Halfscreen I just have that kind of experience last week. In a kind a famous seaside restaurant with very expensive pricing compares with the others. They can't even properly grill a simple squid & lobster. Squid chooped tiny and grilled until hard rubbery. Last and not least just poured dark thick soy souce. And that's it. 😭🤦🏽
Few things ive learned about Mark: If it's too sweet hes gonna mention it and how he's not the biggest fan of sweet (just like me), he always tries to stay positive, but overall he is very honest but absolutely enjoys food. "If it's not spicy im not eating" best motto to live by.

I still think it's funny when he does it though. He chews slower, like he's stalling for time, and "Ok....ok..." means he's anlyzing the live frog he just put in his mouth, to find the nicest thing he can say about it. I love the travel parts too. Some people in the US are woefully ignorant of different cultures. I really wish those types would stay home.

They are genuine expressions believe me. I usually cook the food that he shows he really likes and it is usually delicious. I find the recipes online and then I rewatch the show and watch the person cook it on the show. I haven't been disappointed yet.
Actually he makes thorough research about places that truly serves good food. He also relies on the info from his connections on different countries and regions. The reason why he has to do this is to not waste time. It’s not easy to film multiple food locations to fit in 1 video. If you waste time, you waste money. He also knows that the good food places needs to be presented in his videos, to support those businesses.

I’ve eaten a lot of strange things, fermented shark in Iceland, pickled pig stomachs at an authentic chinese restaurant, and grilled sheep tripe marinated in bile in South Africa. Bile is objectively the nastiest thing I’ve ever tasted. It’s like the taste of a sour burp. Years ago I was watching an episode of fear factor and the challenge was to roll some dice and drink a smoothie made from the ingredients you rolled. Most of the ingredients were strange but palatable, like organ meats and stuff. But one of them was bile. I was like “that’s no fair, it’s objectively nasty.” Sure enough, everyone who rolled bile couldn’t drink their smoothie and everyone who didn’t, could. Actually, I did try a chinese bitter tea that may have been even worse once, but for very similar reasons. Bitter is my least favorite flavor. I like pretty much all the others, sweet, salty, sour, savory, and spicy, alone or in combination. But I just do not care for bitter. I don’t even like most IPAs. A few are alright. But it’s definitely the most overrated beer type, IMO.
Same here, never understood that IPA hype, not only that most are highly bitter, but the kind of bitter I just hate. I mean there are foods that are bitter on purpose, but are still ok, like stuffed Chinese bitter melon, an ok combination of savory and bitter

So like more then a few do these "food appreciation" career videos and I dont know why you will always be my favorite...your personality comes across in a nice easy going way (not over the top) and your comments trustworthy...tell your wife and kids we like them too! Mark is a humble man, he never use any bad word as comments for the nasty food he tasted, but when he gives bad comments about the food he tasted, I believe 200% that the food is really in bad taste.

So like more then a few do these "food appreciation" career videos and I dont know why you will always be my favorite...your personality comes across in a nice easy going way (not over the top) and your comments trustworthy...tell your wife and kids we like them too! I wish you good appetite, strong digestive system and smell and taste buds that never fail you.
I just had to add...I love how when your eating something that doesnt taste good and your describing the taste your smiling while saying how bad it is...not in a fake people pleasing kind of way but more like a "yeah guys food is not always going to taste good but the experience is what I live for"..

He’s trying to be respectful and not to offend any culture out there. That’s why Mark is never being so blatant at commenting a food, and very careful in term of word choices. Mark is trying to be polite in every culture he’s currently sit in although he doesn’t really like it, and that’s what I highly admired of him.
