Milt (aka "Bags" ) was-and is- such a vitally important figure in the development and growth of modern jazz.I hope the TH-cam videos bring the work of this incredible musician to new generations of listeners.
And once again, Araki never fails to introduce me to more and more of the GOATs of the past that people just don't talk about anymore for some reason 😢
That last sweeping glance at the end, after that beautiful flourish of chorded notes, says "Here's a lil sumthin for all I y'all... Just in case y'all forgot how bad I truly am". Priceless...
A deep soul with the hands of an angel...i'm in heaven but at the same time i'm feeling like i'm walking in some street of an old New York City by night...
Great jazz masterpiece, perfectly suted for listening at the top of a highrise in the middle of a big city, in a clear and frosty winter afternoon, with that muffled traffic noise, low winter sun, and pink distant smokes on the horizon
Nobody, ever, has phrased better than this: It's miraculous! PS.: I also revere his last ever album with the Clayton/Hamilton Big Band - your arrangements were beyond praise in their sheer excellence and, man, did he end his recording career on an high note. If I may: Thank You, personally, for that!
Someone asked for the name of the band..the bassist Ira Coleman is superb here…floating around and thru the beauty being created here. We have the CD by Mr. Jackson, Sunflower. Now my wife listens to country music. But Sunflower is her favorite album.
I’ve been revisiting this clip for over 10 years now. Grateful it exist.

Muggers and all?
Absolutely bonkers.
How much appreciation can one express for Milt's genius ; he's such a stimuli for thought.

How do you define TOO good?
I know he’s playing a Reagan vibraphone. But I don’t know if those mallets are soft medium or hard .
not hard
It's a DEAGAN vibraphone
Alguien sabe a que concierto pertenece esto? Necesito verlo completo
Can you tell me the names of the whole band?
Is that Mike LeDonne on piano?
Yes that's right. Ira Coleman on the bass and Mickey Roker on the drums.
Someone asked for the name of the band..the bassist Ira Coleman is superb here…floating around and thru the beauty being created here.
