    "My Head Is an Animal" is seriously one of the greatest albums ever released! It takes you to a completely different world full of adventure, love, sadness, happiness, and everything that falls in between. There is something truly special about this band.

While I may no longer be a die-hard OMAM fan like when I was thirteen, OMAM will always be home to me and they will always hold a special place in my heart. Sloom will always be one of the warmest hugs I can ever get.

      I understand that this song is about a divorce, the son is writting his parents for love for him and his brothers, at the end the man who smiled him in the street was his father, the last relationship keep his feet on the earth.

      @patt5085 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think its a girl and her stalker with backward lyrics.
      -She met a man today, had this weird feeling and wanted to run with her feet
      -Cats silhouette and shadows following her in the night street
      -A book full of her story, a dream of his and her nightmare
      -Making demand while he meets her the first and very last time
      -Begging for her life and the mercy to her father, mother and brother
      -Seaweed wrapping her feet, saying goodbye to the sea and her life as nobody notices.

      As a man who lost a woman that he was going to propose to, I can honestly get this. I was engaged to an ex who turned out to be totally toxic af a while after losing her and as a result, am not looking.
      But here's to hoping. That maybe a woman with good intentions will be interested in me and that I will meet her at some point. Whether it's tomorrow, next week or next year, as long as she treats me right,.we're good.

  • @jaredwigent2561

    I like to think about the relationship between this song and their biggest hit, "Little Talks". In that song, you get a character feeling hesitant, uncertain, defeated, and anxious. A second voice shows the first voice the safety, control, and comforts it has always had access to in itself. Realizing this, the first voice apologizes for lashing out and losing trust or hope with "Don't listen to a word I say, these screams all sound the same" as if to say "sometimes I'm blind to the love I have and I act like everything is awful even though it isn't".
    Now with "Sloom", which can literally mean a kind of daydream, I think we as the audience are getting a closer look at just how that character's dark imagination can make them see the world as dark and full of monsters even when reality might be quite different. The last lines of the song reveal that the character saw a man she'd never met. His intense smile sparked the thoughts she's been having through the whole song about how he might murder her and she wishes she could tell her family she loves them.
    The album is called My Head is an Animal, and the band is called Of Monsters and Men. Their latest album is called Beneath the Skin. I think the most important thing to take from their songs is that if people are really just minds controlling bodies, then fantasy and reality- monster and man- are all the same thing. Our minds are the real us, the real animal, and the things we experience only in our mind are just as real as anything else. And we have to be conscious of how other minds perceive us, or we could cause them terror unintentionally.

      that sentence doesn't make sense, my friend. Something cannot sound aesthetic. It can be aesthetically pleasing. You could like its aesthetic. You could hate it. But I have no idea what you like (or dislike) about this song.

    • @aidanflynn9581
      @aidanflynn9581 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While aesthetic probably is not the best word choice, Ruby might be trying to simply state that the song is very visual, or effectively paints a picture.

    • @hobogoat2
      @hobogoat2 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That still doesn't make sense in this context, though. I'm not sure how you could use "aesthetic" in that way and have it make sense aside from saying, "I like this song's aesthetic."

    Probably in the minority on this one, but this is actually my favorite of their songs. Something about the guitar, and how they sing it, gives an incredibly soothing, and, for lack of a better term, beautiful feeling. For best effect, play it near or in a forest far away from any other houses, and walk along the trail or just lie down near Lake-Pond and look at the stars.

      3 years late, I know, but I think it might be your subconscious listening to the lyrics and getting the point* or sewing together a story with it? I don't know, just a guess.
      * The reason I say ' getting the point ' is because I look at all the comments that talk about the meanings they see in the lyrics and I'm just like, oh, it makes more sense now! But yeah I hope this might have been helpful.

