Dimple cups are only used for dye; rock nuts come from quarry bushes; sweet pods produce syrup. All these products (plus wheat) require a separate process before cooking or other production, so growing them early is fairly pointless unless their whole production chain is set up Unless it's changed, setting up multiple archery targets to be /reliably/ used for training is prolly the most complex part of the game :( Likewise giving a ranger (ie animal hunter) a military position results in them dropping their current wep (xbow) & running back to equip a different xbow for their military gearset etc whenever recruited/demobbed, so choose 1 or the other tasks to be allowed for that dwarf, not both! Ideally your military should have set patrol routes outside, so a) they don't get agoraphobia & start throwing up when outdoors, & b) you can set them alternate months for patrol/train/off duty, giving them time to recover and/or do other jobs IMO sherriff (from 'shire reeve', aka police) & hammerdwarf are the last 2 nobles needing appointment: they're only really neccessary in huge forts with lotsa unhappiness Your hospital desperately needs a well, perhaps even before soap! Also the mechanics for setting up a well from your underground water (eg your below-surface nearby river) is pretty easy, if a little complex to accomplish without unnecessary deaths, making it a good tutorial topic ;) Set up a gem cutter's shop ASAP for easy cash & mood ingredients: you've a bunch of mined raw gems sitting around doing nothing ATM..
I tried and gave up so many times at this game. This guide series finally got me going. Now I have a fort of 85 and no deaths so far. (No enemies either tho)
I hope they include templates of rooms with their settings and furniture placed for the steam release. So we could choose templates we named to put automatic work orders in which then would automaticly installed in a designated carved out area. Also soundsense and the Dwarven therapist should be included in the steam version or hopefully at least also released then as a mod for the steam version.
Is there a reason that you make zones that contain the walls? Sometimes they overlap other zones, and I wonder what effect this has. Does it make the game think that the zone is larger than it actually is, even though some of it is inaccessible?
Hey Nook, really enjoying the tutorial series, after trying to learn the game 5 other times I think your video is helping me get to grips with things, one question though, why would you set up a tavern to have people come to your fort? Do you get anything out of it such as money or anything?
Nook is their anyway we could see this continue? You keep saying your Dwarfs are more than likely dead as a first day player. I'd like to see that maybe from a common mistake or just being over run or other common mistakes lack of water ect. Ive invested, what, like almost 4 hrs into viewing this run I'd rather not see it end with oblivion on a sunny day where there is obviously an opportunity to a Dwarf to grow.. Can we see a finish?
This tutorial helped sooo much, you have no idea

So how did it end up crashing down?

20:13 on 0.5x speed = drunk elf-hatred
the ELF IS A SPY! i mean makes sense to me, i mean you're at war with the elves, what reason does the elf have for being there if not for spying!?
Best tutorial/let's play ever. Vanilla is also a great deal
That elf was all bark and no bite
can you skin the elf and use his skin to craft a helm and then equip that?
Yes

I love this BGM from Kerbal Space Program
EP 1 had some from Scrap Mechanic too!
The music at 40:20... why do I recognize that? What on earth is it from?
Nookrium you are awesome!
Yeah do more worldbox vids PLEASE
So the elves don't like it when you make items out of wood, yet it's okay for them to wear wooden gauntlets. Bunch of hypocrites.
The wood they have is grown into shape. Its more ethical (their words, not mine).

You have a real problem with He and She.
