  • In this video I do a tour of a van that my Dad has recently finished converting, a Nissan eNV 200. A 100% electric compact campervan.
    The van has an 24kW battery pack as standard providing a range of approximately 100 miles. An additional 5 kW Lithium Battery pack has also been added in the back of the van. This serves 2 purposes. Firstly to provide power for the camping appliances such as the induction cooker, lights, dometic fridge and inverter. Secondly, power can also be diverted from this boost pack to charge the main drive pack providing an additional 15 miles of range. The van is also fitted with a 140 Watt solar panel and MPPT charger controller to help keep things topped up.

    This is by far the best conversion I have seen, thank you for sharing.
    Is there a blog and or part list for the build anywhere please?
    the rear electrical system is genius and I would like to - no need to be able to replicate this including the under bonnet charging port

    Great video, and a really thoughtful conversion. I'm curious that the van has no insulation at all - was this a decision made because it's only going to be used in warmer weather, or is it the case that because the car heater is so good (and can be left on when parked) there is no need for insulation? Thanks!

    you can replace the battery in these for a 40kwh version. Literally plug and play. Theres a few companies that do it and it doesnt cost a huge amount

      I can't afford to buy a new van with the higher kwh battery, and am looking purely at older second hand ones. I have been wondering how easy it would be to swap the battery on an older one. Thank you. 💜

    I love this little van. I'd probably prefer a hammock option under the pop top. Anyone know if the vehicle tax is free as its an electric van?

    How does the van's 12V battery under the bonnet recharge? Does it charge during driving, from the van's main drive batteries, like an alternator and petrol/diesel engine does, or does it charge via the EV charge station, or is it on all the time? I take it Nissan must put a dc-dc charger and stepdown between the two batteries, if they are separate systems?

    Hello, thanks for the review. Can you tell me what is the range of that van if she were loaded with 400 kg every day in a working day? In city work. Thanks and greettings from Portugal

      Hi, thanks for watching! So 400kg is probably isn't too dissimilar from the weight added by the camper conversion so range would be about 85 miles (136km). Bear in mind this van is the 24kW version. There is a 40kW milage that will do around 140 miles (225km). Hope that helps 👍

    Why not run everything off the electric vehicle's battery? It doesn't seem like a battery and solar are really needed here, right?

      Then you'd be eating into your already limited range

      70 mile range dropped to 50 with the heater on. In the UK campsites are usually out in the sticks, rural or by beaches and possibly not too close to recharge the main van battery. I live in Somerset and charging points are few and far between… unless you go in the motorway charging point… If the van's range were to improve with newer models perhaps it wouldn't be such an issue…

      I know this was posted several months back but just wanted to add that Nissan would also void the warranty, if one were to 'mess' with the vehicle's battery pack.

      Hi Keiran. My dad just knew. He's clever cookie and has done a few van conversions in the past and works for a company that sells battery packs, converters chargers etc. I'm sure he'd be more that happy to give you some pointers of needs be!

      Hi,
      Drivelodge pop top: £2,500
      Windows : £800
      Crash Tested Bed: £2000. I went for £800 Cheap Bed. Also narrower.
      Dometic Fridge: £450
      Induction Hob: £120
      Lithium Pack & Inverter / Charger: £3000. Boost pack another £1,000
      Swivel Seat £120
      Everything else : £800 (no furniture kits available so bought the lightweight ply and built myself.

      Not sure, they're been in Europe for over 4 years!!...perhaps it could depend on who gets elected next week...according to Mr Trump, climate change is a hoax so there's no need for electric vehicles 😂

      Hi. Yhh it was pretty much finished , I filmed a van tour which is coming very soon!....i have since decided i no longer want a fixed bed so ripped that out and am going to reconfigure the van a bit...starting to think it'll never truly be finished ha!

    I am considering do this with a 40kW version. In a comment below I think you said the conversion cost £5k including the pop top and additional batteries is that correct?

      Hi Nick. Yes, I think it makes even more sense now that more vans are available with the bigger battery packs! Just had a quick tot up, £6k excluding additional battery and boost pack. (Another £4k spent on this). Cheers!
