Campervan Sub Floor Install - Battens / Insulation / Ply. Fiat Ducato Camper Conversion
In this video I install the subfloor in the van. For those new to the channel, I'm converting a Fiat Ducato L3H2 into a campervan (same as Ram Promater, Citroen Relay & Peugeot Boxer).

How to Install Dometic Micro Heki Rooflight Fiat Ducato Camper/Citroen Relay/Peugeot Boxer/ Skylight
มุมมอง 12K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I install a Dometic Mirco Heki Rooflight (skylight). This is pretty similar to the Dometic Heki Mini that I previously installed. The micro measures 280x280mm as opposed to the mini which measures 400x400mm. The dometic Heki Mini Skylight (Rooflight) is great for installing inside bathroom compartments and offer ventilation as well as additional natural light. I used mastic sealan...
Sportscraft Offset Swivel Seat Install // Ducato, Relay, Boxer // Camper Conversion
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show how to install a Sportscraft Offset Swivel Plate to enable you to swivel the front seat (passenger or driver) in a Fiat Ducato, Citroen Relay, Peaugeot Boxer or Ram Promaster. I bought this swivel from Jackson's Leisure for £144 however you can get them cheaper, I've seat them at swivel-seats.com for £109. The swivel base is TUV approved, weight 15kg and will add 25mm of he...
Camper Conversion Tear Out // Starting Again! // Fiat Ducato
มุมมอง 1.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
For those that have followed the channel for a while, you'll know that a couple of years ago I converted a Fiat Ducato (Peugeot Boxer, Citroen Relay, Ram Promaster) into a campervan. This was my first ever van conversion and I certainly learnt a lot, there was a lot of things that I would do differently If I ever did it again!... Over the past year there's also been some water leaks from the ro...
How to Remove the Headlining / Fiat Ducato / Ram Promaster / Citroen Relay / Peugeot Boxer
มุมมอง 22K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show you how to remove the headlining (roof lining above the cab) in my Fiat Ducato L3H2 Van. The process would be the same if you've got a Ram Promaster, Citroen Relay or Peugeot Boxer. I've had a water leak in my van, so everything has become a bit damp and mouldy. So the headlining needs to come out for 2 reasons: 1) So that I can clean the mould off of it 2) So that I can pr...

Tongue & Groove Effect Panelling
มุมมอง 3.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show a way to create a tongue & groove effect on a plywood panel that I made for my bath. This was the trial run for using it for the wall panels in my next camper conversion. This method can be done instead of using actual tongue and groove cladding for ease of install and. Plywood is also less susceptible to splitting coming with pine tongue and groove and is also better at ho...
3 BIG THINGS I GOT WRONG // FIAT DUCATO CAMPER CONVERSION (RAM PROMASTER)
มุมมอง 3.7K3 ปีที่แล้ว
So the time has come to sell my van (Fiat Ducato L3H2 - same as Ram Promaster, Citroen Relay & Peugeot Boxer)...but before I do that I'm going to rebuild it, implementing all the things that I learnt first time round. In this Video I cover the 3 big things that i got wrong and why I would do them differently second time round.
Van Tour // Fiat Ducato // Ram Promaster // 4 Berth // Off-Grid
มุมมอง 7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I finally publish a long overdue video... my van tour! The van has been finished for around a year now so it's about time that I share the end product with you all! So the base vehicle is a 2012 Fiat Ducato L3H2 (that's the same as a Ram Promaster for those viewers in the US). The aim of the van was to be able to seat and sleep 4 adults (4 Berth) and also be equipped for going off Grid for 3/4 ...
How to Use Layers in SketchUp // Van Life Design // SketchUp Tutorial Ep.3
มุมมอง 9094 ปีที่แล้ว
In this third episode in the sketchup tutorial mini-series, I look at Layers. Using layers in your sketchup models can give you a lot more control over what you can see and what you can't see. I previously looked at the hide and unhide tool. Layers effectively offer a similar solution but you can assign specific layers to certain components or parts of your model. This means that you can hide a...
Van Winterisation // The Tank Blanket // Stop Your Tanks From Freezing!!
มุมมอง 5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I show how I prepared my van for a recent trip to the French Alps for a snowboarding trip and the sub-zero temperature that I encountered there. This is the first part in a mini series of hour to winterise (winterize) your van. In this first episode (Ep.1) I run through the product that I chose to stop my underslung grey water tank from freezing. I decided to go with a product cal...
