print and widely available. It’s insane to me that they are keeping the mono versions under such lock and key. The main reason why everyone is pissed at George Lucas for “improving” the Star Wars films is chiefly because he refuses to allow the original cuts to be screened theatrically, put up on streaming or released on home media. He’s simply wiped them from existence (officially speaking, of course - there are plenty of fan restoration projects out there). He’s basically the only major film director who has done that. For example, when Spielberg edited E.T. for the 25th anniversary, he made sure to include the original theatrical version in the DVD set. Blade Runner has, what, 5 different cuts? But practically every release presents every single cut. Same with James Cameron’s films. Almost all of his movies have “director’s cuts” and all of their home media releases include the original cuts too. When it comes to The Beatles remixes, they should really be packing in the mono version with each copy (The Turtles have done this for their albums… they’re 2-LP releases where disc 1 is stereo and disc 2 is mono). At the very least, sell them separately but KEEP THEM IN PRINT. I shouldn’t have to hunt down a beat up 60s mono copy or shell out a hundred bucks for a clean original, or spend like $1,000+ for the 2014 mono box. It’s ridiculous. Anyway, there’s my contribution to the wonderful tradition of rants on this channel 😅
Josh walkin' back his mention of the type of tape used for Aja on your show is funny. He didn't clarify whether his source was right or wrong, only said what lot of people said, that it sounds great so it doesn't matter what tape was used. Don't you think he should have waited to hear it before "breaking news" on your show?
Steve Hoffman is banned from touching any universal tape. That's why Kevin mastered all the AF titles from Universal. The blue note titles Steve Hoffman did was before Universal purchased Blue Note.
Yeah that was very… interesting. He essentially said Chad and Bernie were lying about the source, then going into the comments saying he never said they lied… but like, okay, he didn’t literally say the word “lie” but the situation was this: Chad said they used a non-EQ’d tape copy, then Josh said he has a source who knows it wasn’t a non-EQ’d tape copy, and later on in the stream he said he was “sticking by my source,” so idk how else to characterize it other than essentially saying Chad is lying because you have a source who knows the truth. Now he’s waffling and walking it back in this video, saying he was “taken out of context” (which is just plain incorrect and ridiculous) and that it doesn’t even matter anyway. Spare me. Don’t try to say it was people misinterpreting or just trying to start drama, or taking out of context or trying to intentionally skew what was said. Just man up, own your sh*t, own your mistake and apologize for putting false information out there and essentially questioning the character of the two men who literally produced the release.
Great hearing George talk about the digital aspects, as a mastering engineer myself that has used both for the last 30 years you use whatever will give you the sound your after, in my opinion the reason why alot of AAA sound so good is because there was alot of care taken through the whole vinyl process , from the mastering through to the press

About the AP Atlantic 75th pressings. It seems quite a lot of warped records there. Especially the Dr.John. Some complaints on the AP FB fanclub page. I heard that Mike from The "in" Groove also replaced already records with the same problem.
Great video, good to get generational opinions. From an older boomer ‘47, I was excited for the Beatles Red album remix. Great roundtable Steve. I bought the OG mono Beatles albums in a cutout bin for 1.99 each in my late teens when the stereo versions were released and still have them. They sound great. I agree there should be some delineation between the remix versions of the Red/Blue and the originals. If people like the remixed versions, that's fine. Just not my cup of tea.

Since he's Canadian, I wonder what is going on in Steve's mind when listening to the American showing records available of 60, 40 30$. I noticed he was very quiet.

I agree with Tim. I love the sound of the 45, but it’s is difficult to settle in and just enjoy. Too much up and down and running to the needle.

tape no digital hard edges, smooth to the ears, tape natural to ears, not ones and zeroes jus everything that is there
