    introduction - identifying gaps, setting the stage for those not familiar with condition/med, etc
    methods - in/ex criteria, trial design, endpoints
    results - the results, are they applicable to your patients?
    discussion - limitations, comparing with other studies
    nothing against your video (which was very informative), but i feel like the whole paper should be read. there's no real way to read it fast. there's no part of the paper that should be skipped (maybe statistical analysis can be breezed over, but some might want to know the number of participants needed to power the study to make the results legit). i read papers for fun just to see what's going on, but i'd imagine for researchers it's hard to read these papers fast and effectively bc you just have the read the whole darn thing :T
    props to those doing reviews and stuff, it's challenging :(

      THat's what I used to think too, that I have to read every single paper in detail. But it really depends on the goal of why you read the paper. Reading a paper could be just for interest, to do preliminary lit search, screening etc. Researchers will do a deep dive when they are preparing for journal clubs or when preparing arguments for their paper.

    Thank you Dr. Jia, I have been doing research if cholesterol should be a big concern on a keto diet, due to it being key preventing my illnesses and came across possible bigger problems like Iron overload my reference ranges being taken lightly such as my ferritin being close to over due to seeing a youtuber "Frank Tufano" explaining his iron overload personal research (since we have similar diets) how it is a reliable indicator for Iron overload and inflammation. Some recommended reducing it up to 90% by donating blood.

    Hi Dr. Jia, thanks for the video. Would love to have another video on how to do a critical appraisal of a research paper. I find it difficult to make a discretion because the papers are written by experts, so my strategy so far has been to take the findings as true if it is published in the top 5-10 journals or if the author has good repute. (SIdenote: I'm not in the medical field - this strategy of reading research paper would have gotten me out of practice 🙂 ) Looking forward to more contents.

      Hi Diwash Dahal. Your strategy on choosing paper is spot on, and a great way to start. That is because, the peer review process for high impact journal is rigorous and the papers typically get assessed by many research experts/in-hour statisticians. Yes, I will do a future video on critical appraisal. We do deep dives on papers when we do journal clubs.

      @@PublishedMD Hi Dr. Jia, I'm not sure if it is already somewhere on your channel (will try to find it sometime), but if it's not, would it be possible to make a video on how to go about comprehending research papers with a demo. With demo I mean showing the process of navigating through an actual paper, taking notes, making assumptions, marking questions for future explorations etc. I understand it's a non linear, and non standardized process; (also not sure what the implications are to have somebody's paper demonstrated on TH-cam). It would be very helpful to see somebody providing an actual walk through of the paper reading process (of course only if this request is reasonable). Thanks for your response.

      @@diwashdahal6847 No, I currently do not have a full demo on how to read a research paper. That is a great idea. I already have a few videos lined up, but will put this idea in my content bucket. Thanks!

    3. Interpret Author's Intents, can you trust it ?

    hello,thanks for the video, one question where should i go to read complete medical research papers?

    • @PublishedMD
      @PublishedMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I recommend going to pubmed or google scholar. Usually there will be a button that says "read full article". There are some articles that require you to pay. If that is the case, you might want get access through your university/medical institution.
