      Howdy Don, I'm glad you found the video useful. I must admit that I've never used these previously, but I'm certainly adding a few to my camp kit now that i have had a play around with them. ~ Ben

    I use occy strap for years with no problem, but this is another product i need to test. Good review

      Occy straps are a great idea, especially if you have them on hand.
      We added trace springs a few years ago and will never go back!

    Looping the guy line around the top of the pole also serves a second purpose.
    If the wind lifts the awning and the pole comes off the ground the guy line will pull it out and away from the tent.
    Unless you use Supapeg peg-able pole feet of course!

    What would be a good length for the rope? Great vid!

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on the height of the pole you are putting it over, Al, if I had to hazard a guess I'd suggest a length double that of the height of the pole to allow for knots, the extra length required to go at an angle to the pole, and enough to double back up the length of the rope. ~ Ben

    Nice, but what about when they get a bit older, been in the elements for a while and being metal, get rusty or start to squeak when the wind is blowing during the night ?

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess it's time to replace them then, lionfeen, you can buy the springs by themselves. ~ Ben

    We recently went on our first camping trip and our camp neighbour ran us through this on his set up. It’s on our list now, and a HD tarp to go over the tent and marquee for more stability & temp control (it gets quite windy where we went). Should I also add these to the tent guy lines if I’m planning to blanket it all in a big tarp and use these?

      @SnowysOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it gets pretty windy I would say i cant hurt @Michael Domotor. Even just for the main structural guy ropes, & any attached to awning poles.

      @@SnowysOutdoors Hi Lauren. We've changed plans since making this comment 8 months ago. We've purchased the Zempire Fortress V2, which you can appreciate is a monster tent! I've never had an air tent before, let alone one this size. Would you still recommend the tracer springs for an air tent, and if so, I assume the heavy duty ones would be better for a tent this large? Appreciate your help as always! Loving the podcast by the way. I've been binging episodes and learning a lot!

      @@michaeldomotor1755 Thanks! The larger ones for the 8 main pole guy ropes would be good to have on hand. You probably wont need the tracers as much with an air tent as you would a standard frame tent, but having them in your kit is a great idea. They'll probably come in more handy for coastal or longer trips with consistent wind, will just take any strain off eyelets and fabric tabs, etc.

      Supa Peg is an Aussie company, Sanders, I'm, not sure they are sold in the US. Surely there is a similar product over there though. ~ Ben

    I have a zempire air tent. Would the you add trace springs? Or would the give in the air poles act in the same way. Thanks can't remember if this was covered in the pod

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm a firm believer that everyone should have trace springs in their kits to be on the safe side @Jack McKee...They wont be as necessary for the air tents, because you are right that their air poles will naturally have abit of give, but the springs dont just help protect poles, but the guy tie points and strain on fabric seams, etc.
      You'll probably find you wont use them as often with an air tent though.

      I'm looking into air tents for my next one. I like the look of Zempire and even the Dometic Stradbroke. What have your experiences with them been like? Would you recommend it over traditional pole tents? I currently have a Coleman instant and I like the easy set up, but we're hoping to increase the size and get a better, sturdier material for the next one.

    So I bought the blackwolf turbo 300 (canvas) and I am concerned if it's tough enough for really windy conditions, especially the awning, so I was thinking to add an extra rope to each pole and these trace spring pegs, is that something you would recommend?

    • @SnowysOutdoors
      @SnowysOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely @Beatriz Solange Von Walthussen, we recommend Trace Springs for every camping kit, especially in windy weather. We did do a podcast on this a while back, so have a listen:www.snowys.com.au/blog/podcast-wind-rain-when-camping/
