I know this is a old video but spending a couple hundred dollars for them to do a dyno test, pressure test etc. will be 3 to 5 times more expensive than that if you go to a legit dealer
This video convinced me to buy an old truck 5 yrs ago. It played out exactly how he said it. Run it for 2 or 3 months and start replacing everything. Today Bumper to Bumper has been replaced. The truck repaired itself. Good Video.
Also blowby is compression that bypass the rings and goes into your crankcase. when your engine is idling it's the smoke that comes out of the vent tube
Been watching your DAT Board videos for a while and have learned a lot from you about that. I've been driving someone else's trucks for 43 years and am sick and tired of all their new gadgets and gizmos that make noise or emit light (buzzers and indicators). I am convinced that the only way I can do it MY way is to DO it my way. I have been browsing and have found several decent-looking trucks for not a lot of money, comparatively. I look for the plain and sometimes overlooked units that have great potential, especially for an experienced driver wanting to be an owner-operator. Your suggestions regarding RigDig and MD Alignment will certainly be helpful. Thanks, Sammy. See you somewhere down the road.
got to remember one thing. if buying a truck from the used truck dealership. they paint frames and do a real good job detailing inside and out even paint shocks. so gets tricky
thanks for the video and knowledge. currently a company driver but saving that coin to buy a used truck. taking in as much info about used trucks as possible
Most stuff I know. Thanks for teaching us about blow by. Also just hearing rhe engine sound is important . to hear whether the enfine is purring or throttling, wheezing, unsmooth revs, bad idle sounds. All a no go for me
Good video as always!!! Any good words thrown at a person for their betterment, is great, especially in the environment of today where many people are selfish and insane mainly, it's a damn good thing!!!
Bro i bought a 2006 freightliner for 15k at the beginning of the year i made over 200k gross in 8 months with it and I still got 6k trade in for it lol ... driving a 2015 Cascadia evolution now
I want to do that too. I'd be happy if I got 100k miles out of it. For that price just buy another one if it blows up and keep the old one for spare parts. Old Cummins n14 and 60 series detroit are built to last.
Damn!!!!! this quality solid info I certainly learned something new about dropping the landing gear pulling forward when getting loaded....how did I miss this video 👍🏾👍🏾
Us Farmers but cheap, good trucks...They are out there...Auction time, big iron, purple wave...Fuck them 10,000 dollar month payments when ya can buy 5000 dollar trucks.......
Buying an older truck makes sence, you put some money into it and get it road ready. Its all paid up and no payments. But most companies want recent model trucks...don't they. Every carrier i've read about wanting to hire O/O's are asking for recent model equipment.

Man i just saved 25,000 cash and bought a super clean tandem dump well everything was great it had a little blow by . Well i bought it for 20,000 cash great deal . I got home changed the oil man it was nasty... Clean Oil and holy shit she started burning oil out the exaust ...... 1 gallon in 14hrs of non stop runnin .. Im all bummed out . I watched this and well you gave me hope lol im just gonna limp her around till i can get a inframe done i guess a gallon of oil dont cost much and after that i should be good . Ugh Anyways thanks im gonna have to subscribe .
i say get a truck thats going to give you a few years without major break down .That being said we know you have to spend about 60 to 70k ,at least in the east coast .There is always a chance even if you buy a brand new one .My truck is a good runner after my delete but my next one needs to be a mechanical glider n14 or a cat.On that note good video man u give some honest advice .
Buying a used truck is a massive gamble, especially if you don’t know it’s history. And for $7000 that doesn’t buy much. Heck it doesn’t buy you much of a 4-wheeler either. But good luck and make sure you have a good cash reserve, for the inevitable repairs. Yes, I’ve been down that road and it hurts
I would of bought it and I'm not a trucker. (Grant it I don't know much about rigs). I do hot shot in a pick up and make enough to buy that and turn it over and make a buck. I've done that with other pick ups, buy cheap good body trucks, flip'em, build flat bed on the back, pipe rack, sell'em for a decent buck.
I was looking at buying an 03 Volvo with cummins. when i went to test drive it. truck woudnt start. dude was embarrassed that he couldn't get it to start. so i saw an 2000 fld all the way in the back. truck started right up and it was cold outside.truck didnt smoke and sounded good. had my mechanic check it out and told me to jump on it.bought it for 9,000. only thing I did was oil change and truck is making money.
If you have to pick from a classic xl or an fld 120 which one would you go with because I like both trucks but I like the option of the long square hood I can get from a classic
I've always loved working on things, mainly because I didnt have the money to hire someone lol .When I bought my first truck I started reading all I could about repairing them. Mainly on youtube and Rawze.com.
Good video but Blowby is not the oil passing the rings, its the fuel during the combustion stroke blowing past the rings into the crankcase and venting out the PCV. All Diesels have blowby, alot of compression in them engines too.
True, but if your loosing to much oil with no leaks, same concept. Its going out your exhaust lol May have another name, either way its still a good indictor for a healthy engine
Hello , I'm in Greensboro GA , bought 93 international 8100 , with l-10 Cummings . Got my CDL A year and a half ago . Do not know where to go to start working. Could you point me in the right direction to get started ?

I'd see if CRETE would put you on as after speaking with a 20 year plus trainer of theirs, in his words after a couple to 6 months his co-drivers drove like a 20 year vet themselves. Good luck on it!

When you buy the old trucks though you can't drive in Cali correct? because of some clean air act. So do you miss out on a lot of lost revenue from a large state like that? I'm not a trucker yet i'm asking to learn.
SkilledEddie correct. You'll need a 2010 model year engine or newer. And no, my last truck was a 2011. And just bought another one, a 2014 because I run California. Maybe I should have bought a older one and just stayed local lol
SkilledEddie excuse me, I read that wrong. You will miss out on Cali runs but they don't pay any different than states around it. So you can't go into Cali but your not really missing out on much other than not being able to take those Cali runs

we need more knowledgeable videos like this from experienced truckers. Great Video
Justin Hollins thank you sir and yes, I agree.

Where can I buy for the price?

how much does it cost to get a truck California ready, if it's not?
