So had this problem today after work. Went to Active Green & Ross. Charged me $384 with tax parts and labor. Took 1.5 hours of work. Just wondering if that's a good price? Saw on Amazon flex pipes for Ford explorers are around $55

It's a little bit on the high side. Usually what we charge depending on the vehicle and whether it's been serviced or the condition of the pipe is usually about $200 to $300. For the customer in the video I think it was 250 but I don't remember honestly. There's a few different factors that go into pricing that sort of stuff. Unfortunately like everything there are many different quality levels to manufacturer which greatly affects the price. But generally especially for this vehicle it's no more than 300. If you're in the Toronto area you can definitely reach out for any future exhaust work or any work in general. I hope this helps you.

    Best exhaust shop

Does this also help eliminate the smell under hard acceleration? (The exhaust smell which many explorer owners have complained about. Especially occurs when you have AC or heater with recirculation on)

Unfortunately my friend I am unaware of this issue. I'm not sure what it could be. I know that the Explorer did have an issue regarding the manifold but I think that has been fixed of course that is depending upon the year that you have. As for the flex pipe it definitely will reduce the amount of exhaust fumes that you smell if you have a leak of course. It sounds like you may be talking about a catalytic converter smell which generally smells kind of like rotten sulphuric eggs.

Thanks for this video very informative and helpful, Whats the diameter and length of the new flex pipe for this ford explorer? Hope it's the same as 2012 explorer.
    Thanks

Hey Philip, I think it was a 1 and 7/8 pipe diameter (ID) and the length overall was 12 in. In that 12in is 2in on either side of pipe which gives you 8in flex. Thank you for the compliment and subscribing. It is really appreciated.

Thanks for the Vid Tut . Need more details please. We are cursed with the INfamous Cabon Monoxide in the cabin issue that Ford claims has nothing to do with them. Is this video to partially to address that issue? Want to ask before figuring out how I will test if ours is leaking or not. Also, plan to seal all outside openings (missing / worn seals/gromets.) since the dealership will charge ("Diagnostic fee") to give us a bill and tell us that is the problem.

Hi Wilson, in regards to your vehicle don't seal up any holes. There are various holes on the firewall that should not be plugged. The repair that I do in the vehicle can also cause you to have exhaust fumes come into the cabin but the most common culprit on this particular car is the exhaust manifold cracking. That is a dealership issue and I'm pretty sure something that was covered under recall. What I would do is take your VIN number call around to a few other dealerships locally and see if your vehicle has a recall for exhaust manifolds. Or you can talk to the local parts department at the Ford dealership to see if it's a popular part that sells. I know that there was a good few years where the exhaust manifold would crack some of which are covered by a recall. I hope that helps. Good luck and don't forget to hit that subscribe button.

@@JimmysAutoClinic Thank you so much for the reply. Here in Colorado Springs, there is only 1 authorized Ford dealer. 😞 W/ VIN, they are avoiding any recalls on our 2015 Ford Explorer, saying they are all expired. Thank you so much for pointing out the firewall & sealing. Else I would not have known. For our specific vehicle, supposedly there are no exhaust manifold recalls. As you know, Ford avoids any responsibility possible and now looks like they have customer paid Gov Agencies siding with them.

@@JimmysAutoClinic I saw 1 video where they "Claimed" the internal carbon monoxide happens when interior recycling air is selected. Not sure about that one. At end of day, I will prob. have to remedy issues myself.(as usual). If you can link ANY instructions/fix to interior exhaust issue , that would be most helpful.

If you feel like the dealership is not being honest with you what you can do is call forward head office in the US give them your VIN number and see if there are any recalls related to the exhaust or your vehicle in general. They will tell you and then if they say they are you can then ask them to direct you to a dealer that will take care of the recalls. If there are no recalls then I suggest looking for a good local exhaust shop or trust in mechanic shop which will be able to do a proper diagnosis and repair. The only downside to that is it will be coming out of your pocket. Unfortunately I don't know if they're is anything else that you can do really. Hopefully this puts you on the right path.
