I watched Pete Thorn’s review earlier, and was impressed by how classic Vox like he got the amp to sound. An extremely versatile amp.

Great review ,great sounding amp . Most importantly does Dagan have any albums or EP 's out available

I used, on the HT100 mk I, OD 1 for leads and OD 2 for Rythms (both boosted) . The power crapped out on my pedal board and did the whole show plugged straight in and the live recordings were more amazing then with my pedals!

I think Dagan needs to do a guitar clinic tour of the us. I would def go to one lol I dont even care what its about cause would be worth it just to meet the guy. Love the Blackstars though. Def ya get tons of amp for the money and its all good.

Do these have reactive loads built in same as the St. James series? so that you can use the head itself for recording etc. without having to have the cab connected?

I am on the fence about getting a Blackstar . My local Big Box guitar store just started to sell them in the fall of 2023 and aways wanted to try BlackStar but they were not available in my area. I have a 5 watt and 40 watt Marshall and looking for a diffetent flavor and more tonal variety but dont want to spend big money on a Fender or Messa and dont care for Hughes and Kettner or orange or Traynor Etc . My local shop doesn't carry Bogner or Soldano ENGL Etc. So Blackstar is the only real option . I tried some Fender Bassbreakers and they sounded pretty decent and even bought a limited edtion Bassbreaker 15 with a Creamback M and loved out but returned it because like all the others it was very noisy.
The BlackStars are right at the price point I'm willing to spend on and the Blackstars have the specs and features i want and i have several different cabs i can pair with the Blackstars with and a good variety of Speaker options and speaker combinations .
I want a darker sounding alternative to my Marshalls and the Blackstar seem fatter warmer with more Sag and less open than my Marshalls but after watching many demos I'm worried they might be too dark .i hear a lack of upper midrange cut and less of that ringing quality . I also hear way more bass than i would like . There is a alot of lower midrange which i love and is the thing i like the most about the Blackstar sound but i don't like all that bass as it does not suit my Playing style. I fear it cant be dialed out Sufficiently for my tastes. All of my speakers have robust low end with the exception of the G12M25 Greenbacks which are hardly low end deficient but have alot less than all my other speakers .

I was intrigued to see if these are also super light, like the Blackstar St James amps - turns out they're not, which is a real shame, as that would be the icing on the cake. I wonder why having put all that R and D in to the St James amps to create what they call the lightest tube amps on the planet, they don't make that a standard USP across their entire range? Is the use of a Switched-Mode Power Supply, which is what makes the St James so light limited in terms of how many valves an amp has, I wonder?

Is the HT-20RH MkII head being phased out??? I hope not. It's a great amp, but I guess in theory, you could use the 50W Mk III in 5W mode for the same situation. I just think the 20 is a great all-around amp good for practicing, recording, or gigging, and it takes overdrive pedals well!

  • @InfamouslyCantankerous

I wonder how these would do for the progressive metal and metal core sound I'm assuming a good boost or ts pedal would help tighten things up but I'm just curious of that and how it might sound worth extended range guitars like 7 strings. Love dagan

That’s why I might honestly go with the 40 watt mkiii combo! U can just use an ts808 to boost od1 for that heavier stuff

I’m not implying anything here at all about Blackstar. They’re great! But Dagan Wilkin is so good he could sell a Line 6 Spider to Glenn Fricker.

I've always found the HT amps to be very sterile and 'Mosfet' sounding. They just don't have the sonic wallop of a full valve amp.

I hate EL84 tubes I am a 6L6 guy would definitely want to replace the power tubes but don't think it would be worth it, the voicing of the amp is not designed for 6L6 tubes I'll pass on this amp.
