- Interior designer Jade Janks is being accused of killing her stepfather after discovering he kept nude photos of her. Prosecutors say Janks was cleaning the home of her ex-stepfather, Tom Merriman, when she saw a naked photo of herself as his screensaver. She allegedly found more racy images when she looked through his computer. When 64-year-old Merriman returned home, prosecutors say Janks gave him an overdose of sleeping pills and then suffocated him with a plastic bag.
Her text: “I just dosed the hell out of him.”
Her defense: “The overdose was his own doing.”

Im sorry about the circumstances but I know people who have had far worse done to them and their first reaction was not to murder their offender. She killed him in cold blood. Her fake crying at the end did it for me. This story makes absolutely no sense at all
When your trust in a parent has been utterly destroyed in such a perverse way, I'd say most would find they were capable of murder. I doubt there's a human being who doesn't have it in them under the right circumstances. It's hubris to think otherwise.
If it wasn't for her crying that really sounds fake to me, and that texting to her friends, I would have said "well done".

I’ve been victim of someone spreading personal photos of mine. I hated the dude but would have never killed him, he’s not worth the jail time ! She’s got crocodile tears and everything sounds off. She hasn’t handled anything better than him at this point.

Honestly distressing and even though I don't know what I would have done, I'm not blaming her for what she did. I remember having a friend in high school who often told me that her stepdad would make really inappropriate and sexualized comments to her and about her. He would even tell her what he wanted to do to her. He "one" time threatened that he was going to have sex with her if she didn't clean up her room. I was naive and young and honestly didn't know any better. If I could go back in time, I would have reported it myself to some school official. Just remembering her experiences makes me feel for this girl.

They were almost certainly already involved and sleeping together. Her real motive was likely something else entirely. She's using this defense to garner immediate sympathy. All of her body language, actions, testimony indicate deception.
Don't know how credible she is. I feel like she did a sloppy job killing him to where the evidence led police to her, and since she can't deny it she's trying to justify it so she doesn't go to prison for the rest of her life. Even if he did have pictures of her doesn't excuse her of killing him. Could have just ended whatever relationship they had and just never see or talk to him again.
It sounds like he groomed and molested her, and she kept that dark history compartmentalized-off in her mind, but seeing those photos brought it all up again in the forefront and it enraged her. It sounds like she’s told others what she’s gone through.

If you’re a victim in any circumstance, and have evidence of what the perpetrator did, the first thing to do is to take pictures or screenshots of what happened or what you found, then report it to police and inform your lawyer. It’s not hard, and it’s enough to incriminate that person.

The Stepfather is indeed a treacherous low life scum for having such a picture, directly because of his relationship with her. Justice is hearing both sides of the scenario and then being judged by your peers. She robbed us of clarity and understanding. Most importantly she robbed herself of her karma and moral sanity. Personally I wouldn’t trust a word she says, as far as why she killed him. The point is that she now has to suffer the consequences for her actions and forever be haunted by this fatal experience.