Van Windows // Don't Buy Glass Windows!! // 4 Reason Why!
มุมมอง 13K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In the video I voice something that I feel quite strongly about. And that is the topic of van windows and why you shouldn't install glass windows! I installed some glass windows as many self converters do. I think this is a MASSIVE mistake for 4 main reasons as I discuss in the video: 1) Thermal conductivity 2) Blinds 3) Security 4) Water Ingress & Ventilation The dometic range of acrylic windo...

Thank you! Very useful!
You could really get big in the next couple years, as the global economy declines and people are more inclined to go “on the road” My thoughts are for you to stick with it - time flies & next thing you know, subscribers multiply then the YT money shows up. And keep building and sharing. Great info, no waste of viewers time. Like your build & your style. 👏
very clear explanation.
Where did you get your closed cell adhesive foam?
Danke dir für das Video, die Software ist super. ;)
One of the greatest videos ever created! Learnt a lot. Thanks! Keep up the good work and dont listen to the haters!
Hi, I'm currently installing a Medi Heki 700x500 in my Ford Transit Connect LWB, but I'm facing an issue with the roof profile, which bends in an arch of about 25 mm. This curvature makes it challenging to secure the Medi Heki frame tightly to the roof. I'm looking for any experiences, thoughts, or suggestions for inspiration. Right now, I'm experimenting with wooden frames for the interior that match the roof's profile, but I'm still struggling with the outer fitting of the Medi Heki frame, which leaves a gap due to the roof's bending. All the best; Cheers!
Does it lock in position when swivelled? or only in the driving position
How did you do the batten along the sliding door edge please (this is lower than the ridges so wouldn’t naturally be flush with the rest of your battens?)
The clear cab light cover just clips off with a screwdriver.
Thx very useful !
Hey, came across your video as I am currently looking at purchasing the micro heki. Just wondered if you've had any leaking issues since installing? I saw another video about cleaning the plastic frame (don't think it was the heki) with dishwashing liquid and maybe even sanding it to create a better grip for the sealant, as they originally didn't and had some leaks. Thanks
@jamesdeUK no issues with leaks. However when doing any bonding I would recommend that both surfaces are clean. Sanding not required in this instance but clean the roof with soapy water, dry it, then clean with a solvent e.g. isopropyl alcohol and you should be sweet.
@@sampayne6318 Many thanks :)
Glass windows comes with the fly screen You shouldn’t worry ab insulation at all in such a small space And also acrylic windows scratch soo quick and the most important is to look through acrylic and then look through glass :)
Thanks 👍
Thx, Really useful.
Glad it was helpful!
Anyone know is there some sort of a conversion kit to use on an older t5 (04) so that it might accommodate the newer style of radio fixing as shown in this video? Thanks.
I just don't understand why everyone uses timber to frame it. I got a different brand and theres no mention of making a frame in the instructions. I'm just afraid to cut my hole out and not know the depth of timber frame to make😂
Every model is made for a certain roof thickness. E.g. 23-60mm. So you need to make a frame to create that thickness, the rooflight sandwiches the wood together. At least that's how I understand it😅
@@hannevb5983 Ye I've mine done now a while. Took a bit of thinking lol.. in basically needs to match up with your own ceiling what ever depth that may be
Excellent video and clearly explained
Glad you think so!
Brilliant video. Really helpful. Thanks for taking the time
I wouldn't worry about security because if someone wants to break in, then they will do. Also, a bonded glass window adds torsional rigidity to the vehicle, as with the front windscreen which adds 34%.
use hilti foam. way better than soudal
Had the same problem with water getting in from the radio aerial Base which is an easy fix but there's so much to remove and put back again.
Tnx m8 😊
Shame but the constant moving camera made me feel sick
How did you insulate the floor
Hey super helpful! What size cable did you run for the blanket?
One of the best videos!!! Knowledgeable and straight to the point. Thank you!!×
Curious if you do anything to insulate over the wooden rib things. Are you attaching your cabinates etc to the wood or somehow through the insulation to the metal ribs. Cheers
Please notify myself and others once you post part 2.
Very useful information. Thank you!
Quite the construction work 😂
Wait aren’t you supposed to put the foil side to the outside???
It has it on both sides.
