  • Everything you need to know about Paul McCartney's "The Fool on The Hill" |
On March 29, 1967, while Paul and John were trying to finish writing a new song for Ringo to sing for Pepper, which ended up being With A Little Help From My Friends, The Fool on the Hill made its debut at St. John's Wood. Paul takes this overarching theme of the lonely man and develops it, much like John does in Nowhere Man, in a somewhat different but equally remarkable fashion. Similar to how he handled Penny Lane after listening to John's Strawberry Fields Forever, Paul's retelling keeps the audience intrigued as to the identity of "the fool."
    Written by: Lennon-McCartney
    Recorded: 6, 25, 26 September; 20 October 1967
    Producer: George Martin
    Engineer: Ken Scott
    Released: 8 December 1967 (UK), 27 November 1967 (US)
Paul McCartney: vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, bass, recorder
    John Lennon: harmonica, Jew’s harp
    George Harrison: acoustic guitar, harmonica
Ringo Starr: drums, maracas, finger cymbals
Christopher Taylor, Richard Taylor, Jack Ellory: flutes

This Paul McCartney voice was made by combining my real voice with an AI model. I thought it sounded pretty cool!

I always found this song very dark & scary especially the switch to D minor on the chorus with the reed instruments it just has a strange, unsettling eerie edge.

Thanks, but Fool on the Hill is not a "retelling" of Nowhere Man. John's Nowhere Man is not alone at all, he is one of the crowd, a person who goes unthinking through life like a sheep. The Fool is a wise loner who has left the crowd behind and has his own truth. Completely different.
Also, I feel that it's misleading to say that it's "about the Maharishi" in that it was substantially written months before George introduced The Beatles to the Maharishi on the guru's first visit to London. I think Paul's recollection - "I think I was writing about *someone like* the Maharishi" - is telling, as is his statement that The Fool was inspired by the Tarot. It seems to me the Maharishi came along later and just put a face and a name on the kind of universal character Paul had aklready imagined.

@BeatlesBible1 I just feel that if someone used my voice, even for something I supposedly said, without my consent, I'd feel a little violated. Depending on the context, maybe a lot. It's not what u say bit how u say it. Much is lost in how something is said. Also, that tech can easily be used to make anyone sound like they said anything. That's something I'd personally like not to happen. I didn't even feel like it added anything to hear Paul sound like AI anyway. It's not up to me what you do, but I hope that doesn't continue.

@@boneappletea3858 Paul embraced artificial intelligence to produce "Now and Then," which improved John's 1977 demo. Although he didn't have John's consent, he probably felt justified because it was done out of love and respect. The same applies to my video when I use Paul’s voice. It’s done to improve the viewer’s experience, and I’m _only_ using it to paraphrase him.

The Fool on the Hill, written by Paul. It's a pretty good song, but he should have told the other Beatles, where he was going. The movie was pretty boring, but the music was fantastic and so were the lyrics. There will never be a group as great as the Beatles. All I can say is fantastic
