The man who actually performed all the stunts you see here; the trick riding and Roman riding was a man by the name of Tad Griffith! He was unbelievable! I grew up in the rodeo business and I can remember him back in the 80’s! He had a dress act in rodeo, kind of like your halftime show at a football game! They would play a Marty Robbins gunfighter ballad and the spotlight would shine on Tad riding into the arena, acting out the scenes in the song, stage props, stunts and all! It was a major production on the road and I’ve never seen anything like it since!
Tad was *SO* dope. :) And you know what else?! Just the details he put into attempting to "match" Antonio's style with his reactions, smiles, intensity, etc. were PERFECT. That's something that some stunt guys might not care about or have the ability (or hours) to do. This kind of film is what happens when EVERYONE is a professional, everyone is dedicated, and no one is acting like a narcissistic, underqualified diva. Something that's less likely to happen today. :/
I don’t know if it was Antonio Banderas, or a stunt man during this whole chase scene, but all those moves he did, whether it was flipping backwards on the horse, standing up on two horses at once, etc., that takes an incredible amount of strength and balance. Kudos.
I want another Zorro film so badly but I also know that it can never top Mask Of Zorro. This film is just so perfect in every way to me. My definitive Zorro film
@@rs7458 Yeah in fact I do 🤷🏻♂️ It wont be “wOkE” if the correct people are working on it. Also how many other comments are you gonna comment “woke” on? Looks like you only watch woke films to consider everything “woke”
@@ΠαναγιωτηςΑγγελ that’s my wish too. And honestly I just grew up with Banderas’ version so Im quite biased towards him as my fav despite him not being Diego. I just want this character back on the silver screen with a very good adaptation. Almost in the style of There Will Be Blood.
It gets hilarious every time when they guy gets hurt by a tree by not watching out for it. When he slips down from the tree in pain, it’s always hilarious.
I've heard this rumor for years, but I don't think it's true. There are lots of phenomenal stunts in this movie, including the one you mentioned. Some of the stunts ARE him but stunt riders train for years, sometimes decades, and Antonio Banderas simply doesn't have the training and practice to accomplish most of the things here. It doesn't take away anything from his skill to know that they used stunt performers for a lot of it.
It’s such an epic sequence, I could also see Banderas playing a pretty amazing elseworlds Batman (which I suppose Batman is Elseworlds Zorro, but I digress)
The stunt work in this film was as legendary as the masked muchacho himself. :) And the entire cast and crew were absolutely phenomenal. Too bad they do not make films like this anymore. Heaven knows, if a super wealthy director wanted to do so, I definitely have some AAA-grade material. Yes, it's true (although it's not a Zorro film). 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨
Another reason this scene is so brilliantly done in addition to there being no dialogue, is the fact that the audience in the film at this point recognizes the last guy to get knocked out. He is a nameless recurring character face, yet there is enough build up at this point in the film that that once he is down, everyone starts cheering. Unlike, some of the muscle characters in the early Indiana Jones films, who show up for one scene , fight , and then go down.
Love those majestic horses! Thank you peta for not letting anymore animals die for a completion of a movie or show like they did in the 40s and 50s! I thank you!!❤
Nobody ever talks about his hat, lmao. He's wearing it until he falls down, during which it completely falls from his back. He hears the patrolmen coming and makes for the bushes, but never picks up his hat, which is why it is missing during the chase. Did he not have time to take it with him, did he just not care, or is it a movie mistake? I guess we can only wonder, haha.
Ah the 90s. When they made movies well, they made them REALLY well (Like this one). When they made them crap, they were really crap (like Batman and Robin). Not like the even-stevens, everything-is-sorta-okay-but-not-really 2010s.
I know people have critisms of the legend of zorro but they always compare it to this by saying this movie was a lot darker and serious while ignoring how silly it was a lot of the time too. Not that that’s bad
I always wondered what happen to his hat. I am sure he still had when he got knocked out by the tree but then during the whole chase is mysteriously vanishes.
The military uniforms of the Mexican 🇲🇽 army in the 19th century were modeled after the Grande Armee. After the Napoleonic campaigns, French military fashion became very popular throughout Europe and America, being adopted by President Antonio López de Santa Anna.
One thing I'm curious about is why is the lead soldier breathing hard and none of the other soldiers are. I mean is riding a horse fast a workout or something
At 1:16 you can see that there is some piece of black cloth waving in the wind. With the trees blocking most of their sight, it looks like Zorro's cape.
to this day im still wondering why he needed to be backwards on the horse to make that punch? just seems unnecessary when you go and watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...Indy did all his punches and didn't need to sit backwards in order to do it,
One of the best chase sequences in world cinema history...

Thank you for all the kind words , Tad Griffith

Tad Griffith. In his prime he was considered the greatest trick rider in the world.
I remember reading that Antonio did all of the horse stunts except the one at 1:25
Zorro is hilariously OP, like Batman.
@@theguybehindyou4762 That's cause Zorro is the inspiration for most superheroes, especially Batman or The Lone Ranger.

No, you don’t because it would be WOKE. The legend of Zorro was already bad.
A movie about Zorro's origins is what we need,i mean i like Alejandro but Diego De la Vega will always be Zorro.

Good laughs and enjoyment. They don’t make movies like these no more.
Stunt work is great here.
1:41 The only stunt Antonio Banderas was not allowed to perform in the entire film.
wait, they allowed him to do the tree jumping with the horses? Or was that CGI?

Antonio banderas would’ve been a great ezio lol In the 90s
"we need a spooky flute every five seconds"
"But ..."
"Run it"
It cuts to Zorro playing said flute.
1 of the few "remake" movies I actually enjoy
Feels more like a soft reboot with the original Zorro aging out and passing the torch.

It's kind of the more swashbuckling version of the truck chase from Raiders of the Lost Ark and I'm all for it.
Agreed. Also reminds me of the chase scene in Willow. Also scored by James Horner.
At least here they have an excuse for not just filling him with lead.
Props to the stunt man who jumped from two galloping horses over a tree branch and landed smoothly on the horses on the other side.
Thank you
Tad

The original gritty reboot. And Zorro didn't need to take off his mask every 5 minutes.
One of the few reboots done right. 2012 Dredd is another good one.
The drunk horse part always makes me laugh lol
Imagine Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade playing in this scene!