HI Sam, thx for the video. How are you after that year with the ductape adaption of the roof? Would you stil reccomend this? and why do you write that forced ventilation is just for caravans? were thinking to get one with forced ventialation for our ducato since we bring a lot of humidity inside due to sports and wet dog....
Hi. Forced ventilation is not recommended for van conversions as the ventilation holes can whistle as you drive along (not a issue for a caravan as you're not in it when it's moving). Hope this helps. Cheers
@@sampayne6318 thanks for the reply! will do my installation of a micro and mini heki next week. found it really helpful how you adapted the roof with the butil sealing tape. Would you do anything different now after your year of testing?
Thanks for info about other site who sells them cheaper, but as @willyskipper said it's a scam, they add VAT on top of the listed price. Even if it's still cheaper than elsewhere I wont use them because of these practices.
DUDE!...your carpentry is horrendous! Leaves the rest of the job VERY suspect!
Thanks for your positive vibes, have a great day!
@utoobuser206 Why not give some constructive pointers, then we can all learn. What's the point of an empty insult?
Dude... your life is horrendous! Sort it out before commenting about people's carpentry on TH-cam. Absolutely tragic.
Did you manage to find the source of the water ingress in your cab light ?
Radio aerial!
Where did you get the frame? 🙏🙏
Yeah I’m wondering that also.
Good job Sam I am about to tackle the very same task, now I know what is in front of me, from Pete down under thanks a lot
Hi Sam. Did you know about Elddis's idea of Winterising a motorhome. We have a 2019 Elddis 155 Supreme. Last January we headed to Glenmore near Aviemore. We weren't concerned about low temperatures as our van has this winterising pack fitted (see my channel 'Glenmore in Winterwonderland'.) Needless to say everthing that could freeze - did! The most it got down to was minus 4 or 5 degees c which isn't a lot. With what looks like bubble wrap on each tank stuck with duct tape and not one hint of pipe insulation it's no wonder we had trouble. Waste water outlet pipe froze first then the washbasin waste, then the kitchen sink waste and then the cold water from the tank stopped pumping through. We managed with bottled water and a seperate outside waste tank that we poured sink water into. We had to wait for the weather to warm for it all to eventually thaw and start working again. God, when it all thawed out it felt like sheer luxury lol. I'm a retired plumber and used to sorting bursts and insulating pipes so you can imagine how frustrated I was. I felt helpless. Your kitchen sink waste pipe goes down in a big dip. This will be holding water that can freeze. It needs clipping flat to the bottom of your van floor. But you may then find bad smells come wafting from the tank as the dipping pipe is acting like a trap. You can't win unless you pop the plug in the waste in the sink. Ours are the same. On the Elddis production line who ever does the plumbing on these vans must have absolutely no idea at all. The pipes go up and down everywhere. Do this in a house and you'll have problems. Elddis are getting away with murder. There are supposed to be two heaters in the side of the tanks. We had these turned on. I don't think they work. The van is out of warranty which is annoying. We'll probabley be going again next January (gluttons for punishment) Thanks for the video.
Acrylic cracks. Polycarbonate is ten times stronger and don't creack. They just dent.
Hi Sam, thinking of replacing my ariel with a DAB one, would you need to remove the headlining to get at this or can you access it once the light is removed? thanks
Thanks for the video, I wonder: do you always close the tap of the gas tank (at night, while driving etc.)? Or do you just leave it open?
I just leave it open at the tank but isolate locally at appliances inside the van
Very useful video. Same problem with my ducato. Must tackle it now thanks to this video.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get the light off? The clip things aren't moving at all and I really need to get the light off. There's loads of sand in there from the previous owner
That is a shambles...😂
100% agree with your three points. The Trigano Tribute 550 layout is almost perfect & it includes all the points you make. I’d also add swivels on the cab seats for comfy arm chairs & not just bench seating that is also the bed.
Hey there! I have a very annoying problem: I bought the Micro Heki and before installing it, I already mounted the inner frame with fly net (because I couldn't wait to see how it looks), which was really stupid because now I can't get it off. Is there a way to take it back out?
Needs details on the inverter used or a link to the video about the inverter.
Thank you for putting this video together it helped us removing our headliner in our Fiat Ducato. Great video 👍🏼
It will be interesting to see what you do with the roof if you plan to do a video since it looks like it will be different to the ply and batten sections ripped out from the previous thin profile version and you already have a thicker floor.
