    Now, this is how engine rebuild should look like on TH-cam.
    I have learnt two very important lessons from today's video.
    1 - patience.
    2 - systematic approach to solving a problem.

      Hi Loving the channel, I want to mention a problem I had to solve with a non start D3, it would crank no fault codes or message on dash, a real head scratcher,it turned out to be the key had lost its chip code, it was only stood up up for 6 months, key recoded as it didn’t have a spare, started straight away, never came across this problem ever again, typical LR😅
      All the best
      David

    It’s so damned frustrating when you are sure you have done everything right and the engine just will not start.
    It can really knock your own confidence.
    But you will get there.

    • @Mr_Springy
      @Mr_Springy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am 100% certain you have identified the issue. However I had a similar problem on a LR TD5 engine. Engine cranked non-starter. Tried everything. Transpired the starter motor was worn and creating an electrical magnetic field when under load which was confusing the crank position sensor. (I had already replaced the CPS with a new one) New starter motor and on the button.
      I only mention this in case the new crank ring doesn’t fix it as the starter would not be something you might consider. All the best 👍🏻

I don't have a lot of experience with Land Rover diesels, I'm a V8 petrolhead myself lol but think your approach to troubleshooting the problem is spot on Christian. I’m not too surprised that it does not work yet. It’s impressive that you know how to diagnose, and have the tools. If everything just works, you don’t learn anything. So… in a way, it’s better that you need to dig deeper and know everything about everything. That always seems to give the proper result.

      Hallo Marco, wir kennen den Disco 2 leider nicht, auch nicht den Motor, aber dem Christian war bei uns sofort klar, der Motor braucht Sprit und ein Signal, mehr nicht, zum Starten. Diesel hat er ja bekommen, auch in der ausreichenden Menge, da haben wir Erfahrung mit. Darauf hin hat er den Geberring mit Kurbelwellensensor getestet und den Nockenwellensensor. Die sind für Signal verantwortlich. Der Geberring hat 59 Signale gegeben, spezifiziert sind 58. Das heißt bei dem war ein Magnetstreifen zuviel draufgedruckt. Damit konnte der nicht das richtige Signal geben. Unsere Lösung war, einen neuen zu kaufen, OEM, und einzubauen. Also Getriebe und Zwischengetriebe wieder raus, und wieder rein. Zum Glück kein Body-Off 😅👍🙋‍♀️

    @thomaslawry5238 ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw your comment during the engine assembly video, about the trigger wheel ring, and wondered how it had manifested .
    Now you are showing how you found the problem.
    What an incredible amount of frustration.... engine in, body on.
    I know a single use engine test bed is financially and space-wise out of the question.
    Not like old VW type 111, where an old gearbox casing bolted to the engine allowed functionality testing, with a starter, battery and fuel .
    Hence Vera's "! WTF ?!" comment.
    Totally justified in this case.
    Hence your decision not to beep it or edit it out.
    You lathe demonstration with the borrowed (not many have friends with such equipment) capture scope, clearly demonstrated, the pitfalls awaiting people who won't find that information in the Haynes manual, when the Lion didn't roar into life.
    Also, it justifies Vera wanting to buy OEM spare parts, and not (Cheaper ?) readily/easily available, questionable alternatives .
    Your videos have become mandatory viewing for LR owners.....
    Was watch Waldo talk about his problematic LR and wondered if he had seen this GREAT channel.
    THANK YOU.

      😅👍Of course, he knows us and watches our videos, and we watch of course his videos. The thing with OEM parts not available is fine on a project car which sit and wait, but not on a daily driver, which needs to be ready at some point. 👍🙋‍♀️

    I’m usually not one to reply, but felt I had to on this video. I do some work myself on my 2002 4.4 v8 Range Rover, recently did timing chain and guides etc, and already felt burned out from that. Massive respect on how far you’ve come already, I’m sure we’ll see you solve this issue in the next video(s)! I haven’t fully watched every video as some things are so specific to your engine but am in awe of the workmanship displayed nonetheless, and love the way you work together. Greetings from your western neighbors! (NL)

    Ich weiß jetzt, wo ich mit meinem RR Sport zum Reparieren hinfahre! 😂
    Offensichtlich habt Ihr mehr Erfahrung mit Reparaturen als die meisten Mechaniker. Ihr macht super Videos. Da kann ich, obwohl ich mal Kfz Mechaniker gelernt habe, noch viel über Land Rover lernen. Weiter so!!! 👍

    The sensor signal difference was very subtle and yet you were able to pick up on it due to your attention to detail. Well done! I'm confident a lot of people would have missed that.
    Once you get the faulty trigger wheel out, let us know if you find any issues with it, please. I'm curious.

    That is soul destroying that a new part you’ve fitted is causing you problems. Hopefully it’s a simple case of changing it and then getting to enjoy the rewards of all your hard work.

    Guten Sonntagmorgen Vera & Christian 😊 Well this was the video everyone has been waiting for especially me 😂 Body on connect everything up add fluids and watch Vera’s LR jump into life 🤔 How frustrating when it didn’t spark up for you guys 😢 But your channel is all about fixing land rovers & not a Toyota lol 😆 Have a fantastic Sunday & week and I’m sure next Sunday all will be well with Vera’s LR 🤩 xx

    Good morning Christian and Vera, I enjoyed this one so much I've already watched it twice😂. An oscilloscope is such a useful tool, I didn't know how much you could do with it (like relative compression testing by the starter motor draw etc) until I started following a guy called Ivan. His channel is called " Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics " , his channel is almost as good as yours but not half as much fun! 😂. Looking forward to next week's thrilling episode! ❤

      Ivan would have scoped the trigger wheel and then gone looking for a "known good waveform" online. Presumably Christian did that but didn't find one and instead made his own "known good waveform" using OEM parts mounted in a lathe. I've been watching Ivan, Keith Defazio and Eric O, Scanner danner etc since forever and have never seen them do anything like this. It probably went over the heads of most viewers but what Christian did here was on a whole other level, like genius tier stuff.
