    When you stop and think about this song in its entirety, it tells me that Eddie Hazel's guitar experience was quite extensive and in-depth. One doesn't just pickup a guitar and begin playing with such complexity in-terms of careful thought of arrangement of notes played. I wonder who taught him during his early years of learning and development? I do know from my research that he and childhood friend Billy who was learning to play bass guitar, learned from each other. Also, I discovered that Eddie started learning how to play at approx age 12 or 13, and at age 17 his Mother gave him permission to play and travel with Parliament (the Doo Woop) vocal group, whom would later become Parliament-Funkadelic. Great tutorial posted, I can and do REALLY APPRECIATE the time, energy and effort it took to do so. Lastly, like many of you fellow guitar players and aspiring players, I too, am determined to learn how to play and and master this song, and in doing so, I'm sure that it will provide creativity in other areas to come. Thank you 🎶🎼🎸💥🔥🎵🥂🙏🏿 Btw, I'm age 69, so when the Maggot Brain album was released I bought the album. This album was a major force in Black music. Much 💟 Jason Reed 👍🏿

      it's weird that I can only find 2 other songs that has the same vibe ("Wayne" and "Before the beginning" by John Frusciante). Being such a legendary guitar solo song, I'm shocked not many other guitarists has created similar kind of songs.

    A brilliant tutorial!!! I bought this album when I was 11 in 1972 and it is one of my most played albums..... I was intrigued by the cover and it played a major part in influencing me to switch from Cello to guitar..... In a way though you sort of can't learn it as it has to come from your soul....
    Good old Eddie Hazel - massively underrated..... My son is called Edward!!

    Tis all good learning the licks (thanks Jason for this comprehensive lesson) but end of the day Maggot Brain was an emotional jam by Eddie, imagining as George Clinton suggested that his mother had just died. If your going to play this tune, I think the best most honest way is to feel it and let what ever comes come.

    Now wouldn't mind a lesson on the solo's on Red Hot Mama and the live version of Cosmic Slop from the Hardcore Jollies album, keep up the good work.

    Can you make a video on how to tune your guitar for this song. I have it down my guitar just isn’t tuned right and I’ve never had lessons, pretty much just a self learner so idk what I’m doing

    What amp setting are you using?

    Which pickup are you using on your telecaster, just the bridge?

      Pretty sure it's in the middle position here. I've got a Tele and i can hear that glassy neck pickup, but it's too bright to be just the neck.

    Why have I never seen these chords played this way, ie. Four fingers for an E minor?

    How long does it take for one’s fingers to get used to those bends? I have been practicing for like two weeks and they are still killing me :(

    • @Nile8765
      @Nile8765 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you will probably still need time or you are doing it wrong

    • @johnlindsaygreen8547

      By practicing basic guitar chords ten minutes a day for three weeks or a month will help to buildup callouses on your finger tips, then the pain goes away. In fact, you probably are beyond this stage since you posted this question a couple years ago. I started re-learning on an acoustic guitat which had a thicker gauge set of strings than both of my electric guitars, so when I switch over to my electric guitars I find that my finger strength is much stronger. Wow who knew. Lol
