      Hey Kent, that "nothing" you speak of is 6-8 times more than they can make in a day where they're from, that's why they work hard. In other words, your fucking "pound" is a 6 or more of their fucking ______. Then they mail that shit home to support a struggling impoverished family while you fucking lazy fucks complain about people that will work harder than you for less. Supply and demand man. Lazy entitled fucks get used to getting paid for less work so they learn to expect it, then when competition comes, they complain. Cry me a river, build a fucking bridge, and get over it you fucking wanker.

    Coming from the aviation community, you NEVER question a pilot if he says that he isn't safe to fly. You honor his decision to either cancel the flight, or find a replacement pilot. There is no explanation involved, no negotiating. The pilot is in command of his aircraft, and if he decides he isn't safe to fly, then he isn't safe. No repercussions. No amount of "manning up" can get you past sleep deprivation, fatigue, or a circadian rhythm imbalance. The NTSB and the Navy Safety Center have literal tons of data on this, and at this point it has been a proven fact.

      A place to start is the Navy's aviation manual, pages 8-13 and 8-14 address circadian rhythm/desynchrony, as well as flight time limitations. Note: this instruction can be differed from "should operational necessity dictate." Operational necessity is a big deal, and happens rarely. Flying a transport flight would not be considered "operationally necessary" www.public.navy.mil/airfor/vaw120/Documents/CNAF%20M-3710.7_WEB.PDF

    • @Joe-bm4wx
      @Joe-bm4wx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The second place to look is FAR 121.533. This states that EITHER the dispatcher OR the pilot in command can cancel a flight entirely at their discretion alone. This is federal law, and the airline cannot question the decision of their pilot. www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/14/121.533

The company screwed him and you think he was successful enough in being safe to thank him?? He was trying, which is thankful, but you can't thank him for being safe because the situation wasn't safe. If you cared about drivers on the road, you would thank him for trying and curse the company for putting him in that situation.

    I went into trucking school. Passed the minimal schooling with flying colors.
    Was sent out on my first week with a Trainer. Never driven anything CLOSE to that size before....day 2 I am heading through the Rockies.(personally...I think that is just stupid, but whatever). I got to the top...and pulled over at the break check point. My trainer/instructor took over. Said I was good for the day...was proud that I drove for triple the amount of time he expected on day 2. I noticed however...I got incredibly tired going up into the Rockies. Thought it was due to poor sleep/getting accustomed to sleeping in the truck cabin. You know.
    Coming back through the Rockies at the end of the week. Around...4-5k feet...the fatigue started to hit. I had gotten GOOD rest...so I knew it wasn't that. Some time after that...not sure how long. Everything in my vision began to shrink. Still full field of view...but everything started to look smaller. Told my instructor he had to take over...told him what was happening.
    I say all this because of what my trainer said to me afterwards. "I'm proud of you that you called it. You knew something was wrong and stopped instead of continuing on. I know alot of drivers that would keep going...and kill somebody. You did good. Always do that."
    I left the business the next morning because what I experienced was a vertigo and panic and anxiety attack induced by Altitude sickness. My brain doesn't like high elevation apparently.
    I will never forget my trainer though. Straight up told me to ignore everyone outside the truck. None of them matter when it comes to keeping yourself alive. Fuck the dispatchers...fuck the bosses...fuck everyone not behind the wheel. Those fuckers in the office aren't going to keep you alive at 3am...only you are.

Sounds like everyone you talked with on the phone was either completely dissociated from reality or had zero regard for your safety and the safety of others. I get it, it's a business and must be run as such. But what's worse? Delivering a load a few hours late or killing someone because the dispatchers wouldn't let you sleep. I never knew this problem existed.

    If a trucker was to give in to the humilation and threats, then decide to drive, then kills someone, who do you think gets charged and goes to prison for manslaughter or negligent homicide? Not the dispatcher. The trucking company can get fined or even put out of business if youre smart enough to record these calls, but if you dont record them, the companies will let you take the fall 100%, and you will merely be replaced. I would tell the dispatcher that if he wants laws and safety regulations to be broken for the load, to get his ass into a truck and take the risk himself. A job or paycheck isnt worth going to prison or dying for. The dispatchers should have been fired.

    I'm a dispatcher for DHL Supply Chain and I applaud you for not giving in to these guys. The first priority, over everything else, is SAFETY. You are the professional driver. You are the shot caller within your truck. If you say it isn't safe for you to continue, then it isn't safe. The load is not more important than your life or the lives of the people on the road around you. The men that you talked to on the phone are absolutely wrong in this situation. If you disagree, then think about if it was your family member who is hurt/killed in an accident involving a 40,000+ pound truck whose operator fell asleep behind the wheel. What if it was your mother, or your child? You wouldn't be so steadfast in your opinion.

