Rich is such an inspiration! I love how he just keeps going, only ever stopping when he's finished the event or the event is, literally, about to finish him! Having done a few, much tamer, marathon 100km+ rides I can so identify with those trudging-up-that-last-hill moments! Well done, Rich! PS - awesome to see Blake there to support our hero - GMBN bromances are the stuff of legend.
We’ve all been heard to say “this is absolutely stupid” only to find ourselves doing it all over again. Strangely your “stupid” struggle has me kitting up to ride on an “absolutely stupidl” rainy day. Thanks for the stoke!
Awesome! This was an incredible performance! Oh... and yes, of course, I want more endurance-based races on the GMBN! That's the type of MTB discipline I'm most interested in.
I remember taking up cycling after about a ten year hiatus when I was in my mid-thirties. I already was noting something of an age factor. Now that I'm in my 70's, I know, indeed, that was the beginning of the decline. Held on pretty well through my 50's, but the steep downhills in fitness started in my 60's. Enjoy your 40's and 50's while you can. Not as easy as when you were 20-something, but you can still reach a decent level of fitness with steady work.
This IS why i love GMBN! Seeing Ex-Pros going to the extreme and put themself to the test, once again. Proving again, that they ARE Pros. Pure Inspiration.
Crazy!! Just amazing what you guys do on this channel, a quality production again. Rich, you're a legend for taking on this challenge and hoping you get some decent down time to chill out afterwards. Keep up the great work guys 👏👏
So good to watch. 100kmers are a suffer fest. I did one a couple years ago. Heat went up over 30⁰ and i realised at one stage i was riding at walking pace. Had to pull over and manage the heat exhaustion symptoms for the rest of the race, but it's still fond memories despite the pain!
Rich is the man! Wow, 151 bpm...almost enough to land you in a hospital like to 24 in the O'l Pueblo :0. Great job sticking with it and letting us live out the dream vicariously through your riding!!!
I do recommend trying the Grand Raid in Valais. It basically is around the same place as the GCN Tour Des Stations rides are, but you just stay up the mountain. It's also a stage of the Marathon World Cup 125km, 5000m+ of climbing between Verbier and Grimentz
Wow !!! What an achievement !! I was just on top of Lac Vert when the race was on and it looked insane from there but when I see the video, it’s just unbelievable 😮😳 All respect 🫡 Rich you’re very impressive and inspiring 🙏
Awesome Job,! "You're not as fit as you'd like to be, You've on a real good bike, You've got it all setup, Everything's dialled, Just do your thing" Please consider putting this on a shirt or a Top Tube Sticker. Those are words to live by as we age.
Rich awesome effort dude that looked brutal. True inspiration for riders that like XC type riding 🤘 I felt and was just like what you were when i rode the South Downs Way in one day in August. Tough sections amd also pushing my bike up the last hills 😬 Awesome stuff #GMBN
Man you made me want to get an XC bike now!! It'd be good if you could do a series on graded trails for XC(Marathon)/Enduro/DH beginner, intermediate and advanced as the disparity in grading (in the UK at least) is crazy. A blue at Antur Stiniog is like a black at Llandegla.
I once went way beyond my distance, was aching and exhausted and still 15km away from trail head. I took a rest and fell asleep 😮, woke up to realise I had 50mins before the car park automatic lock in 😮😮. I was out of water food and energy, honestly felt I was dying, so got going and remembered where I'd seen some blackberries, pedalled to there and found them, cleaned out a whole hedge row 😂 and rode like the bejaysiz back to the trailhead. Made it with 10 mins to spare. Then an hour drive home, I was never so tired. A deep deep drain of energy, you can only know it if you've pushed beyond your limit (20 times in a row)
This vid reminded me of me when i came back to race xcm after ten years racing motos man they were hard when your not fitt enough i feel you. They dont get any easier even when you finish them in sub 4 hours with an average hr of get this 178 and i,m in my fifties go easy on the old man jokes ha ha . 😁👍✌💪
having competed in Marathon, but in a different sport, I can say that looking back I hated every second. I was the finishing I liked, the bit when the suffering stopped.
Horrible. To know it's all about the climbs, not about the technical stuff, speed or all the fun parts of the sport XD. It's like you get to go to a theme park but you only get to clean garbage cans

"So it's time for another classic GMBN "Let's try and KILL RICH Challenge"... 😄. Best opening since that bank heist in "The Dark Knight"!
Rich well done mate yet again, your the master at getting these epic rides done.Much respect.Take a well earned rest.
Rich, you are amazing! And the whole GMBN crew (from camera crew to support crew) are so great!!! Thanks for another inspirational video!
Rich awesome video chap 💪 🔥 The tone of this was completely authentic, and insightful. Brilliant, loved it, 🙏 ❤️
Awesome! This was an incredible performance! Oh... and yes, of course, I want more endurance-based races on the GMBN! That's the type of MTB discipline I'm most interested in.
That looked brutal,Brilliant achievement Rich you sure did an awesome job dude 👍👍👍
Come and do Berg & Bush in South Africa, 3 days of +- 60km each in one of the most beautiful places you could ride.
Great video and good to see something that isn't Enduro for a change. It would be great to see Rich take on some stage races such as BC Bike Race.

