Thanks for your review videos, man! I think I've watched about 50+ hrs of your videos in the past 2 weeks or so, trying to decide Reolink vs Lorex vs Eufy. I think I've finally ready to pull the trigger...
First time poster from Australia, loving your videos. I’m hoping the new RLC-833A and the doorbell (when available) are going to be good matches for this light, with their IoT feature, supplementing the cameras light, like you said previously, maybe from the side more than 10ft away. It also looks like you can link one camera to more than one IoT floodlight, which would be great to light up a long side passage or large yard.
Seems like the Duo Floodlight doesn't have the standalone Floodlight options to decrease and increase brightness upon motion which would be great. Another feature I believe is missing to turn on the light on a scheduled time of the day to automatically turn on upon the selected type of motion.
I need this! This will replace my Arlo Floodlight camera. Never had a good solution for light on the side on my house so the Arlo Floodlight was it. This is such a better option. I’m waiting for the duo 2 floodlight though since I still want a camera too.
I can't find the answer, can this light be turned off to have a night picnic in the back yard without the spot light coming on ? thank you ! keep the videos coming.
Reolink has some really great products, and this, one is no exception. This will go well with my trackmix. Also, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks…again ..nice video. Can you tell me if the camera is mounted separately, will it activate the light? I realize you stated the light activates the camera…but wanting to know if the camera can activate the light….does it work both ways like Ring? Thanks!
@lifehackster Love your videos, it’s my number one place to get security tech advice. Just wanna check that the floodlight still works if the Wi-Fi went down or is jammed. Does the motion detector still pick up movement and come on? I would have bought a Eufy floodlight cam but not so sure that a good idea anymore.
Any chance you can post a quick update on these floodlights looking to purchase them along with reolink's RLC-833A cameras. Also For the WiFi version is that power cord rated to be ran 3' inside a wall to an attic?
I really haven't tested a lot of IR emitters because the ones that are being sold needs to be plugged in (12 volts). I wish they make some that are solar powered...anyways, I usually suggest just get a WIFI camera..even battery powered ones and when they get triggered at night, they will emit their own IR and will help your other cameras plus you have an extra or backup footage from that camera.
Reolink is killing vs Ring.. This light is very bright and should be all what most need.. I would go with a poe Version with separated power into a Tp-link Poe Extender.
Hi, thanks for the informative video. I searched a bit and didnt found an answer yet, is it possible to just turn the light manually on and off, or does this only works with the three modi? Thanks for answering.
Heej Hackster! Thnx for the video! I have bought the floodlight and the trackmix, what is the best position for the camera relative to the floodlight getting the best view and avoiding overexposure
Using the app, can the user speak through the speaker in the floodlight? Asking because I'd want to pair it with a camera that doesn't have speaker, and I'd like to be able to speak to the person.
Its cold down there right now huh? Maybe its a good time to test if devices truly work at the temperatures that they claim. Maybe you could add that in future videos? Put the devices in the freezer or in the oven for a little while.
I have some Reolink cams, battery and POE. I like them. They've been working well in the cold, down to about minus 18 F, better than their rated reliability at 14 F. Battery cameras work below freezing temps. But the problem is batteries in general, whatever the device, do not charge good below freezing. I need to bring the cams inside to warm up, then charge them. I've heard solar panels won't charge battery cams below freezing but I don't have a solar panel to verify this. In summer I haven't had any problems with cameras in the heat, hottest temp around 105 F that I recall.
I wish it has that feature…but the best setup for this is to place the floodlight around 10 feet farther than the cameras because the Duo 2 and the trackmix have their own lights and don’t need that extra light at close range…I might do another video showing effective placement of lights and IR lights to improve video quality of the cameras.
Hey Hackster, would love you to get your hands on the poewit flood light and do a review on them. Their floodlights do POE passthrough so you can power a camera and light with one cable!
Great review brother. I have a question for you. I'm currently looking to buy a surveillance system from reolink but I can't seem to get anyone on the phone to consult with. How do you get in touch with them?
Greetings from Torrance! Hope everything has been well for you. I really like the fact that it can be powered over ethernet. Maybe it can be used as a stand a lone light? I will keep an eye out for this and hope that it can be used with other Reolink cameras. A lot of criminals like to work in the dark, anything that can deter them or even just get a better picture of them or their car is a big help. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
I'm about to order probably 2 of the wifi versions. I'm curious if using a proper male/female adapter I can just plug them into existing Barrel connectors I have for power (the kind that have bnc/power) on them.
I wish they would come out with a wifi version that can be connected to a junction box. I have been looking to replace my backyard light with something that has a little more intelligence. This and/or the version with the integrated Duo camera would fit the bill nicely. I just don't like the idea of having to run a long power cord when a perfectly good junction box is available for power.
@@LifeHackster I'm sure it wouldn't be allowed by the NEC, but I contemplated splicing the DC converter plug into the junction box. Not sure if it could get it all to fit safely.
@lifehackster I just got the Duo Floodlight Wi-Fi and the PoE and can confirm, no junction box mounting/120v home power option. I contemplated installing an outlet or 12v LED power supply in the junction box and a junction box cover to mount the floodlight to, routing the Ethernet/power cable through the plate into the plug/12v power supply… I worry about weatherproofing but more so the amount of extra work just to make these products work when other floodlight cameras from Eufy, Ring, Wyze, etc have junction box mounting natively. I’m actually already decided to return the ones I have because of this. But I’d love to see you try mounting the Duo Floodlight to a junction box with house power. Shouldn’t be more than $10-$30 mod…just shouldn’t have had to 😂
@@ClarsSeesStars - I knew it... one good thing though about 12 volts is it is low voltage and you can run it through a wall or under the eaves without breaking any electrical codes. Mine is currently in transit and I'll be checking and testing it out when it comes in. Thanks for the update and heads up.
I have the Trac mix wifi version on the front of my house and was going to mount the flood light on the side of the house and link them can they be linked with just Wi-Fi?
Good video. Been wondering when they would come up with a easy way to do this. Been doing this for a good while now with google cameras, Home Assistant and smart z-wave light switch, but its not easy to set up but with zones can get the lights to come on only when they step into the yard which is only a couple of feet from the walkway people use all the time.
Ideally, you need a POE+ switch that can support 30w on each port. (ex: Netgear GS305EPP) Regular POE+ switch have a maximum of 60 watts total on 4 port. If you use 1 port, you will get 30w but if all 4 are use at the same time, it is divided by 4 = 15w per port which is not enough power for this floodlight. I think this one is listed at 25w. Hope that helps
@@rylie4495 so it’s weird how they have it set up I had to get a POE+ switch to be able to control it through the app and not plugged in to the NVR if it’s plugged into the NVR than you have to only use it that way if you get a POE plus switch then you can control it through the app
@@joshuahaney1135 Thank you for this Information! I have a camera through Reolink The Reolink Track Mix that has dual camera and on the NVR it will show both Cameras the Wide Angle and the Telephoto but when I look at the app the only view I can see is the Wide Angle but no Telephoto. Now I wonder if I hook it up through a POE Switch if it will show both through the app?
Does anyone know if you can connect these to Spectrum routers that have 2.4ghz/5ghz. Spectrum says their routers are automatic between the 2 frequency and can't be set on a specific one. Would the camera automatically just connect to the 2.4ghz??