      Capitalism = profits over lives

    • @observingrogue7652
      @observingrogue7652 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. In true Capitalism. Bad companies = Bad Public Relations & Reputation = no one wants to do business with them, no one wants to work for them = Bad companies whither & die.
      And with pure Capitalism, there's no government to bail them out, forcing us to pay for them, with the money stolen through taxes. And with no government, there's no monopolies, meaning they can't force people to do business with them. And there would be no government to bribe, through lobbying, to make them the only option for an area, state, or even the whole country.
      This is what Libertarianism & Anarcho-Capitalism, are all about. In real capitalism, that company's options are to be good, in every way, or go bankrupt.
      This great Trucker is right. If your current employer is bad, you can work for someone else. Depending on the business you're in, you can even start your own business, and be independent.
      We need more honest, brave, and clever Journalists, and Whistleblowers, like this Trucker, and Edward Snowden.
      If this Trucker didn't do what he did, that company would still be getting away with shit like that. And if he did crash, and killed himself, or others, HE would have gotten blamed, and his bosses would have swept that conversation under the rug, and probably would have slandered him and or distanced themselves from the Trucker, to preserve the reputation of themselves, and the company.
      Oh, and with no government. There would be no unfair taxes, fines, fees, regulations, laws, and patents. Companies would be even less likely, to be so nasty to their workers, on top of risking being exposed as pieces of shit.
      Reputation would be as important as money, and they would't do anything evil or stupid, to risk that.
      Like screwing with the sleep cycles of a driver, threatening & bullying him to keep driving, when he is warning them he is falling asleep. Then tricking the fucking police, to wake him up.
      His bosses, maybe even their bosses too, should be fired, or punished in some way.
      Yes, when running a business, in a way, you do have to treat workers like machines. And like any machine, they have to be efficiently utilized, and taken care of.
      If People In Management Positions, can't do that. Then they don't deserve to be PIMPs.

I COULD NOT refuse a load from the start due to me fearing fir my job, nor was I in an unsafe condition when I initially picked up the load. Doesn't matter who created the issue, the point is that the issue arose and they tried to force him to drive UNSAFE. I'm concerned to be on the road with their trucks now. Abe also has said that they threaten his job if he refuses loads. He was put in a lose lose situation. They cannot put that kind of pressure on their drivers.

Fresh air and caffeine do not replace needed sleep. He did his best to deliver the load cause if he would have refused it he may of been fired. That is unacceptable pressure on drivers.

    When a dispatcher told me to drive in an unsafe condition, especially if I was sleepy, I told them that I wasn’t comfortable with driving and if there was a problem with it, we can talk to the safety manager about it.
    Dispatchers don’t give a damn about your safety not the passengers. All they’re concerned about are the loads getting there in a timely manor.
    So to any drivers out there, especially new drivers, don’t jeopardize your license, your life, nor anyone else’s life over a load. YOUR LOAD IS NOT WORTH YOUR LIFE!!

      It always depends on what he's delivering, maybe furniture, groceries or whatever that need to be on-time for opening hours which in the end will cost OTHER companies money and giving his truck company a bad reputation AAAND cost them even more money.
      It's a very harsh job which should be taken seriously, safety always comes first but keep in mind that safety usually costs too. It's kind of inhumane because these problems would still occur even if he crashed and killed someone

    The last dispatcher is the epitome of a narcissistic sociopath. Then using the police to wake a driver. How much lower can they go? Misuse of the emergency 911 system is punishable with arrest. If the truckers would be honest with the police maybe a good officer will have them arrested for doing so in the future. The threats were childish and unbecoming of this asshole while using his children as examples. Then he brings your wife in the coversation trying to shame you about a $ penalty that will cost you your check. What a screwed up world. I can be fired for perceived racism or maybe a sexist comment, but encouraging someone to drive a 70,000 lb piece of machinery while falling asleep with threats and intimidation warrants a talking to. Not like anything happened. They didn't do anything "wrong" in regards to the law. In fact, the law that screwed over truckers was passed by the federal government that changed the per mile pay to per hour. This makes it so truckers 'slow down' to earn more, putting more pressure on the employers to manage them.
      There is always more to the story than you think. Also.. this guy just slept for 8-10 hours... how much more does he need? If I called into work and told them it wouldn't be safe for me to operate the forklift for the day because I was tired, then I'd likely be canned.

      Your forklift isn't on the freeway going at 50 to 70mph. If you doze off on your forklift you're not barreling down a road at people in other vehicles.
      This guy slept for 8-10 hours, woke up to drive for 20 minutes and drop off his cargo and was told to take another 10 hour break and he couldn't sleep. After that he had to drive a few hundred miles which would be another 6 to 10 hours. That's practically 20 hours of break time. It's only reasonable that he couldn't fall back asleep after already sleeping for 10 hours prior.