Well done Rich. You are amazing. I think your XC content is my favourite on this channel.
i really enjoy this format of gmbn
I felt your pain and joy of accomplishment 🎉 Awesome achievement 👍
I just finished a mtb marathon in Wales and can really relate to the struggle. Good work Rich
Geez rich that looks hectic! Such nice scenery for such a gruelling race.
RACE SOME MORE!!!! 😎👍💯 Congratulations Rich! 👏👏👏
This IS why i love GMBN! Seeing Ex-Pros going to the extreme and put themself to the test, once again. Proving again, that they ARE Pros. Pure Inspiration.

I would not have finished it so big cheers to you for just getting through
Another wonderfully inspirational video.
Congratulations! Great ride, great team work, great filming, great story telling!! Cheerio!!

These events are where you really find yourself mentally as much as physically.
Wow !!! What an achievement !!

All respect 🫡 Rich you’re very impressive and inspiring 🙏
Congratulations on finishing and thanks for keeping us other salty old dogs motivated.
amazing inner strength to complete such a race!
Incredible Rich, hope that scratched your itch for a while.
Props Rich! You never find me anywhere near one of those marathon races!!
Rich did so well, was good to see Blake there for a second to give him a push along
That looked savage Rich! Well done!
Awesome Job,!

Rich you are a legend. Brilliant video, awesome challenge. Well done. What have you got for us next ????
Awesome effort. I live in Morzine and know how brutal the climbs are there
Phenomenal effort Rich, huge respect 👊
You are a hero!
That was awesome! God bless you Rich❤🎉

Good Stuff!! Welldone Rich!! I will go training tomorrow 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Really good video, you should do some more like this 🎉
Well in Rich, that's a brutal experience but one you'll remember

Makes me want to go do some xcm event straight away 😄🚴💥 Amazing content!🎉
That was a class finish.
Awesome video as usual
Congrats!
If this doesn't deserve a Like, i don't know what would! 👏
Fantastic ! Well done ! 👍
Hope you have seen the GCN about carbs during riding, where you have to eat around 100-120 g/h to fuel correctly?
Good work. x
Another episode of “Let’s Kill Rich”, lol! I like your approach to the race, “milestones”.
C’mon Rich come for the Transvesubienne north of Nice next time. Better ratio of descending to climbing for you :)
nice work
Thanks 😊
Hey man, DFL (dead freakin' last) is still more epic than DFS (didn't freakin' start). Well done dude!
This vid reminded me of me when i came back to race xcm after ten years racing motos man they were hard when your not fitt enough i feel you. Well done Rich… I felt your pain! Have you tried the Sellaronda Hero…? Agony but beautiful! 86k/4500m😅
Well done mate. You are mentally strong but you’re clearly working so much you can’t put the training hours in. Nothing to do with your age buddy 😁👍🏼
Nice Finish Rich!
Any insight on what shades you are wearing on the non riding interview portions (tortoise Smith somethings?)....
Thnx! 😎
Bravo! Impressive achievement!
What was the bike of choice for this race? And why not the superlightweight Orbea Oiz?
having competed in Marathon, but in a different sport, I can say that looking back I hated every second.
I was the finishing I liked, the bit when the suffering stopped.
I'd love to know why you picked this specific race?? Seems brutal!
More xc content!!!
I am thinking if a 47mm 700c chunky tyre Gravel bike good enough for this kind of terrain?
Seeing rich ride this xcm made me think about my friend. My friend rides with a 38t chainring for every game... How??
I’d like to see you get some slippers on, grab a bucket of ice cream and zone out in front of the telly.
Well done Rich drag Blake along next time 😂
Looks like it would quicker to push up some of the steep hills😬
WOW 😮😮.
👊👊👊👊👊
Why in the heck do the English say milestone instead of kilometer stone?
What frame was he using?
Mondraker
It was a Mondraker F-Podium DC size large. Full kit and bike check out tomorrow 👊
@@richardpayne5176 awesome cheers dude, great effort 👌
Well done. What bike is that you were riding?
What bike is that?
You can find a full bike and kit check here! th-cam.com/video/Zf3Q3CGQu0A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=boFgYc6MJwLuU5Wv
100km at 8hrs moving time. He aint road biking, friends.
Si Richardson couldn't do this - look at those cows!
No Rich, Arizona actually nearly killed you.
First!
😂
