- Grant Wahl's widow, epidemiologist Dr. Celine Gounder, revealed he died from an aortic aneurysm that ruptured. Wahl was a sports writer who collapsed and died at the World Cup. Initially, his cause of death was a mystery since the 49-year-old was in good health. Cardiologist Dr. Steven Reisman of newyorkcardiac.com/ says it's likely Wahl died quickly. Beloved actor John Ritter also died from an aortic aneurysm in 2003 during an “8 Simple Rules” rehearsal.
She is a doctor. And has seen more dead people than we ever will. She remains professional even in the hardest situations. I am sure she is grieving in her own way. If you expect her to go on tv with tears and all that stuff....expect it from someone else. This lady is strong and deserves some respect.

My cousin had the same thing and by the grace of God he survived when it ruptured. It has been 10 years since it happened and he’s doing great. The Cardiothoracic Surgeon at University Of Washington Hospital At Harbor View is someone our family will always be thankful for.

My grandpa died of this back in 2016. As soon as the aortic valve ruptured he never really stood a chance. It's almost always fatal.
He dedicated his life to soccer. He died in the biggest tourney on the world. A true gentleman of our time. May he rest, he deserves it.

My father died from an aortic aneurysm at the age of 63. He collapsed, went unconscious and died in less than five minutes. We found out later his younger sister had the same thing but it was discovered and corrected during surgery for another issue.
This is why we shouldn’t go around throwing accusations without any proof.
I have an aneurysm growing in my aorta, my wonderful cardiologist is keeping a very close eye on it by taking ultrasounds every 6 months. It runs in my family so that’s why I always had ultrasounds of my aorta on a regular basis. I’m not going to lie and say I’m not afraid, but I have so many other medical conditions that worrying isn’t going to help. I’m so sorry for that wonderful man and his family. ❤

@Veronica C. if it's a big enough aneurysm that it can rupture at any moment they 100% can take care of it before something like that happens. If they haven't done anything at this point it's probably because it's a very small one.

Though his brother was wrong I can understand how he came to the conclusion under the grief he was going through. We should never jump to conclusions in this situation but I’m sure he wasn’t exactly in the best emotional state at the moment. Wish the whole family the best.

Aneurysm, whether aortic or brain, is so scary it was even called a silent killer. Usually there were no signs or symptoms and anyone can have it.
Typically only happens in >65 year olds and is caused by blood clotting.

I had it but thankfully it was caught on a CT scan before it started to rupture. There’s litterally no symptoms, it’s a ticking time bomb just waiting. Had open heart surgery to remove it and replace the aortic root. It happened when I was 26 btw just 7 years ago

December 2019 I had a tear in my aorta and a pretty big aneurysm but thanks to my mother I was already in the hospital when they found it
My father survived this with only a small amount of brain damage for being down for so long without oxygen to his brain. We were told he had less than 7% chances of survival and he made it!

My late dad had a ruptured aneurysm also but survived it. He had a great surgeon and he was able to save him. He lived many years after that, too. But when it happens it can cause instantaneous death.

Yeah the amount of stories that I hear of people randomly dying only for them to have an autopsy done and just be revealed that they just had a heart condition that was undiagnosed. I feel like it should be more of an effort by some kind of organization or something to try to let people know trying to get their hearts checked so that one day you won't randomly die only just to find out hey you just had a undiagnosed heart condition and this could happen to anybody at any age. I remember this one story of a 13-year-old boy who died should simply because he had a undiagnosed heart condition.