    • @TwiigssGames
      @TwiigssGames 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have said, "I just had a 10 hour break, I slept for 9 hours, so how about I go pickup the load, make my way to the destination and halfway, let me get that other 10 hour break" Or, isn't there someway you could just get in quick little power naps? And what works for waking me up if I'm tired, coffee. I don't do the energy drinks.
      Overall, if that would have been me where you are sitting, I would have told him, I'm going to get a coffee, make my way to the destination, drop off the load, and then I would call them back with, you can take this effing job and cram it!!! I'm sick of being disrespected, especially by any form of management, HR, etc. And what a prick, "don't try" Sorry, all I can do is try. Which means, I will do whatever I can, to the best of my ability, to get the job done. If I say, YES! I can get it done, and I don't get the job done, then that's lying.

      I can vouch for the exact same opposite. I used to work in the oilfield and you would get FIRED instantly if the system recorded you driving longer than 3 hours without a 15 minute break or drive for more than 8 hours in a 24h time window. If the driver was tired you could phone your supervisor and tell them that you needed a nap or pull over and get some sleep, if for some reason your supervisor told you "that's just oilfield" you could report him and his ass would be on the street the next day. I think the problem with the truck industry is that the profit is not so high, so every hour counts, when you deal with bigger amounts of profit, (over 100k$ per job) then they are more lenient. The company was also a multinational with reputation to protect and strict driving policies, so I guess that's a big factor. I can only vouch for my experience though, if you know more about other industries that require driving please share.

      The only thing that would work for a 4-hour drive when you're falling asleep would be amphetamines, because they force your brain to dump lots of neurotransmitters to wake you back up...which is probably why there are so many truckers who are addicted to amphetamines.

    I have been a truck driver for almost 2 decades, and I will tell any and every truck driver to stand your ground! The moronic dispatchers like to claim that a late load is a catastrophe, yet they can easily reschedule the load if the truck breaks down. This is an example of how sick our society is in the Soviet U.S.S.A, and probably in many other western countries as well! If a machine breaks down; bosses and dispatches do not lecture it, or threaten to fire it, or try to punish it; they get the machine fixed and move on. Yet, when something happens to a human: All of the above takes place in many companies! Why....; ....that driver must be punished!!!
    What a sick society we live in! I am no longer young and foolish. Nowadays I would tell the dispatcher that I will be late in a case like yours! Dispatchers are liars anyway, so they can lie again to someone over the phone! My present company doesn't play that shit on their drivers.

      What Numira was saying is that the "Soviet USSA" joke doesn't make sense because what he is describing is a problem in capitalism and not socialism/ Communism. Two separate things with their own issues. One could argue that if it we're socialist he wouldn't be in an over worked state that he is now. That said, he could also take advantage of socialism. No one really wins.

    All big companies - trucking or not - do this to some degree. Doing this to truckers is just particularly dangerous because of the nature of the job. Lots of retail companies will schedule an 8 to 10 hour day for someone, stretching into the night (10 or 11 PM), and then schedule them for another 8 to 10 hour shift early the next morning (5 or 6 AM). Not quite the same thing, but similar. It's just people taking advantage of workers, and knowing that if you don't do it, they can get rid of you and hire someone else that will. It's unfair, it's cruel, and in your case, it's dangerous.

Truckers seemed to be some really lonely people. They were always happy to tell stories of their trips. But some companies treated them, just like poster of this video said, like machines. Is there a union for truckers? If not, there should be. Truckers operate big ass machinery that would flatten anything and a tired trucker is not a safe trucker. Hope this gets fixed.

    Abe, I respect you so much for making this video, even if you weren’t experienced enough to know what to say. I’ve experienced exactly what you’ve gone through: you have a full night’s rest, you work for a short period of time and they expect you to do another full reset (where you can’t possibly sleep) and then have you drive another 4-11 hours.
    I’ve learned in this industry: less words === clearer communication. I’d be really curious to see you post an update video on what you’ve learned in the last decade this was uploaded.
    Me personally, if I have to call I’m saying “I’m tired, going to sleep, I expect to drop at such-and-such time”. If they have a problem with that, say “I can’t do two resets back-to-back”. These guys don’t care if you can sleep or not - if it was them, they would make something work even if it meant stopping to sleep for 30 minutes here or there - these guys are immoral monsters.
    I’ve talked to countless ignorant drivers who will say, “You had 10 hours and you couldn’t sleep?” ignoring the fact that you just did another 10 hour reset some hours before your second one. It’s always a lot cheaper to sleep than to lose your career, for you and your employer. You’re not meant to be awake for more than 15 hours, and these guys are running you awake for upwards of 40 hours if they figure out how to pull it off.
    These guys are basically janitors that can’t clean toilets, and you’re the manager being polite and doing their job for them. A good manager does the toilets for the employees he oversees, and a better manager knows when it’s safer to sleep.
    I would have straight up told the police that you can’t physically drive because the company made you sleep for 20 hours back to back.
