I hate when people say they "invested" money in their car. More accurate thing to say is spent. "I spent 60,000 on my jeep". Cuz that's what it is, investments have a cash flow, they increase the value of the input. Cars are depreciating assets.
Unless you buy a classic car, those could be investments. Atleast where i'm from (Belgium) old cars, not just cars that are 30 years old and and they made a million of, but cars that are 50 years or so old, like old Ferrari's or Maserati's gain value over time. But i agree that the Jeep one was a total waste of time and money.

the only way you can make a normal mustang a Shelby, is if you take to Shelby and have them put a package on your car. The Shelby factory here in Las Vegas does it and its sick, its $20k-$50k depending on the package.

Just saw Between the Buried and Me for the 10th time last night here in Charlotte North Carolina. Those guys are insanely good.
The only somewhat acceptable form of upbadging is for the newer LT1 Camaros. They have an optional RS package which is just a visual package. I took that badge off mine because people kept thinking it was a v6 but had to fill the blank space on the grill with something so I used the SS badge that came with my rear lip spoiler. Same exact car other than interior, front grill, wheels and some track cooling. Ill probably throw the RS badge back on when I install my supercharger just for the lols

I had a totaled cobra and bought a v6 roller and swapped everything from the steering box to the k member all the way to the rear end including but not exclusively the badges

When I was younger (around 7 or so) dad bought a VL Calais (Holden) and swapped in a 383 stroker he built the motor and was making NA 550hp at the dyno, not sure what tires he had on it but it would break traction in almost every gear. I really wish he kept it but the cops would always pull him over for no reason and he got sick of it. He says it’s one of his biggest regrets.

for the up badging crisis, i feel the only scenario that would make sense is if you installed ALL of the components as the up badged model. Then again, if it’s not the exact same, you don’t deserve the upbadge
Speaking about upbadging: i think if you engine swap a car that had no sports version, with an engine from a different car within the same brand that did come with a sports version, you now have the right to transfer those sports badges as well.

to answer your question about up-badging, the 1988-91 Honda preludes had 3 trim levels, a base, an si and a 4ws (4-Wheel-Steering) si. the only difference between the si and the 4ws si is the 4ws system and the badges, so if I swap the 4ws system into a regular si, could I up-badge it to a 4ws si?

So.. Upbadging. Not sure if this counts, but, I did have a w211 e200 and to avoid import charges and registration to Irish plates, I bought a w211 e55 amg from the UK, I dismantled it and shipped it back to Ireland as car parts.
I then put everything, from the engine to the window switches into the e200 and notified the tax office of its new engine, and it was described as a 5.5 supercharged v8 if you were to look up the registration.
It was technically not an e55 amg, but it ended up being one in the end. Not sure if I have made any sense here..

to answer your question about the upbadging and this is a very small amount of people probably less the 1% of people that do this and actually follow threw there was a person I met that upbadged there car for the reason of one day getting that model as a reminder I asked why not just get the poster or wall paper on his computer he said he wanted the badge as motivation he eventually followed threw and got the car (v6 2009 camaro he wanted a 5th gen zl1) he got the car used in 2012 saved up and got the zl1 in 2016. so that I would say is a legit reason to get one even though he could have gone a different route.
