Man, I really NEEDED this lesson, thank you!! I almost hate to play chords, but then when I watch Eric Johnson noodling around, chords are what his noodling is structured around.
You hinted at the Robert Johnson move, D7 shape on GBE strings bass held behind on D string, hold bass note and pull the little D7 back one fret into a diminished 7. If anyone thought country blues is rough and unsophisticated it doesn't have to be. I love that sound, use it all the time. You can slide that D7 up three frets into the C7 shape on the DGBE strings. Effective in a slow blues. Really lyrical for vocals to wail over. 👍
A lot of great stuff here. You’re very knowledgeable and also a super competent player. I’ve seen about 10-20 of your other videos. Just a guess here, but methinks you started when you were young when shred guitar was the big thing, and you practiced that for a long time and got really good at it, but then you realized a lot of that is elementary on a harmonic level, and you started getting into real theory and blues and some jazz. And so now you have become a well rounded player who can play blues but you also possess the technique to burn it up when you want. One suggestion: work on your lighting.
Thanks for watching. Pretty much nailed it. It is amazing to discover the real magic is in the subtleties of blues, and rock. I have spent the last few years diving into Bands like the Ventures, that is really eye opening, it is the source of so much of the language of rock guitar, (alongside the blues.) I really appreciate the constructive feedback! Always looking for ways to improve the overall quality of the videos, so I’ll definitely work on that.
@@evergladesrhythm yeah man. I know you’re trying with your channel and the content is really good, you’re knowledgeable and you explain things well. But there are 10,000 other guys on TH-cam doing the same thing. It’s a tough market. So anything you can do to improve the experience people get on your channel is going to help. The lighting is dim, and I’m assuming you’re using your phone to record. And when you try to record a video in dim light with a phone camera, it gets fuzzy looking. The definition and clarity isn’t there. And everything in your video looks orange. I’m not a videographer, so I am no good for technical advice, but I can give you feedback on what I see. You don’t need a $10,000 camera. Just fix some lighting. I watch a lot of videos by Guthrie Trapp, (as I’m sure you do, too). His lighting is very bright, maybe TOO bright actually, but everything is clear. You offer some great lessons for intermediate/somewhat advanced players. Dont give up. I watch a lot of guitar channels, and your content is great. Just work on the lighting and presentation. Btw, the audio sounds good, I like yer guitar tones and the levels between your guitar and voice are very well balanced.
Nice lesson. You don't just have great chops, your playing is great as you really put it together nicely. Tone is great I can listen all day long. Curious to your background. You must have played with some big bands, or was a popular session guy or something. Am I wrong?
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. My background is in music, production, and education. When I was younger, I had the incredible opportunity to tour with bands, and even opened for some big names like Aerosmith! These days, I've shifted into the corporate world, working in tech, but music is still a huge passion of mine, and I love sharing what I've learned through videos like these. Thanks again for tuning in!
Awesome lesson. You do a good job explaining the the patterns behind being able to improvise or sit in with a band. I sa a guy last night whining about how he had progressed beyond the blues. This always gets me because as you said the genre of blues music is incredibly diverse and intricate and really along with jazz allows musicians to improvise and explore in their own personalized way. Gotta go through the blues to get just about everywhere else. Also is that guitar gold sparkle? I have 2 sparkle Gretschs, love em. Was it a special order?
@@evergladesrhythm it’s beautiful. I have a silver sparkle jet and a Setzer Hot Rod Antifreeze Green Sparkle. I love the sparkle. Was the GA a special order? Thank you for responding.
Fantastic...

Well stated and presented...good job!!
Thank you
Great lesson. This is an area I am sorely lacking in.
Glad it was helpful!
Man, I really NEEDED this lesson, thank you!! I almost hate to play chords, but then when I watch Eric Johnson noodling around, chords are what his noodling is structured around.
Totally! Chords, arpeggios and scales are all useful ways to get creative.
Thanks for watching. Eric is amazing isn’t he?

Totally. Blues is the source!
The guitar is a Gretsch 6120 ga
It’s kind of a green gold.

I don't actually know, I bought it off a good friend.
Cool shapes have names. Do you know the names of these shapes? Because you are very hard to follow.
Hi George
I put the chord names and chord charts in the community post.
Thanks for watching.
