My Dad had a S900 back in the seventies. I can see some similarities to this S1000. The S900 had a perkins AD4 236 engine mounted overhead and a 10’ header. It was a very good machine and did loads of work for us. There was some connection with Bamfords who I presume imported these machines. Bolinder Munktell was a parent company (shortened to BM) I hope yous got her running better. 👍

Nice to see this unusual harvester up and running. The speed of the thresher is only going about 1/2 of what is normal. Now is it the motor RPMs or has some one changed drive pulleys from original? Need to get the book out and check the RPM at the various drives. the cleaning rack don't have enough speed to move the material off the sieves. Machine looks like a cross between a Massey and an Oliver. Never under stood the rationale of putting the motor under the machine where it's nearly impossible to get at it for maintenance, plus it's quite the fire hazzard! Thanks for posting. After watching it a bit, I agree that the cutter platform needs to be polished up a bit to help feed. Especially in green conditions. Also as you pointed out the reel fingers need to be moved a bit to push the material better in to the cross auger. Those retractable fingers may need to be reset to better feed the feeder chain, that adjustment can get shifted off over time. Makes a big difference in the feed if it's not doing it's job. When you watch the Claas working, you can see the speeds that the various components work at. If one were to closely match those speed on to the Volvo, you will get better results. Those threshing speeds and principals are universally the same on most all machines no matter the maker.
I think he did get to the bottom of it eventually. Unfortunately lots of the knowledge about how to set these volvo combine has been lost in time. They are a very impressive machine for sure
A really rare machine for England and a great looking combine. Nice to see it working, just a pity it was too damp and matted. Would love to see one for real.
It appears to me that the harvesting mechanism on the Volvo is not running fast enough for the forward speed of the combine and looked as if it slowed right down as soon as it started to cut the crop. Is the main belt slipping? I’m sure if it was running at the correct speed it should easily cope with that crop
Yes I agree I thought the engine was running rite but I thought the walkers and knife looked to slow. It just wasn't suitable for those Crop conditions the thing is with bringing old combines back to life is you don't know if the work you have done has worked and its too late to rectify a big problem. I'm glad I have 3 good combines. Because if I say I will cut for someone I have something to fall back on.
I think I certainly needs adjustment somewhere. I do hope he doesn't loose interest. It's hard when that stuff happens but their is always a way round the problem