    How am I just discovering this song? This is so beautiful and it's been out for 4 years, just about as long as all the other songs from them I like...

    i feel like a lot of the songs from this album are about being abused, especially this song. it tells the story of two kids being abused by their parents, the kids realizing they deserve better, and when theyre strong enough, looking their parents in the eye and forsaking them and all the lies they told them. the brother and sister only ever wanted their parents to love them, and the strangers smile reminds them the world isnt all evil and cruel. they can carry on. i relate to this album a lot due to those trauma feels

    Whenever I listen to this song, I see a person who's struggling with a balance for fantasy and reality. Like they want to be happy, and they are happy in fantasy, but then reality comes and slaps them in the face. And then they try and cover the reality up and pretend it's not there, but they know they can't, and then they want everyone to love them for it and to be happy with life. But, in the end, I think that this person found their happiness because it talks about how a guy smiled at them and that that was such a great thought. So... maybe this was the balance of reality and fantasy they were looking for.
    I also love this lyric video because it has a mystical, folktale-ish, almost Americana feel to it. There are monsters in the lake and it has a fantasy-ish feel; I perceived this as the balance... and then the end about the balance too. So fantasy and reality come together and there's about 1/4 of fantasy, and 3/4 of reality. We really need both to overcome life and be happy. :) I've always loved a mini-series called Over the Garden Wall, and this song and lyric video really reminds me of it. Anyone else who watches it should really understand this song better. :)

      Over the Winter Wall I don't think that's the meaning at all. In fact, try reading the lyrics starting from the end all the way to the beginning. It becomes a story about a woman being murdered by her stalker.

    • @quintvictrum4163
      @quintvictrum4163 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Over the Winter Wall that actually makes sense (though i thought it was about a couple and their seperate families who see that this relationship is sort of just a strong but short flare of one until they eventually seperate and fondly remember each other) considering that "Sloom" means light dream

    • @shilohgrace7875
      @shilohgrace7875 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I mean everyone has their own take on it. :) I just thought it would be a person who's struggling with fantasy and reality. You know, like fantasy is dragging them down from their reality, and into a bad nightmare-dreamland, that feels good to them at first, but when reality comes it really turns bad. :/ Especially when they started talking about the books and whatnot, and the metaphor with the carpet and forest.

    I found this band when I was in the 6th grade and fell in love. That was two years ago and I haven't listened to them in forever and I forgot how great they were. This was my favorite song on My Head is An Animal and it still is. It is like visiting an old friend

      Well I can't remember when I first heard this band ( I might of been in year/grade 6) and it was one of the few reasons that prevented me from taking my life. They are truly one of the best bands. Even better than most 80's and 90's bands.

      Would make sense because it's a thing that Nanna experienced: Her parents divorced, she stayed in Iceland with her mother and her brother left to Canada with their father.
      She wrote King and Lionheart to "vent" about it.

    This song has a different feel to it if you just broke up with a toxic ex vs being in a healthy relationship.
    And because of that, I thank Of Monsters And Men for a masterpiece!
    I've experienced both while jamming out to this song and am happy in my relationship. As in in less than 5 years, if things are still going good, she's going to be my wife. What helps is the fact we worked at the same job 3 years before and she was there a full year. I was grieving the death of a long term gf and she found her ex around that time. A few years down the road, after I broke up with an abusive ex and a while after my gf and her ex broke up, we run into each other by chance. Long story short is that sometimes God has creative rewrites to the prime objective. And who are we to judge him?
    Many do, but honestly I'm glad he did because we're both high functioning autistic people who love cooking. In fact, she matches me in intelligence as well as culinary prowess. This is the first time I've been with someone who I considered my absolute equal and didn't start off seeing it as a business contract.
    Edit - definitely gonna be her husband a lot sooner than 5 years.

    Today is the first time I cried listening to this. When I was writing I wrote a sentence that was "I will always be with you, even if I'm not here when you wake up. I'll still be with you." That sentence in the context and what had happened to me just made me think of this in another way. My aunt and two of my cats died before I woke up, and I didn't get the chance to tell them I loved them.

      Criticism is necessary. You can't just say "If you don't like it don't listen to/watch it" because we want things that are good and we want things that we like. By showing our approval of things we like and disapproval of things we like content creators know what to produce. They might even use it as constructive criticism to get better. As much as artists express themselves through song, criticism is our way of expressing ourselves; there's no point in hiding from the negativity when it so blatantly exists and it can spur you to improve.
